Saw U2 3D the other day. The 3D is quite spectacular but the show didn't exactly blow me away. I just couldn't shake the feeling that these were the umpteenth time these songs have been performed, though at the same time I didn't want to hear their newer stuff too much either. So basically there wasn't any way this movie was going to work for me, though some more Achtung Baby may have helped. I love Sunday Bloody Sunday but honestly how long must they really sing that song? The best [...]
Chicago musician James Eric has accomplished quite a bit in recent years. Self-releasing four albums, as well as producing, editing, and composing the score for Meet The Monkeys a documentary directed by Collin Souter which focuses on the importance of arts education in elementary schools, and the positive effect that a non-for-profit theater company has on the Chicago community. In October he released a greatest hits album entitled, Tonight The Moon , and the album is a great introduction to James' music for those who have not heard his previous albums. James also [...]

James Eric and I are a lot alike. We both have blogs, write songs, make films and we are both very passionate at what we do. It is James Eric's passion that will win you over. Based out of Chicago, Illinois this one man show was nice enough to send me his "greatest hits" album. It is a compilation of tracks from his first four albums, but you would never really know if you weren't familiar to his music. So when I popped in Tonight The Moon I was greeted with a wonderful sonic trip that felt like [...]
This week, the Broken Dial mp3 Mixtape features new music from: Apes, Cass McCombs, Castanets, Cinemasophia, Cut Off Your Hands, David Singer,...

In two short weeks, I'll officially be reporting from the new Rock Sellout headquarters in the tiny town of Kaukauna. If the name sounds familiar, it's probably because you've had Kaukauna Cheese grace your taste buds a time or two. Kaukauna is minutes away from Appleton, WI. I've made an official decision this afternoon: The batch posts in this section will feature 5 songs from promos I receive. Based upon your feedback, I will feature the 1 artist [...]
James Eric is a generous solo performer who we first reviewed at our old site. His vocal style is kind of folky, in the Bob Dylan kind of way. The music is a little mellow/shoegazery (is that a word), a little folky, and a little rock and roll. James is at his best live, where he shows lots of passion and imagination. He provides TONS of free music on his site, - original songs, instrumentals, and covers. The best part of his covers is that he really changes stuff up from the original, to [...]

It is rare that I am this responsive. I got an email from a reader yesterday who kindly suggested that I check out the music of James Eric Laczkowski . So I did. He is a singer/songwriter from right here in Chicago that has received some attention for his cover songs, but his original material is pretty good as well. It is fairly eclectic for singer/songwriter fare and that is a good thing. Did I mention that he has virtually all his recorded material available for free download at his site? 4 [...]
Hey, I'm back! I started writing this entry about eight days ago and only finished today. That's illness for you. But I'm feeling better. But you know who isn't? My friend's roommate's cat Tigger. [Warning: Sad news and request for donations forthcoming. ] He needs a leg amputation to keep his cancer from spreading. If you can/want to spare a few dollars to help her afford his surgery, please read his story and donate here . Sorry to get all serious and beggy for a second [...]

THE BURDEN BROTHERS Were you disappointed by the new Jet album? (God, I was. Talk about tons of promise leading to absolutely nothing . . . In the words of one of my favorite reviewers, J. Freedom du Lac, “You might not want to unwrap the Jet CD.â€) Are you a fan of Alice and Chains ? (Well, I used to be.) [...]
Sexy Back's getting all the attentions it doesn't deserve. Despite being an overhyped, not-all-that comeback single, it still spent weeks on top of the charts, only to be replaced by 'My Love', and now it seems that every indie hipster have their take on it. Here are a few that I found: The Changes - Sexy Back (Live on WEEM) A tongue-in-cheek acoustic cover ditty from The Changes. You can even hear them chuckling during the performance. However, they did it good. Too bad it's only [...]

Sorry for not posting anything the last couple of days. There was apparently some area outage on Halloween morning with our internet service provider here. I'd like to mention that I was pretty pissed about that day because, I was actually looking forward to giving out candy that night as it was the first Halloween spent at the location we had just recently moved to. I left work early and even spent $30 on candy. So I was sitting on the couch with NOTHING to do (our tv cable was out too) and apparently there were [...]

James Eric Laczkowski , like MOKB, is a fan of covers. MOKB can't play them, but James Eric Laczkowski can. For performances and marketing he drops the "Laczkowski" for obvious reasons. James Eric - SexyBack (Justin Timberlake cover) James Eric - Two Headed Boy (Neutral Milk Hotel cover) James Eric - We Live Again (Beck cover) James Eric - Waiting For Superman (Flaming Lips cover) [...]

Here are two versions of blogsphere favorites done on an acoustic guitar. James Eric ~ Sexyback Jude ~ Crazy (this is a link to the post by Craig not the actual mp3) Get more of these tracks at The Hype Machine: Sexyback and Crazy Speaking of crazy, EZarchive 3.0 has driven me to drink. The Duke will be exploring other possibilities. Which means two [...]

First off, let me just say I am extremely hung over from last night. We went out last night with our friends Jeff and Amanda to see The Bad Downs and have a few too many drinks. I pulled a costume together at the last minute and went as a roadie, as you can tell by the picture above (I'm on the far left). Unfortunately, I'm older than I used to be, and 8 beers and 2 Jaeger bombs affects this guy a lot more than it used to [...]

I got an email from an anonymous tipster about an Chicago artist named James Eric and his acoustic cover of JT's Sexy Back. I'm a big fan of covers of any kind, so this is right up my alley and I was pleased to see that James Eric has huge variety on his site, all of which he pulls off wonderfully. There's some classic covers like "Where Is My Mind" and "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" as well as a great selection of indie covers from Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel, Wilco, and Sigur [...]
