Link: http://www.whitestripes.com/ Link: http://www.billboard.com/news/ white-stripes-protests-air-for ce-super-bowl-1004066018.story Popular mainstream rock band sometimes marketed as indie the White Stripes had a 'shitty version' of their song "Fell in Love With A Girl" ripped off and utilized in a Super Bowl commercial by the Air Force, a popular branch of the US military which uses jets to bomb Arab and terrorist hideouts. The White Stripes were not given 'mad bank' for the usage of their song [via commercial licensing]. It seems like they also got [...]
So did you catch that ridiculous-looking Air Force Reserve TV ad on Super Bowl Sunday, or were you getting more chips from the pantry? (Don't lie, we know you love chips. Check it out here .) Well, if you didn't, here's a quick summary: there's a bunch of guys doing a bunch of EXTREME STUFF to the White Stripes' "Fell In Love With a Girl" - or, rather, a really shitty instrumental cover. How "bad" is it? Let's put it this way: imagine one of those "Shredding" videos on YouTube, only if they were totally not a joke at [...]
"We believe our song was re-recorded and used without permission of the White Stripes, our publishers, label or management...The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserve's presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support." — Jack White explains why , despite his permission, you might have heard a snippet of The White Stripes song "Fell in Love with a Girl" (or something that sounded really similar to it) on a Super Bowl commercial for [...]

Filed under: News The White Stripes are not happy with Uncle Sam this week. The object of their displeasure? An ad campaign for the United States' Air Force Reserve that launched during Sunday's Super Bowl broadcast. The 30-second advertisement uses what sounds like an instrumental re-recording of the White Stripes' famous hit, "Fell in Love With a Girl," set against video footage of extreme sports. "The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserve presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of [...]

On that note, White recently told Australian radio station Triple J that his current project, Dead Weather , already have their second album just about in the can. The release is on the fast track to hit retailers in April, just eight months after Dead Weather dropped [...]

That's not the confirmed name of the album, but it is the confirmed name of the lead single from the new Dead Weather album (So it'll do for now). In a radio interview with Australia's Triple J, Jack White announced that the new album is due out in April, and that the lead single 'Blue Blood Blues' will have White himself on lead vocals instead of Alison Mosshart.

In an earlier post I introduced a series based on exposing and exploring the incestuous relationships between movies and music. As noted, musicians have often made cameo appearances in movies, musical or otherwise. One of my personal favorites is (of course) Jack White's rendition of a kung-fu savvy "King of Rock 'n' Roll" in the 2007 comedy, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. A relentlessly hysterical spoof of pretty much any music bio-pic one could think of. Watch WALK HARD clip "The King" en [...]

But the White Stripes haven't forgotten about the US, as the duo will premiere the film at this year's SXSW . Although no [...]
...and I go gaga, of course. As I wipe the drool off of my candy-striped tshirt, I offer up the preview, from whitestripes.com. The package is now available for preorder, and is shipping for March 16th. The White Stripes will also be showing off their documentary, "Under Great White Northern Lights" at this year's SXSW Festival down in Austin, Texas. The below article is taken from The Austin Chronicle: "SXSW started as a music fest first, so it's kind of a no-brainer that SXSW Film would make room for movies about music. [...]
Your beauty is beyond compare, with flaming locks of auburn hair. I cannot compete with you, Jolene. Here's some proof positive why I need the White Stripes to hit the road in 2010. their last concert DVD, Under Blackpool Lights is one of the key components to my live music collection. I can't wait for the release of their new DVD project, Under Great Northern Lights , filmed on tour in 2007.
