I think I first started taking an interest in Chicago house after hearing Jamie Principle's Waiting On My Angel on a weird rare groove mixtape in the late nineties, I don't think I had paid house in general much attention until then, I was too busy falling into the deep funk 45 black hole, or latin, or bossa nova, whatever the vogue was. I went looking for the record, couldn't find it, and so bought the original pressing on Persona via mail order, the first classic house record I ever bought. Only problem was the mix on the record sounded [...]

Having worked with Jamie Principle on some of the most seminal House records ever created, expectations are understandably high for Frankie Knuckles' latest single. Unsurprisingly with artists of this calibre, it doesn't disappoint. "I'll Take You There" features all the things you'd expect; luscious chords, fierce bass and of course a flawless vocal from Principle. Presenting you another option to spend this momentous spiritual evening known as 11/11/11. The " Treat You Right " crew is back for an another enlightening endeavour, totally doing it all just "for the love of it". Hopefully this blog-post fulfills the duty of being your backup "wake up call", if you were totally unaware of the "11:113 prompts on the bed-side clock, courtesy of your fun loving-spirit guardian(s). Those spinning discs on the night would be the usual TYR suspects: Leslie Salvador, Mayo (& Hendy Kana), Richard Kelly, and joining them is Thomas Henderson, Gambol & [...]

We've all heard about the devastating events that occurred in Japan this year. Well UK DJ/producer Mark Knight , the mastermind behind house label Toolroom Records , has decided to contribute his <3 to those in need. Mark is giving all proceeds from his remix of Florence + the Machine's You've Got The Love to helping orphaned children recover from the disasters. Mark's unmistakeable techy sound fuels Florence Welch's amazing voice for this remix. He also gave a nostalgic flare when he threw in a sample [...]
Chris is from Norway and he is making edits of dance classics (lots of them!). After checking out his edit on " Baby wants to ride " from the House pioneer Jamie Principle go visit his soundcloud page to get a bunch of nice disco, funk and house edits! Posted by VangelisLo

Hey Boppers. Another week, another beat. Here's some more House music for you. - First up we have an ol' Paul Johnson cut from 1997. To be honest, I had to search on here to make sure I didn't post this already and I was shocked to see I never posted any Paul Johnson. This isn't a hit song for him, but its a good example of what he's good at. Paul Johnson - I Wonder Why - The [...]

Uni for this semester is coming to a close (exams in two weeks) and thus, I'm trying to get all these tracks out on the blog, one step at a time. Let's progress onwards shall we disciples? > > > > Heard this one in a Revenge mix a while back. Acid Pauli makes it cool deeep. And who doesn't love that Gaye vocal? MP3: Marvin Gaye - What's Going On (Acid Pauli Remix) Here's a nice remix by The Popular People's Front released in 2009 [...]

Ok so it's a bit of an obvious choice for Classics Friday but screw it - it's an absolutely amazing tune and any excuse to give it a listen is a good one. Purists will of course tell you that the original 1985 version of the track (audio below also) by Jamie Principle is the one you should be listening to, but I say ignore them and give the Candi Staton version another spin. While the original is indeed a classic, it's Staton's amazing vocal that takes the track to the next level. [...]

We're proud to announce our new club concept Virgin Ears – The Intimate Disco Club together with Dogs from Redding and Blek ( Samlingen ). The premiere night is this Friday and we got a feeling it's going to be sweaty. The club will take place in the intimate basement of Blå Skåpet. It's going to be personal and intense downstairs with a little help from our lasers in the dark and of course the great pumping music. Here is a teaser for the premiere night with a remix of Kraftwerk.: [...]

Just a glimpse at a few new additions to my crate over the past month.... New double sided release on Institubes for Renaissance Man out of France. A tribal-prog journey with a chopped vocal and prayer service sandwiched in the center. Track down the Riva Starr remix of the track below for added jungle flava. MP3: RENAISSANCE MAN - WHAT IS GURU? Acid is far from over, and evident in this track from '87 complete with dualing 303's and jazz piano [...]

This version is the A2 on the vinyl, cant find a decent quality of the A1. It is a Bicep anthem! Chicago House meets Disco with some seriously sleazy vocals. Beep beep! Ahhhh Follow that meat trail. Download audio file (Bad%20Boy.mp3) Frankie Knuckles feat. Jamie Principle- Bad Boy

Ok, It's not lazy Sunday and in fact there was no real reason for this post but I felt compelled to write something while I'm in the process of cleaning my mac from accumulated mp3 garbage. Going through 1000's of unsorted music files is a bitch and even more so is the actual cataloging of such files. And while I'm not gonna bore you with the details or reasons for this Epiphany, I came across this indie band from the UK by the name of Friendly Fires . bla bla bla, they are nowhere close to reaching the success [...]

In the wake of the triumphant, Christmas Day leak of Animal Collective's highly-anticipated Merriweather Post Pavilion , indie nerds like myself and Kyle have already had many heated discussions about the intricacies of its eleven tracks. One question that came to our minds was how much, if any, sampling was used on the record. With the mystery behind at least one of their many gorgeous sonic flourishes revealed ("Daily Routine" opens with a revelatory build-up of terse accordion samples which snowball into the glistening arpeggio which comes to punctuate each verse of the song), many questions still remain about [...]

I have to admit, this is probably one of more clever covers to to come across my desk recently. For classic house music fans who like a little indie with their dance, Friendly Fires ' brilliant remake of proto-house track Your Love by Jamie Principle (with Frankie Knuckles) will be an inspired treat. The Neo-Post-Punk-Disco-House revolution starts here. Friendly Fires - Your Love Enjoy! LS
