Look outside! It's cold and dreary and depressing and it will be forever. Here at Pinglewood we plan to combat the gloom with music that is warm and analeptic, tinged with melancholy, but ultimately uplifting. So thanks Paul Epworth for making the return of Jack Penate such an unexpected pleasure. Epworth may have hung up his Phones, but here he creates a fine fusion of classic house and highlife to swaddle Penate's classy pop songwriting.

Jack Peñate 'Second Minute Or Hour'
I run the risk of dating myself, my better half specifically, when I report that upon hearing "Second, Minute Or Hour" she promptly compared Peñate to The Housemartins. An apt comparison. It's the frantic, breathless delivery, the quick, jangly guitars, they heavy accent, and the playful lyrics, although Peñate lacks the acerbic subtext of many Housemartins' songs, a fact Peñate is more than comfortable with.
