So, I was going to post another '5 Songs with' list today (and by god was it a good one) but Mercy Arms just had to come along and let everyone know that their soon to be released debut self-titled album was now streaming on their Myspace. This had me excited, much like a lot of releases this year it would seem. You don't have to guess twice to figure out just how much I love everything this band does; you can go through the archives just for further proof, but I have to say that this album [...]
I've moved way beyond excitement now as I realise with each passing day that Cut Off Your Hands debut record, You & I , will hit shelves and I will finally be able to hold it in my hands. A little fanatic? That's an understatement. I have quite literally just been itching to hear more than two EP's worth of material, and it's finally going to happen, October 1st to be precise. So, just to calm myself down (and maybe a few other COYH fanatics out there) here is there re-worked version of Expectations , which [...]
It was only a month ago that I was raving and harping about The Grates new single Burn Bridges and how much this band continues to delight it's fans again and again with everything they do. Well, now they have just dropped their new album upon Australian audiences, entitled 'Teeth Lost, Hearts Won' , and after giving it a few listens their is so much single potential behind all their songs. God knows how they do it, but they do it well. The new album will be what you'll expect from a Grates record but [...]

I've been doing interviews and the such for about two and a half years now, and in that time I have the greatest opportunities to meet and greet some of my idols. From drinking tea with Sarah Blasko, to hanging out with The Grates (my first ever interview mind you), I feel pretty good with where my writing career has taken me. It got even more sweeter a few weeks ago when I had the pleasure of speaking to Noah (aka Panda Bear) from Animal Collective on the phone about solo projects, the new AC record, and when they would [...]

2008 has proven with each passing week that it really is the year for music. We all think that each can't get better and better but it does just that, and we all end up eating our words. This year has been a phenomenal year for releases, there have been some excellent debuts, perfect follow ups and returns from some greats. One album that has really impressed me is that of Dr. Dog 's latest, and in my opinion, their most solid release and brilliant follow up to last years effort, We All Belong . Fate [...]

Chaingang are a band that have always been in my sights ever since the formation of the group about a year ago. Whilst going through countless spam mail and other assorted junk everday I would occassionally stumble across an email from the group stating that they have a new song available or their touring or just any news in general. This was enough to keep me interested, and watching the four-piece transform from the very beginning to where they are now has me a full-fledged fan and somewhat a stalker. The band has seen it's bumps, mainly that of [...]
Having started things off back in 2006 with a rare and hard-to-find song by James, I thought it would be worthwhile to do something similar with post # 501. The band had created a bit of stir with the initial singles released on Factory Records, and mainstream success was anticipated with the move to Sire Records. The first release on the new label appeared in March 1986, and it was probably
Wig-out bands, sexy girls and gunfights...
James was one of the most unique bands swirling around the 90's Brit Pop scene. They had a sound that was more ornate and orchestral than their contemporaries, and that made for music that for lack of a better term seemed more artistic. After a lengthy hiatus earlier in this decade, which included a disasterous solo attempt by lead singer Tim Booth, James have reunited. The result is the new album Hey Ma . The album is a throwback to the heydays of James. The attempts at Edge-like guitar riffs and drum machining that plagued [...]

Howling Bells seem to be on the rise once again. I had the pleasure of interviewing the lovely and divine, and surprisingly bouncy, Juanita Stein a few weeks back. It seems the group, back then, where doing the final touches to their new album and things we're "looking good". Being a big fan of their debut release which was two years ago now - time flies - I immediately was looking forward to this. No date has been set yet for the as-yet-titled second album, but surely it can't be too far away. So, for the time being enjoy some [...]
We're smack in the middle of the desert's most thrilling and theatrical time of year - the monsoon. The daily threat of startlingly intense thunderstorms is both friendly and fierce. The rain will come, or it won't, any afternoon or evening. And if it comes, it comes quickly and with such a force and authority it seems as if each individual thunderstorm is trying to match the surrounding
It's a Juggernauts frenzy! I've been looking for an excuse for a while now to make another write up about the guys, as they have been living overseas (god knows where) for the last 5 or so months. As expected they have been flogging themselves senseless with non-stop touring around the world, releasing some absolutely phenomenal songs along the way, and now this! A remake of the video for 'In The Galaxy', which I say was probably the wisest decision the band has made in their career. This video does anything and everything that is Midnight Juggernauts justice and some [...]

Toronto - For all you britpoppers out there, let it be known that the band James is touring North America, and you must go. For the casual fans wondering who is James? Is that James Blunt? NOPE. James is the band that sang that 'American Pie' song. You know which one. Despite the fact that Tim Booth now looks like some sort of Bond villain, I am still extremely excited that one of the classic brit bands has decided to come serenade us with classics like 'Come Home', 'Sit Down' and 'Tommorrow'. It will be a fantastic show [...]

After a depressing break up (at least for me) in 2001 James Return with their 10th Studio Album Hey Ma and it's excellent!! Fans of James will not be disappointed and they might even make some new ones. Time will tell were this album will fall amongst all their albums as they have many great ones. My favorites from them are 1993's big commercial crossover success Laid and 1999's almost un-noticed in the US Millionaires . For me the beauty of James has mostly been their underground [...]

So, Children Collide are back. And what does this mean? It means right about now I'm pretty much frozen in excitement over what my ears have been witnessing on repeat for the last half an hour. There are multiple reasons as to why I love this band. I completely ignore the fact that people seem to jump on their bandwagon then off again (seriously kids, make up your mind), their as cool as cool comes, their unbelievable live (I don't think I have copped so much of an ear bashing as I have at their concerts), and on top of [...]

I've been away from a computer for last week or so, and to come back from a long disappearance to discover Bloc Party are somewhat back with a brand new single which had me a little gob smacked. I'll come out and say it now, I'm not much of a fan of these guys but in saying that I do own both albums, have seen them live, and on odd occasions maybe found humming, whistling, or in fact singing one of their songs. It's weird relationship I have them; I guess their a guilty pleasure perhaps? Whatever, this [...]
