Yellow Bird Project has created a great new t-shirt as a memento in memory of Jay Reatard (1980-2010). Drawn in detail using a black pen on A2 paper, this design depicts a Gibson Flying V; one of Jay's trademark guitars. The brand name has been taken off the headstock and replaced with the initials 'JR'. The Flying V is a powerful symbol used to embody Jay, his life, and his music. You can pick the shirt up for just $30 at Yellow Bird . Check out what the shirt looks like below. Read more »
Jay Reatard was the stage name of Jimmy Lindsey Jr. who recorded music thru the 902s and early 20002s with the bands The Reatards and Lost Sounds. Under the moniker of Jay Reatard, he would find critical praise and a rising level of success before his untimely death in 2010, attributed to a drug overdose on cocaine. Today marks the two-year anniversary of the demise of Jay Reatard, but his music lives on and continues to be discovered posthumously by many fans of punk, garage, and indie rock music. After the break up of both The Reatards [...]

Thanks to a long night and two full bags of candy, I've put together my finest collection of Hallowe'en anthems yet, primed for later tonight or the weekend, wether you're prepping your gory zombie costume or drinking Four Loko to feel like an actual zombie. Alex Hammond and Ian Markiewicz are two very driven, passionate people, prone to finishing each other's sentences and to finding closure in the stories that may otherwise never fully be told, most recently the story of Jay Reatard, the magic Memphis musical Matador madman who in 2009 commissioned these documentarians to film a short about his own life. After Jay died tragically in January 2010, Hammond and Markiewicz returned to Memphis and picked up where they left off: their labor of love, the full-length documentary Better than Something, finally premiers tonight in Los Angeles at Cinefamily as part of the [...]

Wavves - King of the Beach
The best show I have seen this year took place at the Echoplex in Los Angeles, California (Silver Lake and Echo Park area). For those not familiar with The Echo and Echoplex, you are missing out. Both music clubs predominantly highlight great independent bands and showcase amazing artists you need to know. Back on May 10 I saw a spectacular music bill featuring Andrew W.K., hardcore punk band Trash Talk and surf rock/indie band Wavves . Throughout the night all the music acts commented what a "bizarre," "unique" and "cool" lineup was performing. I couldn't agree more. [...]
