Photos by G. Dick Cavett and Raquel Welch On February 11, 2012 when singer Whitney Houston was breaking on through to the other side at one of my old haunts in Los Angeles, 3000 miles away in New York, history was also being made - but on a happier note. All weekend at the Walter Reade Theatre, the Film Society at Lincoln Center has been paying tribute to one of the goddesses of the silver screen - Raquel Welch. When Raquel was getting her start in [...]

We've all heard the accusations, especially with older religious groups, that Rock n' Roll is the Devil's music. We've shrugged that off over the years and even evangelical Christian Rock groups have taken to the sound. But they not have been far off the mark if you believe in legends and have an open mind. If you are a music lover, musician, and are open minded, I invite you to take the time and listen to a legend. The legend of the beginning of Rock and Roll! Robert Johnson was a poor, African American man, born [...]

Formerly The Shakes, Alabama Shakes from Athens, Alabama are poised to knock you for a loop like a Mint Julep going straight to your head on a sweltering summer's day. A four-piece made up of Steve Johnson, Zac Cockrell, Heath Fogg, and [...]

A Los Angeles teenager when the monumental festival took place, it had a profound impact on him, even [...]
This playlist reflects the mood I'm in for today; something a little more visceral, emphasis on all things moving and upbeat
Every April...us old dudes who still own record players crowd around record stores to pay a lot of money for limited edition colored vinyls with one extra track. But Christmas has come early this year. The wonderful folks at RSD have a new day for us...like a teaser trailer for spring's epic event. Black Friday features a much smaller amount of releases but some exclusive and exciting ones
She did this in 1969 Woodstock.

![[Listen] – Alabama Shakes – "I Found You"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3823417_lg.jpg)
Tweet " I Found You " from Alabama Shakes is more than just some 602s soul/502s blues throwback, it's more like Ruth Brown meets James Brown with a slight hint of The Starlighters mixed in and there's a difference between the two. It's one thing to be able to throw bands like that in as references, it's another all together that the first time this song came on I was asking myself, "Wasn't this song playing [...]

This episode focuses on the life and death of Janis Joplin, the undisputed queen of rock and roll. It explores how her drug addiction and a cut of nearly pure heroin took her from the throne to her grave. Read more »

Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) was an American singer, songwriter, painter, dancer and music arranger. She rose to prominence in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company and later as a solo artist with her backing groups, The Kozmic Blues Band and The Full Tilt Boogie Band. At the height of her career she was known as The Queen of Rock and Roll as well as The Queen of Psychedelic Soul. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Joplin number 46 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All [...]

Today we lost one of the all time great Rock Photographers, Barry Feinstein at the age of 80. While I admittedly know very little of the man, his iconic images have loomed very large on me over the years. In a remarkably prolific career, the man Dylan on his first electric tour, George Harrison right after the Beatles split, and Janis Joplin the night before she overdosed. Below are a few of my favorite shots from one of the best to ever do it. Rest in Peace old friend! [...]
It does make me feel good y'all...

Today I've got a real sick single from G-Eazy, the Cali based rapper who brought you one of the best mixtapes of the year so far, The Endless Summer is back with another track with the same vibe. It's got a classic sample feel, mixed with his unique flow, always smooth. The story he tells in the song is much deeper than what most rappers manage to tell these days. The point he makes is a good one. Whether we come from money or not we all want it. It's refreshing to hear about the struggle for money, [...]
Chill beat, sit, relax, enjoy G Eazy - Mercedes Benz (The American Dream) ft. Janis Joplin
All these artists have been featured on BtB before and all have immense talent that will take them places in the future. G-Eazy put this track out a couple days ago which samples Janis Joplin. I like how he continues to sample classic music that has shaped the music that came after it. Eazy's a throwback [...]
