I really believe this, I think it is impossible to not like this girl. Not only is she adorable and beyond likable, she also put out one of the most surprising albums of the year. Janelle Monae is one of the very artists that has been able to achieve mainstream success while not being shunned by the "alternative" community of the ever pretentious music critics, while this really shouldn't be an accomplishment, the few artists that have been able to do this puts Monae in the company of a select few. I can't even really explain why [...]

Janelle Monae - Atlantic Records *Everyday until Christmas, NeonLimelight.com will be counting down 12 of our favorite underrated songs of 2010. These are songs that, for whatever reason, were completely kick-ass awesome, but didn’t get the respect, airplay, sales, or chart positions they deserved, in our humble opinions. And so, we’re shining a little extra light on these songs. Call it our 12 days of Christmas gifts to these artists. Enjoy! Day #10 Artist: [...]
On Saturday, Janelle Monáe teamed up with Stevie Wonder for this stunning rendition of "My Cherie Amour” at the 15th annual House Full of Toys Benefit concert in Los Angeles. Before the year's end, she'll open for Prince at Madison Square Garden. Maybe we spoke too soon .
Photo Credit luz.de.marfilToday I’m bringing you Part 2 of Loose Lips’ 2010 Wrap-Up/’Other’ Best, but these songs are of a bit different nature than those I posted yesterday. After recent repeated journeys through my music library, I realized I hadn’t posted nearly enough of the instrumental music I loved this year. In fact, according to Loose Lips’ archives I hardly posted any. Consequently,

Janelle Monae - Oh, Maker Coming to Janelle Monáe with complete clarity, as if she were merely plucked from the very skies above us, it’s a troubling task to repress hearing in her music the trembling purity of the Mamas & The Papas, the grit-like foundation of anything and everything Alicia Keys may do right, the hopeful pacifism of a Sam Cooke, or the expressive bellowing of a younger Mariah Carey – when she had credibility, maybe. This is an almost four-minute chest of strictly sumptuous music with soft delivery and exact production that [...]
Amanda and I have each prepped our lists of the 32 best songs of the year, as defined by our impeccable tastes. Instead of blathering on and on and forcing you to come back each day to see the subsequent portions of the list, we are taking the best annual contest currently in existence (NCAA [Read Full Post...]

Melon’s favorite songs of 2010 (in no particular order). I will admit, I’ve been a bit behind on the music scene in the past few months (no snark comments Basil!). I am sure a few more songs will occur to me after I post this. Until then, enjoy! The National - Conversation 16 Janelle Monae - Tightrope Big Boi - Shutterbug Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man The Walkmen - Stranded [...]
Wednesday, December 15, 2010 Brad's Top 10 Albums Of 2010 10. This group’s sense of quirk added to their cutesy, loveable folk made it hard for me to not to place this group among my favorites of the year. It’s music that’s warm and approachable, and I quickly made friends with this album. : Freelance Whales - Hannah : 09. While Archandroid was lesser than what I [...]

"When sober girls around me, they be actin' like they drunk." Who can't relate to a line like that? It exudes confidence, makes you feel good. In fact, you won't find many disagreeing that "Like a G63 was the feel good hit of the summer. If Far East Movement isn't on your iPod, you're lying to yourself, because it may be silly, but heck if it isn't irresistible. Don't get us wrong; we acknowledge that whatever hit blew up on radio in a given year isn't necessarily among the best songs in that year. [...]
Top 21? But weren't there 25 last year ? Well yes. And it was only 15 the year before that . In case you haven't noticed, we're not that rigid around here - all we really care about is letting you know what we're loving right now and that's about it. If we only fall for one record next year then you can probably expect "WiAC's Top 1 Album of 20113. It'll be a good one, though. We promise. That said, this year was a great year for music. But it was great in a different [...]

I'm trying to find my peace I was made to believe there's something wrong with me And it hurts my heart Lord have mercy, ain't it plain to see? This is a cold war You better know what you're fighting for This is a cold war Do you know what you're fighting for? mp3: Janelle Monae -- Cold War (The ArchAndroid, 2010) [...]
It's time for more end-of-year lists! It's been another busy year for me, but I've managed to see lots of great live shows. I figured out that well over half of the artists that made it onto my favorite albums of the year list I saw in concert, which I suppose is a pretty good thing. I chose the 15 shows of 2010 that I loved the most for this list. Make sure to visit the musicforants.com flickr page to check out all my concert pictures from this year. 15. Tokyo Police [...]

Wednesday, December 1, 2010 And it continues. Below you'll find the third part of my favorite songs list. As usual, every downloadable track posted throughout the week comes from the pool of nearly 500 that I shared over the last 11 months. Also, just so you know, this list is not exactly a good representation of my top albums of 2010 (I'll divulge those next week). Enjoy. - 30 Through 21 - 30) : Nocando - Hurry [...]
Sometimes my reading lists can be a bit on the heavy side. I've spent the last three months with my nose in books about nuclear missiles, submarines, shaky foreign relations, one-sided arms agreements, and things that could eventually result in the end of the world. And what with the recent events in Korea and the " missile " sighting here in California, I figured a playlist is in order. Something to burn and place in your bomb shelter alongside canned goods and water. mp3: Janelle Monae - Cold War [...]

I journeyed out of the YTC universe for a couple weeks to tackle some CMA Awards duties, but I’m back to bring you our adventures from Voodoo Fest in New Orleans. I had been dying to go to New Orleans for a long time, and this festival, which takes place over Halloween weekend seemed like the perfect opportunity. We didn’t have a plan, finalizing our escape a day before everything was scheduled to start. We knew that we would miss most of the first day, but we felt making the trip was still worth it. The [...]

![Of Montreal / Janelle Monáe [The Warfield, San Francisco 10.29.2010]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2963879_lg.jpg)
by Rebecca Gayle This year’s Halloween weekend festivities kicked off with spirit and pizzazz, with Janelle Monáe and Of Montreal playing an unforgettable show at one of San Francisco’s most classic venues, the Warfield. With Janelle Monáe opening, sauntering down the packed space of the Warfield slightly late for the evening’s opener – a tardiness that is often forgivable or even preferred, depending on the event and the concertgoer – only served as a disservice to the listener, as Monáe’s soulful pipes and theatrical [...]
