It's a new year and a lot of good stuff piled up over the holidays. Considering it's the 18th Digest, today is the 18th (close enough...), and I have 18 tracks, I think this is some kind of perfect Digest or something. Dig in. But really, dig. There are some real gems in the mix down there. For more by any of these artists use the 'tags' links at the bottom of the post! NEW RELEVENT JAMS ♫ Passion Pit - All These [...]

One of my favorite songs of 2009 gets covered by the amazing Javier Dunn. Enjoy
READER'S DIGESTVOL. 16First, let's talk about the usual. This past week the most downloaded song was Javier Dunn's cover of the Miike Snow hit, "Animal". You can download it here, or down below along with the rest of the digest! Second, let's talk about the contest! We've had many good submissions so far, however we'd love more! For example, we've had people draw Iron & Wine with a iron pouring

Another short one. Sorry. I'm exhausted after a long week of livin' hard. Tracklisting: Adele - Rolling in the Deep Belle & Sebastian - Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John (Feat. Norah Jones) Cadilac Sky - Hangman Everest - Let Go (Album Version) Javier [...]

We're going the soothing route today with this post...so if you say that you don't listen to soft shit then move along. Both of these capture my exact mood right now, as the weekend approaches. Javier comes out of LA, and seems to have the easy-going/take-a-breather sound down perfectly. Apparently he used to make some music with Sara Bareilles, who has since popped off onto the mainstream. Check out his cover of Miike Snow's "Animal", and his original track, "If You Go". Download: Javier Dunn - Animal (Cover) Download: [...]

Doing a cool, calm, and mature cover of an otherwise electro-pop song like "Animal" is not a task that many would take. But taking cues from Jónsi's "Go Quiet" album, Javier Dunn managed to minimalize the otherwise synthesized instrumentation of Miike Snow, and turn it into a beautiful, relaxing, yet remarkably sad song. Much like the work of aforementioned Jónsi, the song deceptively hides it's sadness in the beauty of composition and delightful vocals. Javier Dunn - Animal (Miike Snow Cover)

JAVIER DUNNThis dude, Javier Dunn, has taken the solid indie-dance hit of Miike Snow and makes it his own with a toned down, soft-spoken version. It makes me smile, but peacefully. Imagine, just barely recognizing something you've heard before, but in a way that is oh so pleasant. Give it an ear. indie folk // singer songwriter Javier Dunn may be an unfamiliar name to most, but the singer-songwriter has years of experience under his belt. The Los Angeles-based songwriter has been playing guitar since he was 10, put out his first full-length album in 2006, and has been playing guitar with Sara Bareilles since their days at UCLA. Despite spending an incredible amount of time on the road as part of Sara's band, he's managed to release another EP, Vessel , earlier this year. The new EP features "If You Go," an folk-pop [...]

At first, Ho-Ho-Tel seems like any other singer-songwriter showcase. There are lots of girls wearing flannel and guys in women's jeans, but what's surprising, and wonderful, about this night is the level of talent exhibited onstage.
