James playing The Paradise Rock Club in Boston. We've been seeing a lot of shows out on the road lately, this current James tour being one of the many that we'll also catch up with in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Two years ago now, the group released their tenth album, 2008's "Hey Ma" and more recently put out two back to back EPs, "The Night Before" and "The Morning After", released in the US as one double-EP titled, "The Morning After the Night Before"--also the name of their [...]

Toronto - WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OO. Just one day after I wrote about not wooing at shows, I found myself doing it excessively at the Queen Elizabeth Theater. The difference however, was everyone in the audience was also doing it. Still, kinda hypocritical. Anyways, James was in town Thursday night to play to a sold out show at Queen Elizabeth Theatre. They were here to promote their double releases this year - The Morning After and the Night Before but lets not kid ourselves here. Everyone in the crowd (most nearing 40 or over) was here for [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music As James started their show Tuesday night, none of the English septet's members were onstage. The acoustic guitar seemed to be drifting down from up above, and when the lights found lead singer Tim Booth, he was on the mezzanine level of New York City's Webster Hall, singing over a simple chord pattern. The song was 'Sit Down,' but he might have said, "Look up!" Actually, "Chin [...]

Frank Yang I'm not going to suggest that there were stars - or planets, as the case may be - in alignment this week over Toronto but it did strike me as interesting that in the span of 72 hours, there'd be no less than four recent Mercury Prize nominees - and two winners - in town to play shows, three of them on Monday night alone. So while fellow 2010 shortlisters Villagers were at The Drake and 2007 champs Klaxons were at the Mod Club, Oxford's Foals were [...]

Toronto - Late September is usually the start of concert season. This week, things start going CRAAAAAAAAZZZZYY. (Crazier if you are in Montreal) Lets take a look. James Sept 30, Queen Elizabeth Theatre In town to promote their two 2010 releases - The Night Before and The Morning After , James will be playing the Great Elizabeth Theatre this Thursday. After the absolute brilliance of their last show here at the Phoenix, I expect nothing less then a brilliant performance by this band. First of three James [...]
This is one of the best concert week's that I can remember. Almost every night poses hard decisions. Thankfully I have taken the burden out of your hands and I'm suggesting: Villagers Villagers, The Drake Underground, Sep 27 Since I accidentally saw Villagers perform at CMW their debut album Becoming a Jackal has received a Mercury Prize nomination. This is a great chance to see frontman

It pains me to have to do this, but I have two tickets to see James (of "Laid" fame) in Toronto next week that, due to circumstances, I can't use. So rather than scalp them I thought I'd give you, my *ahem* loyal readers a crack at them. The show is Thurs. Sept. 30th at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. To get your hands on the tickets please hit me up one of these ways: Email Twitter Myspace

This week's list of releases is a prime example of how great being a music fan can be. It's such a completely overwhelming amount of great albums, that it would be just silly to recommend only a few. With new stuff from well-known bands like Of Montreal , Azure Ray (first album in seven years), Blonde Redhead , Weezer , The Walkmen , and Elf Power to some gems that are under the radar from Black Mountain , The Black Angels , and Megafaun - [...]
The U.K. band James reformed just a few years ago after a long hiatus and they sound better than ever. The band will unveil a double CD of new material this fall. It is called The Night Before the Morning After. Today's Top Tune is an uplifting sonic endeavor, it's "Look Away."
Let's quickly sketch the situation: the interview was to take place at 5PM but I decided to give them a (very badly informed) guided tour through Ghent first, then they had to soundcheck, take their stuff to the hotel, go and eat and play a show of course! So Veronica Falls are Roxanne, James, Patrick and Marion and they are all super lovely. They played a really tight set and for once, every face in the audience at Café Video seemed to have turned their head to the stage. High five! Eventually the interview took place at about [...]
Here's a quick look at what I couldn't address properly this week: Jukebox The Ghost, Everything Under The Sun I have to admit I absolutely loved Jukebox The Ghost's debut album. This week they returned with a second offering of key-fueled indie pop. This time around, synthesizers join the piano to power these hook-laden tracks. Mark this as one of the easiest to enjoy albums you'll hear

Yet another one of the bands that helped make Manchester become the mecca of indie music for the last thirty-odd years is about to lay the smackdown on the US next week. Friends, open your arms wide and say hello to James! The band is about to release a double helping of goodness on us in the form of a double record entitled The Morning After/The Night Before and I couldn't be happier. They'll also be touring the States for real this time unlike the sham from a couple of years where the band dropped in and dropped [...]
