At Strøm, Friday marks the end of all the meta-musical events and the beginning of the festival's cornerstone concerts at Enghaveparken. For the always compelling price of nothing, Copenhagen's music enthusiasts are invited to join the fun with acts like Jatoma, Egyptrixx, Space Dimension Controller, and Pional playing sets in the evening hours. For an artist with only a few buzzed-about releases, Lone had accumulated a surprising amount of hype for his Strøm appearance. Surprising mainly because his music is vastly different from most of the other acts on the bill. But then again, there isn't a [...]
The following is my guide to all the wonderful events taking place during the Strøm 2011. I'll be writing about various happenings on here as well as on the official Strøm blog , so expect a lot of crossposting (and great music!). Morten from Regnsky will cover the other half of the festival on that blog, too, so there should be plenty of exciting things happening throughout the week. I wonder how we ever get anything done. Admittedly, it's summertime and things are pretty quiet at the moment, but look at all those [...]

My blogging hiatus has been longer than what I initially planned. I wish I could say that I was out exploring the festival circuit. Sipping drinks at Primavera, bouncing around at Sonar, enjoying the sun at Coachella. Sadly, I didn't do any of those. But then again, finishing my exams and moving most of my stuff back to Denmark for the summer probably counts as a legitimate excuse. Excuses aside, I'm ready to embark on a few months of festival fun. While I missed this year's Distortion extravaganza (which was, apparently, extravagant in every sense of the word), [...]

Some of the best electronic music is that which balances the shadowy and the luminous: with light and delicate flourishes matched by a deep and dark low end, Jatoma's eponymous release on Kompakt is an enjoyable frolic through all manner of strange tones, buzzes and beats. The peculiarity of the noises gives the album an abstract feel, yet in such a way that's resolutely intelligible throughout. Highlights include 'Dust in Wong' with its filtered guitars and the gratifying disintegration of its finale; the clacking and bestial throb of 'Bou'; the melodic rave stabs, squelches and marching beats of [...]
Aboombong - Asynchronic (Self released) Never Been to Konono June 20, 2009: Four revered avant garde genres - Drone, Freejazz, Musique concrète and Krautrock - set out into the heart of Central Africa armed with nothing but DAT recorders to make an audio documentary on the lost land of Konono. June 22, 2009: Local witnesses reported they saw the genres wandering around the city of Kinshasa. They were asking for a place called Konono, but [...]

Leo Zero , never one to shy away from handing out hoards of goodies, a while back offered up 'This Is God' from his album 'Acid Life', a homage to all things acid house. Unsurprisingly this track features the acid staple: a squelching, squirming 303 line. This wriggles around uncontrollably amidst excitable 909 patterns and high-pitched squarks. Great fun. (I've converted this to mp3 but if you want the original wav file head to Leo Zero's Soundcloud ): Leo Zero - This Is God [...]

This is LWE's last Download of the Week post until 2011 so we figured it was time to share a bunch of goodies that might otherwise languish on our hard drives. We've also rounded up our 10 favorite LWE-hosted downloads from 2010 at the bottom of the post. Escort, "Cocaine Blues" This one has been floating around for a while but it's too good to ignore. Escort have always been among the best of those seeking to emulate and reinterpret classic dance music/funk sounds and [...]

2010 is coming to a close. It hit me when I found out my office holiday party is scheduled for this Saturday and that usually means Christmas is around the corner. It was at this same time that I realized I had done zero Christmas shopping. I drove by a mall the other day, and the mayhem in the parking lot freaked me out. I think this might be a year where everybody gets a gift card. You know, the kind that you get at the grocery store at the check out stand. Either that, or I might [...]

Up-and-coming electronic trio Jatoma haven't revealed their names to the press, and their record label have been dropping unsubtle hints that at least one member is also involved in a better known band. Unless their self-titled debut album is the result of a secret collaboration between Richard D James, Thom Yorke and Andre 3000, I quite frankly couldn't care less who was involved in its production. The music's the important thing. It's fortunate, then, that Jatoma are pretty good at the whole 'making music' lark, and have created a record of expertly moulded, lovingly crafted IDM. [...]
