Philadelphia-born guitarist Mike Polizze is taking a breather from the noise punk outfit Birds of Maya , to focus on a more structured approach on his upcoming Purling Hiss release for Woodsist Records , Public Service Announcement. The 12-song LP is scheduled to hit the street on October 26th. Purling Hiss will also be going out on tour to coincide with the album release, beginning on October 19th in Charlottesville, VA, and sharing select dates with The Soft Pack/Kurt Vile tour and Jaill. The tour is scheduled to hit Polizze's hometown [...]

Jaill is the name of Milwaukee, Wisconsin's lo-fi garage-pop quartet Vincent Kircher, Austin Dutmer, Andrew Harris and Ryan Adams. You may recognize them as one of the featured artists from Musical Pairings' August Mix . Their latest album That's How We Burn was released by Subpop at the end of July and consists of eleven tracks of grimy, bouncing psychedelic rock 'n pop that is sure to have you singing along and tapping your toes. That's How We Burn is packed full of tight hooks, catchy choruses, and grooving melodies that'll grab you buy [...]

Jaill's That's How We Burn opens with the strut of steady drum and stirring guitar on "The Stroller," setting the stage for one of the summer's more memorable works. The quick loosening of lyrics on "Everyone's Hip" immerses the listener into a world of oppositions with smooth pop melodies and often brasher guitar lines that come to define the Milwaukee group's pop sensibility. The album is solid throughout whether that be the acoustic foundations of "Summer Mess" or the tinted melodic flourishes of "Thank Us Later," with the latter tempting the listener to sing "Love Potion [...]
This is the video for "The Stroller" from Jaill 's second album That's How We Burn , released by local label Sub Pop a little over a month ago (7/27). It's quickly becoming one of my summer jams. The quartet is from Milwaukee and has a melodic ramshackle approach to garage rock that many bands before them have perfected. That's ok, though, because us fans of rock music gotta be lenient with that kind of shit, else we wouldn't have anything to listen to. Ya dig? Jaill reminds me a bit of [...]

Anyone else get into Jaill this past month? I did, and they'll be finishing up a few California gigs soon, before two more dates closer to home. In Chicago they'll open for Johnny & Jenny and Love As Laughter at Lincoln Hall . Jaill - We've Won Filed under: redthreat

You know me, I'm a sucker for a good power pop band. I don't need experimental or existential-just shiny hooks cranked out by a guitar-bass-drums combo (power trio preferred). Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Jaill is a four-piece that makes rock 'n' roll that probably won't dramatically change anyone's life. It's just ... good. The band has been quietly doing so for almost a decade, but their Sub Pop debut- That's How We Burn -is quickly making Jaill more buzzworthy than a warm can of Blatz. It should be noted that three of [...]

This year has been a great year for music thus far, and I believe the monthly mixtapes here at Musical Pairings have been a testament to that. Each one has been jam packed with great new discoveries and the August mix is no exception. This one offers a little something for everyone: lo-fi garage rock, psychedelic folk-pop, electronica, hip hop, experimental hip hop, 902s rap, synth pop, electro pop, and some good old-fashioned orchestral "indie" rock. I'd expect you'll recognize some familiar faces (Arcade Fire, Big Boi, Best Coast, and Dr. Dre, for example), but you should pay extra special [...]

There’s something sexy about Wisconsin garage rockers Jaill . “That’s How We Burn," their debut for Sub Pop, falls somewhere between ’80s pop-punk and stoner dance-rock territory , blending dishy hooks , back-up harmonies and a whole lot of references to weed. Lead track “The Stroller” plays like the perfect soundtrack to start Saturday night, in a fast car full of anticipation. Core members Vinnie Kircher and Austin Dutmer have been playing together around Milwaukee since 2002 and are touring the rest of a country in a big way these days, supporting both the Hold Steady and [...]
After a bit of self-imposed music vacation, the return to it brings rough entry. I only had the NPR expos to tease me. Silence was hard at first, but smooth in retrospect. So then my latest visit to the record ... Continue reading

"This time we actually cared about people listening to it". Und prompt hörten auch die richtigen Leute hin. [...]

Guess what's happening this weekend? It's my favorite holiday... MY BIRTHDAY. The one day of the year I'm allowed to be extra annoying and make people do what I want them to do. Well, this year, one of the things I really want to make you do is listen to a mix of only songs that I really like. It includes my favorite band of all time (The Beatles, duh) and a song from each band that's playing at my birthday party and other songs that are just generally awesome. [...]

That's how we burn " via Sub Pop .

Between the many great albums out this week, coupled with those missed from last week, going to the record store would provide quite the headache in what to pick up other than Arcade Fire's latest. Obviously, the band's third album, The Suburbs , is what everyone will be primed to pick up today. Though, I would definitely recommend the new Autolux album, Transit Transit , along with some excellent releases from Best Coast , The Magic Numbers , Menomena , Young Galaxy , and Versus . [...]
