Seattle-based troubadour, James Apollo , is preparing to released his Damian Jurado-produced new record, Little War, Little Less . Apollo's sounds has been described as the voice of Cat Stevens mixed with the cabaret of Tom Waits. No where on the album is this more evident than on the first single, Two by Two . MOKB has the premiere of his new video for the single, directed by Jason Affolder. From Affolder regarding the creation of the video, I wandered aimlessly [...]

America's thoughtful songwriter, James Apollo builds up to his forthcoming 2nd album, with a meandering, soothingly provocative backing vocal inclusive ballad, 'Two By Two'. It offers time for contemplation and the chance to ponder upon life and love. The achingly soulful vocals help the emotion seep out of the song. Apollo builds up trust with his calming gait, as he delivers a tale of mysterious tale of longing and heartache through the pondering, poetics lyrics. It's helped along by a deft crawling, keys touch that gives a rustic edge to the song. Depth, rhythm and heart combine for [...]

Following the release of its critically acclaimed debut album 'Till Your Feet Bleed' in 2010, American songwriter James Apollo returns with a new album in February 2012. The album, titled 'Little War, Little Less' was recorded at Bear Creek Studio in Seattle and produced by Secretly Canadian recording artist Damien Jurado . The first taster off the new album is "Two by Two," a rolling lament that marches aboard a riverboat to the sweet unknown. The track was recorded live in two takes by Apollo's [...]

I broke down in Arizona a few weeks back and this is what the old man told me... Dangerous Don was a lawman and a familyman and an armyman. He was also a tow truck driver. "You can't just wait to get lucky. Look at this. I wore off the end of my finger from crossing them too much" He shows me the index finger of his left hand, which is indeed missing everything north of the middle joint. I naturally assume table saw, and I'm usually right, but as he [...]

EL CHUCO Y QUE I was in El Paso, Texas, a small town only a few thousand miles north of Mexico City, and a few million from New York, when things got a little out of hand. James Apollo and the Sweet Unknown were playing a joint called the Wherehouse (which was an apt description) in what looked like the outskirts of El Paso, but really, all of El Paso looks like the outskirts of El Paso. The sidewalks are made of old sheet metal and the populace is mostly [...]

Label: Marterry Release Date: 11/04/11 Link: Official Site Buy: Amazon James Apollo's brief but prolific six year career sees him release his latest work Born Lucky: The Best of . The album is touted as a "best of" compilation of his releases and demos as well as some new material, although at little over 30 minutes perhaps it would be more appropriate to label it as a brief introduction to the work of [...]

Welcome to the second part of the James Apollo Diaries. His album Born Lucky is out on Materry Music on April 11th (preorder - here ) "So, what do you want to do now?" "You kidding? Look at that ride!" We were 20 miles outside of Duluth, Minnesota, where James Apollo and the Sweet Unknown were spending the weekend playing a couple shows at Fitgers Brewhouse. This meant we had the full day for adventure before entertaining the local gentry with some tumbleweed sounds. [...]

"We'd been driving for over 35 hrs when I pulled the van into a Chevron a few miles west of Lubbock, Texas. "Set your watches for 4:50AM" We all walked into the field behind the gas station, threw down some blankets and slept that hard, fast sleep so necessary when there are coyotes, bugs and scorpions about. 3 hrs later the 5 of us were back on the road to Austin. Pretty rock 'n' roll right? We made soundcheck at the first show by 2 hrs, a [...]

In the summer of 2010, James Apollo released his British debut 'Til Your Feet Bleed' and he now follows that with 'Born Lucky', a career-spanning compilation that ducks and weaves through his extensive back catalogue, stretching back over six prolific years. Read more..

This is good. A laid back, bluesy EP awash with gentle guitar, atmospheric woodwind, characterful piano and singer James Apollo's distinctive, appealingly husky singing voice, "Born Lucky" is well produced and catchy and easy to listen to without being "ea... Read more..

I have to admit James Apollo had passed me by until this week, kind of feel I have missed out!! Having released his UK debut last summer 'Til Your feet Bleed , the follow up is a compilation of songs from his stateside releases spanning the last five years. Right now, there seems to be a real resurgence in this form of easy-listening Americana, which is fine by me when it's delivered as good as this. With a late night bar, one for the road undercurrent to his music, comparisons with the likes of Tom Waits spring to mind. [...]

the third and final day of my little YNM management trio of posts takes us to the indie-folk (kind of) of james apollo. i find his arrangements to be a bit captivating...taking me just far enough out of my comfort zone to spark an above average level of interest. i don't know that i can package the tunes into just one genre, as each track seems to take on a life of it's own, but i can tell you that james' october release til your feet bleed is a great listen all the way through. it's one that [...]

With a dusty voice and a penchant for the dramatic, James Apollo sings like a lovelorn urban cowboy, inviting you to join him on his lonely road. The New York-based, Minneapolis-bred crooner will be releasing "'Til Your Feet Bleed," his third full-length for No Alternative records, on Tuesday. The songs are dark, but seductive, convincing us that you'll get to a better place if you just keep on walking. "How Hard" is a bit of gut-wrencher, but as Apollo shows on "'Til Your Fleet Bleed," he can do "Happiness." ||| Download: [...]
