Yep, it is that time again. We've trawled back through all our e-mails, favourite blogs, and new music discoveries to bring you up to date with all that's been good on the MM stereo recently. Because of the time of year it includes a few we missed from way back before Christmas, but which still more than deserve some ear-time - you may have missed them too. Rummage around. Dig in. This is only Part 1 - more coming tomorrow... The first offering is from Western Medication's 73 EP (released Jan 29th) is a [...]
In a comment yesterday J.A. compared LA quartet Princeton to Jens Lekman . As always I think you should listen and judge for yourself, but he's not completely wrong...is he?
Check the new video from Danish singer/songwriter Jacob Faurholt for the track Creatures in the Sea ; the first single from his forthcoming album Dark Hours (out mid-August). Laid-back, beautiful, atmospheric etc., or basically everything you expect and hope for when "dealing" with this genre. The track features Sóley of Seabear on vocals and piano. The song is free to download via bandcamp in exchange [...]

♫ Crystal Shipsss - Song 1 Crystal Shipsss is a newish home recording project by Jacob Faurholt from Denmark that he started with in August and is still going on at the moment. I didn’t know any of Faurholt’s work, but he’s been releasing music since 2005 and apparently supported CocoRosie, Grizzly Bear and Efterklang on some shows and that’s a nice thing to have on your resumé. After listening to some of his tunes on bandcamp, I have to say that Crystal Shipsss is [...]

Another 10 days since the last post, and another little boost for the blog... and with another holiday coming up this Friday, things won't change for the next two weeks (but at least I have a different excuse now! ). So here goes: Happy Birthday, CIC ! Here's a pretty special song by singer/songwriter Fielded : Another Day (MP3) Don't really know if [...]

Á morgun mun danskur frændi vor, Jacob Faurholt , gefa út sína þriðju plötu og nefnist hún Are You In The Mood For Love? [...]

Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter JM Airis has sent me a quite cool song called Numbers Man . Recorded on an analog tape machine in an old textile factory, it perfectly transports that raw feeling you could expect from these surroundings. Definitely worth listening to! JM Airis - Numbers Man (MP3) Indie-Label Friendly Fire has put together a free sampler of their current [...]

Why Write? Genre: Indie From: Denmark Why Write? is Danish songwriter Jacob Faurholt's new project. His new record as Why Write?, the informatively titled '5 song EP' and released via Canadian based label What A Mess! Records has garnered some good reviews. Although I have to take Jacob's word for that as they're all in Danish! This may well be the first review in English so I better make it a good 'un. [...]

Photo Credit Þórdís Magnea Jónsdóttir "Why Write? is Danish songwriter Jacob Faurholt's new project, the EP is recorded in the summer of 2009 with good friends in Denmark and mixed & mastered by the American producer Kramer (Galaxie 500, Daniel Johnston, Low, Half Japanese). The EP was released by the Canadian based label What A Mess! Records Nov. 18th 2009. Faurholt has also released 3 albums in his own name, the last one called `Are You In The Mood For Love?` in February" 2009. [...]
Blog favorites Entakt are giving away the track Orkestret med det blotlagte skelet , which didn’t make the final cut for the album På Bagsiden Af Europa . Not because it’s bad, which it certainly isn't, but simply because it didn’t fit in. A quite Tom Waits inspired tune sounding nothing like anything we've previous heard from the band. + Orkestret med det blotlagte skelet Youngsters Avisitor will soon be [...]

It’s weekend and I’m so much looking forward to one of those rare ones with no drinking and no hangovers to survive. What I’m not looking forward to at all, is that the wife and the commander in chief (my oldest daughter in case you were wondering) most likely will insist on watching the finals of the awful TV-show Talent 2008 . So I might just end up drinking after all…you just never know! Judging from the two promo tracks available, the sophomore album Holiday by Alaska In [...]
