We're nothing but good ol'dais music and things that may or may not have been directly influenced by Malcolm McLaren. I'd say yea. Fingerbanger Bukakke : Leftfield - Not Forgotten (Hard Hands Mix) (don lowed) -- This song has been about 50% of everything I've been listening to for the past week. The other 50% is my inner voice telling me to stop staring at asses in yoga pants. Fingerbanger Bukakke : Blunted Dummies - House For All (Original Mix) (don lowed) [...]

Set for release in just under two weeks time is the three track 'Pulsate' EP from Jaydee . Featuring the original + remixes from Maceo Plex and Steve Rachmand (& Jaydee's 'Mainstage Remix' on digital release), this is an EP to get excited about . The original mix of Pulsate is packed full of booming bass and a euphoric synth, accompanied with some well placed effects that serve to create a moody atmosphere in this techno piece. As if the original didn't give this EP enough oomph, the Maceo Plex remix is thrown in there for good measure. You can [...]
No need to caption this bomb. J Dilla , RIP, was a legend who needs no introduction. The master of the MPC gets busy on his remake of 1979’s Gary Numan hit “Cars”, which he titles “Trucks”.

The Dutch legend that is Jaydee produced some of the most iconic sounds of the emerging acid house scene with the pinnacle the being the epic "Plastic Dreams". Well none other than Maceo Plex has decided to revive some of those classic sounds on his own Ellum label. Being a big fan of the tune "Payback", Mr Plex has given it a spring clean. Not only that we also have the original brilliance of "Pulsate" on the EP as well as Steve Rachmad adding the double Dutch flavour with [...]

This preview of the slamming new EP out on Ellum Audio by Jaydee is just what we hve been looking for in techno. We don't know too much about Jaydee except that he shares the same label home as Maceo Plex , Danny Daze , and their funk outfit Jupiter Jazz , but we kind of like that it's more about the music then anything else! The great original track Pulsate and the remixes all do something a little different; and are all dance floor bangers. My [...]
I had been increasingly frustrated with ill-fitting spot I used to stash my LPs. The only record rack I liked online was $168, which is pretty steep for me, since I'm a writer earning writerly wages. All the other options were dingy wire contraptions. Milk crates is one irrevocable step into hipsterdom I'm not especially eager to make. So I spent most of my day off driving around - to thrift stores, to Best Buy, to Target - trying to see if anywhere else sold something that would work. They do not. Also, fun fact, [...]
[There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.] Fuse's Crate Diggers pays special extra homage to the greatest of em all! No need for more verbage... get to watching!

I'm a huge fan of Fuse's Crate Diggers series. Today, a very special edition of the show has been released, featuring J Dilla's record collection. Not too long ago, word broke out that a record store owner in Detroit had bought a storage unit filled with records that turned out to belong to the late J Dilla. Rather than selling the collection for personal gain, the new owner reached out to the Yancey estate to see how they could benefit from this discovery. For the first time ever, we the public get to see what's inside of that [...]

I didn't grow up with the luxury of having someone near and dear to me who could properly school me on hip-hop. Sure, my older brother, Tim, had great music taste and introduced me to stuff like The Chronic in 1993, which confused the hell out of my 8-year-old self. "What is chronic?" I can remember asking him, only to receive a shrugged-shoulders response and probably a lil' punch in the arm. But when I heard the music, the beats, the mostly indecipherable (to a kid, at least) lyrics, I was hooked. You could say that Dre introduced me to [...]

Since 2006, the shortest month of the year gained another layer of significance. February holds, in its scant 28 days, James Yancey's birthday and the day he left this realm. There are no shortage of words on the Internet to describe Jay Dee aka J Dilla's mastery, influence and importance in modern music. I won't go into that here. Instead I'll just share the trite meme that's spread across the globe in seven short years: he changed my life. I wouldn't have met important people in my life or had important experiences if it were not for the legacy of a [...]

The J Dilla news just doesn't end, and I'm loving it. Earlier today, it was revealed that a "new" album made up of the producer and rapper's work from the early 2000s, titled The Diary , is soon on its way. The posthumous release will consist of entirely vocal tracks featuring Jay Dee, compared to the albums made up of Dilla beats that we've mainly heard since his death. The first taste of The Diary is the single, " Anthem ". Starting off with a verse from Dilla himself, [...]

In honor of his life, today we get "Anthem" featuring Frank N Dank, produced by J Dilla. Mixed and mastered from the original 2-inch tape (early 20002s vibe) . 12-inch clear vinyl to be released on Pay Jay Productions, Spring 2013.
Dilla’s bday was yesterday. RIP to a legend of music and my instrument of choice the MPC.

Today not only marks the year anniversary of The Record Stache , it also happens to be the late, great J Dilla 's birthday. He would have been 39 today. The upcoming February 10th marks another big day, when Dilla passed away in 2006 from a rare blood disease. There's an argument given by some Dilla fans that believe his work shouldn't be messed with, or remixed, or resampled. I understand that these fans want to respect Jay Dee's legacy, but when you think about it, that's exactly how the man made his own music. His [...]

It's February, that means that it's officially Dilla time of the year! To start the month of celebration and memorial off on a good foot, the Yancey Media Group has released The Lost Scrolls Vol. 1 through Delicious Vinyl. Chances are, if you're a Dilla fanatic, you've somewhat heard the material here. Much of the music that makes up The Lost Scrolls Vol. 1 has, in some way or another, been chopped up and pasted or resampled into some of J Dilla's posthumous releases. They've also [...]
