![[MP3] new Jape: “The Oldest Mind”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3685836_lg.jpg)
I'm going to Dublin in October for (what I think) is Ireland's version of SXSW, so when this track by Irish artist Jape appeared in my inbox last week I had to spin it. I don't know much about the band other than it's the side project of musician Richie Egan and they've been around since 2003, oh.. and they sound awesome: "The Oldest Mind" drifts along with haunting vocals and well placed guitar riffs, so soft and delicate in their placement this would be more of slipper-gaze than shoegaze. A few [...]
Grab the epic/sublime/euphoric 1st track taken from Jape's new album, Ocean of Frequency, out on 09.30 via the newly founded music/is/for/losers label. "The Oldest Mind" |... **Summary** Go to website for downloads, videos & more.

Our first delivery from Parker's Choro-Flora arrived promptly in it's greasy wooden crate sometime before 8am. It's sides straining with the weight of soil and soundproof packing material. We'd spent nearly all of our accumulated Altered Zones money (which had lain dormant in a Swiss account for just such an occasion) on this particular plant and anticipation was high. You see, the beauty of the botany supplied by Parker's Choro-Flora was that - after many years of selective breeding - the plants had been finally taught to emit what, to our narrowly focused ears, could be best described [...]

The UK has been producing a lot of promising electro acts these last couple of years and yet another has sprung to my attention. Jape is the alter-ego of former Redneck Manifesto member, Richie Egan. Ocean Of Frequency , arrives September 30th and if this song is any indicator, it shows a lot of promise. The Oldest Mind While many bands have come and gone over the years, it [...]
A while back I shared some great tracks from Jape (Richie Egan from Redneck Manifesto. At the time his songs were carrying their own weight just fine. Now, we've got a terrific full-length album to back them up! Everything that I loved about those first two Jape songs I heard last May bleeds through beautifully [...]

Slowed and subtle, the first track to come from Jape 's new record Ocean Of Frequency (released on music/is/for/losers on September 30) "The Oldest Mind" is what we'd imagine to happen if you cherry-picked the best of the aughts' tropicalia and neu-Balearic beat tunes and stuttered them alongside a ragged copy of your favorite mid-1980s New Romantic gem album. Or, at least we'd like to say that the sense of glee and glory and euphoria from the song--which can't seem to stop building until it finally breaks--is something you won't soon find anywhere else. The Dublin act [...]

Richard Egan a.k.a Jape who recently appeared on Nite Versions with his remix for And So I Watch You From Afar, unveils a new song called "The Oldest Mind". The track will be included on his forthcoming fourth studio album, "Ocean Of Frequency", due out September 30. Jape - The Oldest Mind Download

This calls for a celebration. Richie Egan is back, even though he never really left. A member of The Redneck Manifesto , he certainly cannot be accused of resting on his laurels. Even though his band released their first album in six years last year (the excellent ‘Friendship’), Egan is still firing on all cylinders and has now properly made his return as Jape . ‘The Oldest Mind’ , which is available for free, is the first proper taste of his fourth album ‘Ocean of Frequency’, out October 3rd, and is [...]

Last week, Jape announced details of Ocean Of Frequency , the fourth album by Richie Egan and friends is due on September 30th via Music Is For Losers . The Double A-side 'Hands Of Fire' and 'Lying On A Deathbed’ showed two distinct facets of the Jape sound: pop-orientated and folk. 'The Oldest Mind' meanwhile forges into new more electronic terroritory. It's a complete immersive electronic ballad with some Balearic tones and big '80s ambience. Jape plays Electric Picnic on Saturday (Electric Arena, 5.15pm) and Richie and Mattie play as Visionair [...]
After the free download of 'Hands Of Fire' and 'Lying On A Deathbed', which won acclaim from all corners of Ireland - from those on the internet and who listen to good music anyway - we get a taster of Jape's third album Ocean Of Frequency. It's out at the [Read more]

Three years after grabbing the Irish album of the year award at the Choice Music Prize, Dublin based electronic pop outfit Jape is back with their fourth studio album entitled Ocean of Frequency . We were lucky enough to get an exclusive premiere of the very first peak at the album which is due to September 30th, via our friends at music/is/for/losers , whom also happen to have a Sun Glitters EP in the oven for us later this fall. "The Oldest Mind" is an euphoric and glitchy harmony particularly fitted for late summer [...]
Jape has remixed And So I Watch You From Afar’s new single taken from the exceptional Gangs, ’7 Billion People All Alive at Once’. It is a very different remix from Jape, in fact, it has been reworked it into a pretty indistinguishable dance number with only mere echoes of the original coming through. '7 Billion People All Alive At Once’ [...]
Photography: Katrina Leno It grabbed by attention due to the amazing Jape remix, but actually the original indie-rock version is thoroughly enjoyable as well. Sadly, I can't put up these for download, but their greatness should easily counterweight this inconvenience, not to mention that you can purchase ASIWYFA ’s single for no more than the price of a cup of coffee, here ! Jape's forthcoming fourth album Ocean Of Frequency will be released on Friday September 30th on music/is/for/losers . The album is supposedly inspired by Prefab Sprout, The Microphones, Caribou and Brian Eno solo records on Island Records and is called "the finest collection of twisted pop songs you’re likely to encounter this side of the 80s," in the press release. “I had thought that the follow up to Ritual was finished about three times so far, but I kept getting drawn back to writing more and more songs, trying to push [...]

You know that cliché, the one that goes "maybe, I'll finally get to work on that novel"? That's me. I sometimes say that, and sometimes think I mean it too. My novel, if I ever write it, will be pitched at teenagers, and will feature evil birds (the ones that walk, such as magpies and crows), good birds (the ones that hop, such as thrushes and wagtails), an ancient Irish supernatural force, the trapped faces of people knotted into a tree trunk, and two teens who spend a wet November in Bundoran during the nineties. Pretty sweet [...]
