For the next couple of weeks, James Dean Bradfield is sitting in for Bethan Elfyn on Radio Wales of a Saturday night. -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch
Sekä James Dean Bradfield ( The Great Western, 2006 ) että Momus ( Circus Maximus, 1986 ) ovat tehneet onnistuneet versiot Jacques Brelin koskettavasta kappaleesta Voir un ami pleurer (Les Marquises, 1977). Syksyiseen ja sateiseen päivään sopivan tunnelman lisäksi kappaleen sanat pysäyttävät: "So our defeats are just reminders / Of death that waits behind it all The body wilts before the mind does / Surprised to see how soon it falls" So now that money's all but scentless / Noses and consciences are clear The pointless [...]

"Hollow Heart" By Birdland. Reunions are very much part and parcel of today's musical landscape, some work extremely and sometimes things are better left in the past, that " foreign country" : were " they do things differently. " However some bands you sense may feel may have unfinished business. Birdland, that fleeting peroxide riot of white noise and rock n roll mayhem that flared brightly and briefly in the late 80' and early 90's are back ! Formed in 1988 by brothers Robert and "Lizzy" Lee Vincent, Birdland's [...]

Our very own prince of darkness, Richard The Goth, dons his cape and clambers aboard his hanson carriage to report on... MANIC STREET PREACHERS : HULL CITY HALL : OCTOBER 5th 2010 "Little Baby Nothing" By The Manic Street Preachers. It's a risky business, declaring yourself a rock n [...]

NME has got some early insights into the Manic Street Preachers ' upcoming release, 'Postcards From A Young Man', which comes out on September 20, and news of its UK tour as well. NME writes : "The group's 10th studio album, 'Postcards From A Young Man', is out in September. A UK tour starts in Glasgow on September 29. Frontman James Dean Bradfield said that the album would be an unashamedly pop-orientated affair following 2009's bleak 'Journal For Plague Lovers'. "We're going for big radio hits on this one," he told NME. "It isn't a [...]
The first post of the month features covers of every track on a famous album. Got an idea for a future pick? Leave a note in the comments! London Calling entered into the world in December 1979, but didn't make its stateside debut for another month. That makes 2010 the album's 30th Anniversary on this side of the pond. It's aged well. While many classic albums sound very much of their time -

Introducing The Guilty Ones - debut single "All There Is" out April 5th produced by Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, U2) The Guilty Ones are going to be a prominent force this summer. James Dean Bradfield of The Manic Street Preachers is a huge fan and has added his string section to one of their songs - Heartbeat and it is going to be massive. The London based band release their debut single "All There Is" on [...]
With their last tour of the States now over ten years ago, the band looks no worse for the wear. Bassist and longstanding main songwriter Nicky Wire is an attention getter, as always, doing high kicks wearing a naval captain's hat in front of his boa-covered mic-stand that could double for a colorful giant macaw. James Dean Bradfield's voice is as beautiful and crystalline as ever, an instrument that is simultaneously capable of the range and timbre of Peter Cetera and the sneer and outrage of John Lydon, making it possible for this band to turn even a mundane cover [...]

James Dean Bradfield I think I've finally figured out why I like Twitter . It's like a search engine for everything you actually want to find. I like taking photos, but I don't particularly like writing reviews of the shows I go to. Mostly, you could say that at best, I write commentary. With that in mind, I am going to direct you readers to a review I found on Twitter. It's from an [...]

The ridiculous and offensive decision by supermarket chains to cover up the sleeve of the new Manics album gives HMV's quotemeister Gennaro Castaldo a chance to stress the youth club's liberal values : HMV's Gennaro Castaldo said: "It's not the retailer's place to censor the choice that it makes available to its customers. "The fundamental difference here is that while specialist stores see music first and foremost as an art form, to be respected and appreciated, to supermarkets an album is no different to a tin of baked beans." It's not just Gennaro [...]

This track emerged a couple of years ago from a, then unknown, London band called Johnny Boy . Rumors abounded about the producer (The Manic Street Preachers' James Dean Bradfield) and how such an incredible song had gone unnoticed for such a long time. It was finally released and then... nothing. Such a shame as the Spector-esque production and epic songwriting of both the single AND album really did deserve more. Johnny Boy - You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve [...]

I bear nothing but contempt and ill-will towards the pope (or any other religious leader for that matter), but on what other day would I have an excuse to post this song from James Dean Bradfield 's superb solo album The Great Western ? James Dean Bradfield - "Say Hello To The Pope" [ mp3 ] In 2000 Ratzinger attacked Rock and Roll as "the expression of elemental passions" and described some rock concerts as becoming "a form of worship [...]
There's a Christmas song on here, but it's a really bleak one. In similarly-related news, if you're in the UK, perhaps you might want to buy the new Malcolm Middleton single today? It's really good, actually. If you like the music, you should use some of your hard-earned money to buy it. If you're in Rhode Island, maybe you might want to do that at Tom's Tracks, which is closing after 23 years on Thayer Street. The whole store's half off. 1. Tom Vek, Nothing But Green Lights [...]
Here it is. And as every year, it was not too easy to narrow down a list. But this year was a bit different. Normally, I vote for one album to be THE album of the year, but I just couldn't do that this time. Not because there were so many candidates for it... rather because there was no album that completely blew me away. That I kept playing over and over again. Mind you, there are a few great ones, but none of them reaches the impact that for example last years winner Mew had [...]

The best album of the year? Not sure, there's tough competition as expected but despite being amongs the biggest Manic Street Preachers fans out there, I had no idea what to expect from James Dean Bradfield's solo album. But I was thankfully blown away and never more so than this song which is sublime. I cannot recommend this highly enough and it was equally superb seeing him live in Dundee. James Dean Bradfield - Still a Long Way to Go (Highly recommended) [...]
