It fit my post-Vikings beat-down perfectly. Jarrod enlisted Nicole Atkins for a perfectly written vocal duet. Someday I would like to write a song like this.

It would be easy, having been a fan of The Honorary Title, to spend a whole review comparing Jarrod Gorbel's solo material to his old work as part of the band. I will do my best to refrain. Jarrod Gorbel's work as a solo artist is not far from his previous project, except with a folky twang. The stage set-up included a violinist and back-up vocalist Abby and keyboard player Dustin. Gorbel's voice fills a room and soars with all it's imperfections, pleading each word in songs like "Desperate Hands" and "Miserable Without You." Always a trademark of [...]

I'm a big advocate for opening acts: get to the show on time and you may see your new favorite band. I know- sometimes the night/day/week has been long and you just want to slide in in time to see the main act. I'm guilty of this myself sometimes. However, I'm really happy I got to the Larimer Lounge Tuesday night in time to catch Jarrod Gorbel . I was unfamiliar with Jarrod's work, so his music was a pleasant surprise. I was planning to check out Mr. Gorbel when I got home due [...]

Illustration by Derek Eads I was a huge Honorary Title fan. As in, the anthem of my freshman year of college summer. Big time! Well, just as so many bands do, they broke up, and now lead singer Jarrod Gorbel is doing his own thing. The new material is definitely different; a move away from indie pop towards folk-inspired pop. Regardless, you're still getting the [...]

Wherever you will be, that's where I call home. Each Breath by Jarrod Gorbel
1. Oh No! Yoko- 90s kids every ounce of me wants to hate this song but i can't.Just like riding a razor scooter you know how it looks to others and you know not all of your friends are going to understand but that doesn't matter because it just feels right 2. acid house kings-are we lovers or are we friends? Before heading down to bloomington last week I was making up a mix for my brother and originally slated this as track one. Then after wise considerations scratched it [...]

Does anyone know what happened to those heart-shaped Mickey Mouse lollipops? I've had this goddamn craving for them ever since CVS started stocking Valentine's Day crap in every aisle. They were the perfect sucker, too. Cherry-flavored and cartoon-adorned. They weren't a bitch to open, either. As a kid, they were the best thing to what I considered a crappy holiday. Odds are they probably don't even make them anymore. Nowadays - you know, as adults - we don't really have those things to hold onto, especially on days like February 14th. As kids, we were sort of forced [...]

I'll Do Better - Jarrod Gorbel I'll Do Better - Jarrod Gorbel ( Buy ) Jarrod Gorbel's solo album Devil's Made a New Friend shows a more personal side of the former front man of The Honorary Title . Going solo suits Gorbel well as he embarks upon a folk sound that makes his voice sound incredibly raw throughout all of the tracks. The distinct vocals found in The Honorary Title are still noticeably consistent within the album. Re-living the days of growing up, "I'll Do Better" seems [...]
