Judging by the last few things I've posted on here, I seem to be in a more chilled out mood, and the tracks that have been posted have all been a bit more easy-going than the usual bangery stuff I put out most of the time. But hey, you have to keep it a bit mixed up, right? So today won't be bringing back the bangers, I'm afraid. This doesn't seem to be a problem though, when there's plenty of good music to pick from. Like this new track from James Yuill for instance. A looped acoustic guitar and some [...]

I honestly don't know why but I shunned both Sam Isaac and James Yuill for quite a long time last year. I guess I must have thought they were just another couple of crappy singer songwriters, artists I could hardly muster a care about let alone considering hating. Then I heard 'Sideways' and 'No Surprise', two absolutely fantastic songs covering a great distance on the male solo artist spectrum. Sam Isaac uses the age old formula of soothing vocals and strumming guitar yet somehow transcends that [...]

It may seem like I have an obsession with James Yuill at the moment but he just keep giving us stuff we like. Here is a new remix of his track "This Sweet Love" from Prince Thomas, couldn't picked a better guy for this remix. James debut album "Turning Down Water For Air" might become my favorite work album of the year when it will be released on Moshi Moshi on October 13th. It is just that beautiful. I've seen James Yuill be described as 'folktronica', which while I can appreciate may give some sort of relevant likening to his music, I just don't think is suitable. Especially for his current single No Pins Allowed . This track has much more of a hard edge than 'folktronica' would have you believe. And the 'folk' part I can accept. I really can. That term and I get along. I believe its accurate to show what the lovely Mr Yuill is doing. But alluding to 'electronica'. I don't agree with. I'd probably push so far to say [...]

Sam Isaac will be releasing a new EP in two weeks from now called "Sticker Star And Tape" (released via Alcopop Records on 29th September). We got hold of two remixes of the title track for you and since one of them is from one of our favorites, James Yuill, we jumped all over it. This week we go to London for our Mixin It Up. Take it away James: "Hi everyone. I'm James Yuill . I guess you could describe my music as Folktronica with a heavy house twist. My album "Turning Down Water For Air" comes out on Moshi Moshi on October 13th. I did a remix of Roots Manuva's Buff Nuff for the Discobelle Comp and won it so they asked me for a mix. I gladly accepted. And here it is. Now i should point out, I'm no DJ. In [...]

dl: JAMES YUILL - No Pins Allowed ( Z - YSI ) ------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------- ------- The UK is absolutely overflowing with catchy electropop auteurs this year. Frankmusik and Sportsday Megaphone have both tread heavily on bloglandia in the past but surprisingly little attention has been paid to James Yuill , aside from a token remix or two and his [...]

photo by by emily dennison ...in the Roots Manuva competition. James Yuil sent over the remix we liked the most and with that he grabbed the prize package. A big thanks to him and everyone else that sent us remixes. We had a hard time picking a winner with all the great stuff we got. London, England I'm not sure why more people aren't blogging the hell outta James Yuill. I'm most impressed with him because he isn't always strumming his guitar down a river of tears like most singer/songwriters. Highly loveable if you enjoy the electronic twist.
