Jay Reatard died of cocaine toxicity and alcohol was a contributing factor, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports, citing autopsy results. It appears that an earlier report that his death was being investigated as a homicide was inaccurate. The Memphis paper also reports that Jay (whose real name was Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr.) was working on an album at the time of his death and that he completed at least six songs. MUSIC NEWS - Memphis's Commercial Appeal reported the results of rocker Jay Reatard's autopsy this morning. The local medical examiner's autopsy report on death of Reatard stated that he died from "cocaine toxicity, and that alcohol was a contributing factor in his death," according to Shelby County Medical Examiner Dr. Karen E. Chancellor. Reatard, 29,whose real name was Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr, was found dead in bed at his Cooper-Young home on January 13. More @ CommercialAppeal.com
The autopsy report for Jay Reatard has been released, he died of a coke overdose and the alcohol in his system probably helped it along: Spin Article While I'm sure this won't change anything in the local rock scene, it would be nice if people clued into the fact that doing a bunch of coke can kill you. According to the Commercial Appeal, autopsy results released today by Shelby County Medical Examiner Dr. Karen E. Chancellor conclude that Jay Reatard died from cocaine toxicity. The report also stated that alcohol was a "contributing factor" in the rocker's death.
