Mutig, mutig von mir gleich mit den krachigen Sleigh Bells zu beginnen, das mit dem melancholischen Perfume Genius zu konterkarieren und mit Jaill - der postiven Überraschung - abzuschließen. Jetzt aber meine Frage an euch: Was fehlt? Was waren eure musikalischen Höhepunkte 2010? Sleigh Bells / Crown on the ground Perfume genius / Mr. Peterson Deastro / Biophelia Best Coast / Crazy for you Jaill / Always wrong

End of the year list time. My favorite time of year. Yes, there are plenty of the usual suspects, but I'm pushing 40 and that's what we old people do...hang onto the past. So with further ado, Song 20 - 11 of my top 20 tracks of 2010. Enjoy. fig 1. Lissie 20. Lissie - Bad Romance [...]

It's time for the Redthreat Best Songs of 2010. All personal opinion, of course. These are the ones that moved me the most. It was an incredibly strong year for Greyzone production, and was certainly one where I opened up to Indie Rock way more than previous years. I'd love to hear your responses. 01. Hackman - Always [ The Always EP ] 02. Les Savy Fav - Let's Get Out [...]

Jaill / The Stroller The Socialite / Love and war The Indelicates / Your money The Brothers Comatose / Dead flowers Fresh and Onlys / Tropical Island Suite Broken Little Sister / Birthday The Lodger [...]

I can't believe a whole year has already passed since last year's edition. This time last year E and I were still living in Athens, and we flew here (Barcelona) to attend Primavera Club 2009. That was our very first Primavera ( Club or Sound ), and now here we are, living in the city, going to what is already our third (Primavera Sound 2010 was the second)! Good times indeed. I know the festival appears to have a pretty low profile (internationally at least), and even many visitors to PS Sound don't even [...]

jaill's LP, that's how we burn , is easily one of my favorites from the past year, as evidenced by being highlighted here upon the record's release, consistently holding a space in the 'on repeat' feature for a while, and even earning a spot on the summerset mixtape , so you can imagine how happy i was to see a post yesterday on styrofoam drone regarding a re-issue of another record. the band's previous LP, there's no sky (oh my my) , was recorded in [...]

Mauro of Porcelain Raft Around nine hours into the day, we embarked for the final chapter of this year's CMJ. The destination was Glasslands, a venue that I'd heard much about, but hadn't actually visited until now. It's a small room, with an intimate low stage and a striking, fluffy backdrop that turns molten hues (at least on film). There's also a seating area overlooking the stage, a la Bowery Ballroom. It's a really cool space, and a fitting end to CMJ, which is supposed to be about new experiences. The showcase, [...]
Saturday afternoon’s Advanced Alternative Media (AAM) CMJ Celebration was too good a line-up to pass up (free food is always a plus too) so it was back to the Knitting Factory for a third time. Unfortunately, I was moving a little slow and missed catching Ty Segall’s set. However, Milwaukee’s Jaill made it up for it. Appearing as a three-piece (not sure if that’s a permanent development or if guitarist Ryan Adams — no, not that Ryan Adams — just couldn’t make it) did little to diminish the band’s uniquely bent blending of garage pop and [...]

With New York City abuzz 24/7 in the name of music, we didn’t miss the chance to sponsor a showcase during the infamous CMJ festival. Floridian duo Viernes engaged the early arrival crowd with their trance-enducing experimental loops and harmonies. Jaill hopped onstage next and really cranked up the night’s volume with their punky midwestern rock. What followed was perhaps the defining moment of the evening, and possibly of CMJ as a whole. There is infinite talk about Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. , which typically starts by questioning their ridiculous [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Vincent Kircher was just talking nonsense, the way lots of frontmen do by the third day of the CMJ Music Marathon, but Thursday night at New York City's Studio at Webster Hall, the Jaill singer and guitarist may have revealed a fundamental truth about his band. "Who here is wearing freshly washed jeans?" he asked. "Mine are freshly washed, and they feel terrible -- because they're [...]

It's officially time for CMJ. Don't have time to get to all of the showcases we featured last week ? Here's a list of 15 bands to look out for. Behold! 15. The Chain Gang of 1974 Strong beats backing acoustic guitars, synths and funky bass lines. Some songs are 80’s throw backs, some hearken to arrangements reminiscent of Beck. Tuesday 10/19 @ Highline Ballroom (7PM) Friday 10/22 @ [...]

This Tuesday, October 19th, in Bloomington, Spirit of '68 and MOKB present... Jaill + We Are Hex + Secrets Between Sailors at The Bishop. Tickets available at Landlocked Music and The Buskirk-Chumley Box office. Jaill, recent signees to Sub Pop Records , are described as a somewhat sneaky, rarely sleazy group of guys from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sounds like my kinda dudes. Their brand of psych-pop has a tough-guy edge, but it is catchy enough to get you dancing with that special lady you swindled into joining you at the show. [...]

My introduction to Woozy Viper, a duo from Brooklyn, was the virulent and easily repeatable "You Can't Find Me", the opening track on their second album "Rock & Roll". It's a good intro to an album that follows in the footsteps of the virulent and easily-repeatable hooks, dislocated Lo-Fi jangle that's comparable to that of Harlem or Jaill , but at the same time putting their own unflappable spin on skeeze-rock. You will more than likely finish the album with a foot sore from tapping and a million little pieces of broken-glass-harmonies embedded deep within [...]
