Long time no see, we've been busy over here but also I'm not entirely into writing about stuff we don't like! Thanks for stickin' by, we got a ton of music for you coming this next week. Before we head out, I wanted to let you know about Jared Mees & The Grown Children and their Caffeine, Alcohol, Sunshine, Money album rolling out next week! Like everyone else I really enjoy Jared's songwriting. It's playful and folky pop with everyone joining in on the chorus. Check out their CD release [...]

The brainchild of songwriter/composer Jared Mees, "The Grown Children" is the catch-all name for the current amalgamation of players collaborating with Mees on recordings or on stage. The first incarnation of The Grown Children was born of a Panamanian Island, where Mees, his wife (and Tender Loving Empire co-founder) Brianne and two friends wrote the bulk of the songs that would eventually become Mees' first solo effort. "This Is How We Do It In Fresno" - BKF Jordan Dykstra reports: We played in Merced, CA at the venue called The Partisan. The vibe was wooden on the outside and very mellow on the in. We got burritos across the street and then Sean and I walked for about half an hour to find some delicious blue Spirits cigs, but no one had 'em. Defeated, we settled on a dirty-ass six-dollar pack of camel lights. The show started around showtime. Portlander Allison Milham opened up for Brian Kenny Fresno! and played some [...]

I've said it before, and I'm saying it again: Jared Mees is one of the best songwriters in Portland. And this track from his upcoming release, Caffeine, Alcohol, Sunshine, Money (which is set to drop October 7 on his own Tender Loving Empire), does nothing to dissuade me from this stance. Which is saying a lot, considering he's employing something I've started to think is ruining a lot of good pop bands: strings. "Bees," as well as another sneak peak Mees sent LocalCut's way (a rad shout-along number called "The Tallest Building In Hell") are speckled [...]
