Ever since David Bowie ripped off La fille du père Noël for his Jean Genie , Britrockers have a thing for Jacques Dutronc. Miles Kane (singers of The Rascals, one half of The Last Shadow Puppets) confessed his love for Gainsbourg earlier , and now honours Dutronc by covering Le Responsable - in English. But still. It's on his just-released Come Closer EP and I think it's a very good version. Close to the original yes, but energetic and fun. See a good live-version here. Jacques Dutronc - Le [...]
Another gem from New Year's Eve 1966: Jacques Dutronc - "Les Cactus" on "Reveillon sur Les Deux Chaines". Introduced by Emperor Rosko. It can be found on The Bedazzled Video Hour (and a half) 2011 - "French Pop Rarities 1966-1967" . See it live at the WFMU Record Fair - Saturday, October 29
Sorry for the poor quality. Get it, Jacques Dutronc, L'augmentation! http://feeds.feedburner.com/Lo adedToTheGills
The son of Françoise Hardy and Jacques Dutronc released a very good new single today, Demain. It's the first track from the upcoming new album (out in October), the follow up to the highly succesful Comme un manouche sans guitare. The Django-vibe's still there, but he makes it completely his own. Thomas Dutronc - Demain

Christmas 2010 did already pass, I know, Christmas A Go Go already shut its door for this year, but luckily there's always room for some Serge Gainsbourg paraphernalia here at FS. In 1965 a television show started at ORTF in France called Dim Dam Dom , which stood for Dimanche, Dames and D(h)ommes. The show ran for six years until 1970 and intended to be informative and humoristic with musical intermezzi. It was presented by girls like Françoise Hardy, Mireille Darc, Nathalie Delon, France Gall, Marie Laforêt and Sheila. In 1966 Dim Dam Dom [...]

Though Sarah Nixey is British, she's a fille to boot, levitating effortlessly between the realms of innocence and lasciviousness, the subversive and the sublime. With Black Box Recorder – assisted by Luke Haines of Auteurs fame and John Moore, ex-Jesus & Marychain –, she recorded three of the smartest, though too much neglected pop CDs of the last decade. French Rock'n'Roll from Recorder's brilliant second record Facts of Life echoes the spirit of Jane & Serge, London-style, and features even a few lines in French: Black Box Recorder – French Rock'n'Roll Solo, [...]

La fille du père Noël (Santa's daughter) isn't exactly an atmospherical Christmas song, it struts to a beat very similar to that of David Bowie's The Jean Genie - though Bowie stole it from Jacques Dutronc . Now 67, Dutronc still rocks and rolls effortless. Listen to the original version from 1966, and the just released live-version. Dutronc also mentions Pere Fouettard. Read about this odd fellow here . Welcome to a brand new, ongoing L'Amour Electronique blog theme: "L'Amour à la Chaîne". The idea is to gradually build up a chain of songs, with each song connected in some way to the previous link in the chain. The links may be clever, stupid, convoluted, tenuous, based on fact or fiction - just as long as there is some kind of relationship from one song to the next... The opening link in the chain is, of course, the eponymous L'Amour à la Chaîne by Jacques Dutronc. [...]
May 8, 1945: Victory in Europe. Millions flooded the streets to celebrate the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany and the formal end of World War II in the European Theater. In the northern Algerian market town of Setif, a victory parade of 5,000 Algerian Muslims ended in clashes between the marchers and the local French [...]

How is it possible that we're nearly 7 months in without a mention of French 60s beat, let alone without a mention of Jacques Dutronc? This is an absolutely KILLER tune, with a hefty dose of fuzz in the vein of cult late-60s Dutronc favourites like "Je Suis Content" and "Le Responsable". Jacques is possibly the coolest specimen of the French 60s fraternity after Serge Gainsbourg, though if we're going to compare, Jacques is more pretty than perv. Interesting factoid, he's married to Françoise Hardy and they have a son, Thomas, who is also a singer and lookswise [...]

We're still a few days from it actually being Summer but that is good, as we've got a whole season to look forward to: the oppressive heat and humidity, the crushing disappoinment of everything Hollywood has to offer except for Inception, and gallons and gallons more oil into the Gulf. Good times! On the plus side, this week's cover was done by famed street artist King of the Streets, who is probably the hottest name this side of Mr. Brainwash. As you may remember he's also a staunch environmentalist, so all graffiti takes place via MS Paint. You can [...]
