Re-up for aggregation... Clearly you can't compare a compilation with a single release like the astounding Peregrine . But even if it necessarily lacks the same coherence & singular artistic vision the new Experimedia label sampler (which includes a chunk of Lawrence English 's instant classic, incidentally) is still one of my albums of the year. I don't even know if the sampler 'exists' as a formal release. Perhaps its only life is digital - as an online [...]

The Silent Ballet reviews Jasper TX 's latest album "The black sun transmissions" : http://thesilentballet.com/dnn /Home/tabid/36/ctl/Details/mid /384/ItemID/4424/Default.aspx
After months and months of scrolling through the muddle that is my RSS feed, I finally weeded out a bunch of blogs that I realize I'm just never interested in, and I also created a new sub-category for "trustworthy sources," which are the six or so blogs that, for me, consistently display solid taste. Now it's a lot easier for me to make sure I don't scroll past those posts that have a high chance of scratching my itch. For most of the tracks below, I've included my source; if you like what you hear, check those links for more [...]
Sorry for the lack of updates this weekend. Time Warner conveniently decided that because we transferred our cable bill from one roommate to another roommate, they should kill our Internet connection. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense, right? You transfer the account from one name to another name, why shouldn't they send [...]
Oh folks. There are good times to be had, and I am making damned sure that I have each and every one. Last night was no exception. After finishing off the last of my Oinkster burger I took a quick disco nap and then headed over to West Hollywood to party with some friends. Unspeakable [...]
Fluid Radio reviews the new Jasper TX album "The black sun transmissions" : http://www.fluid-radio.co.uk/2 011/05/jasper-tx-the-black-sun -transmissions/

Defying that rule about the day of rest , Jasper TX 's The Black Sun Transmissions finally dragged itself into some sort of light of day on Sunday via Fang Bomb . No doubt it's another brilliant piece of intense, textured Nordic rattle 'n' rumble - the murky Morse-ings of the opening Signals Through Wood & Dust (stream below) suggest as much. But it'll be [...]

"You're wearing red. I'm wearing red. Coincidence? I don't think so." Three exceptional new pieces surface in SoundCloud within minutes of each other - leaving me musing idly about a Jasper TX / Erstlaub / John Chantler supergroup (a prog crime that I seem willing to tolerate, even laud, in more experimental contexts). While that liaison seems remote, even if each o ther's [...]

Hailed 12 months ago as our 'new discovery' label of 2009 , Low Point is LMYE's label of the year after a near-flawless septet of releases that refined its traditional aesthetic to new levels of intensity & beauty, & moved beyond it with an invigorating boldness . W hat started life five years ago as a vehicle for Gareth Hardwick (both solo & as Bologna Pony ) ends 2010 [...]

Merry Christmas, Everybody. The pictures and video from last night's shenanigans are beginning to filter in, very slowly, so you'll have to wait to see the really good stuff. The night turned into a shit-show very early. There was me, the mouse. There was Tom, the lion. There were two pixies with LED lights and tiny stereo speakers on their wings. There was Zach in a cow hat, Pat in a rabbit mask, Ken, Katie, Arthur, Kelsie, Autumn, Shaun, Erin, and probably others I'm forgetting. We started our pub crawl in the Los Feliz neighborhood, at Ye Rustic Inn. My [...]

A sort of scrapbook of new treasures, & a kind of mix - an LMYE-curated selection sifted out of our SoundCloud (one of them, anyway) over the past couple of days & stuck up as an experiment (in capture, in non-writing, in satisfaction, in limits)... I30 > Live at Triple [...]

Typical. You wait months for a new Simon Scott record, only for three to turn up in convoy...in the space of a few days, a contrasting trio of releases linked by their evident sincerity, their richness of detail & depth - an immense, hugely subtle soundtrack collaboration with Dag Rosenqvist (aka Jasper TX : [...]

Besides Jasper TX 's enduring depth & subtlety, the loveliness of Mute Harbour (stream all 20 hissy, blissy minutes of it, both the filigreed first part & the chiming, tingling second, below) underlines once again how impressive Jonathan Lees' Hibernate Records , its subscription sister Rural Colours & the Hebden Bridge shows all are: some proper coverage to follow when I work out how to do justice to all that... [...]
For the last week I have taken your hand and dragged you along for a stroll down memory lane. Together we have recapped my most successful Sunday Mix Tapes. The next new one will be number 200, you know. But that probably won't happen for a while, because I'm flying into Newark airport tomorrow to spend the next two weeks in the New York/New Jersey area. My goal is to enjoy rest and relaxation in the company of old friends. Maybe I'll even make some new friends! What say you, Magic 8-ball? Outlook not so good? Fuck you! [...]

Slightly astounded to discover the wholly astounding Jasper TX has never graced LMYE before - though he was named in our recent 'emerging' artists top 10 (exemplifying the caveat that most of those ranked did their emerging some years ago...) & his Sky featured in a post last summer (& then amended here )... Ultra train-spotters will also want to note that he's on a Simon Scott track upped here not so long ago . But as a [...]
It has been a very strange - sometimes fun, sometimes agonizing - week. I don't really have much else to say. Here's your Sunday Mix Tape. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. Of course there's a fucking theme [...]
Good Sunday, all. A very good Sunday if you're looking forward to the summer months, I suppose, but here in Southern California there isn't really anything that exciting (or even noticeable most of the time) about changing weather and seasons. While there's certainly a difference between cloudy/cool and sunny/warm, those are pretty much the only two "days" that we experience all year. Maybe your Sunday was good for another reason? Did your local sports team win a big game? Did your significant other buy you a gift? Did your parents finally decide to get off your back, even [...]
It's been seven months since we said goodbye to The Best Podcast You Have. On Monday May 7th, 2007 (my first full day in Los Angeles - coincidence?) Jack offered the final episode of his Circulations Amethyst series, entitled "The Night We Called It A Day." Now, Podcast Jack has returned with his newest incarnation of his pet project (now with fancy website !). The first episode is available as a video file on Jack's website. It features some cool music and two brief images of yours truly. In fact, I open and [...]
Nicci's workplace had their annual Christmas Party at Malo tonight, which meant a couple hours of heavenly eating and drinking. Right now I am full of carnitas, potato and eggplant tacos, beef and pickle tacos and chicken/chorizo quesadillas. I could not be happier. If that restaurant wasn't so expensive (or maybe if I had a better-paying job?) I would eat there every night. Well, not every night - I'd need to eat at Qdoba and Casa Bianca and Patra, too! Hey, how about a mix tape? RULES for uninitiated noobs : With [...]
