For as much as I love Jazzfinger, I really haven't shared much of the collective's recorded output in recent years. Since Slowed By The Grace Of Water in 2008, I haven't posted anything until this past week's mix tape. Too bad, the UK-based group consisting of Ben Jones, Hasan Gaylani and Sarah Sullivan has consistently [...]
Hoo boy. What a weekend. I think it might be time to swear off alcohol again. At least for a little while. Party Friday night, party Saturday night, working all the while. My bones are tired, guys. I don't know how how much you're going to get out of me tonight. Maybe I should just [...]
In celebration of the upcoming 200th Sunday Mix Tape, I've decided to spend a few days this week taking a leisurely stroll down memory lane. My memory's lane. I've compiled 199 official Sunday Mix Tapes as well as a few compilations that arrived on a Monday or other random day. It's time to take a look back and examine why this feature has become such a huge success. Since I can't post 200 MP3s this week, I'm going to list what is - in my opinion - the standout track from each installment of the series. About half [...]
right. this shite’s going to be boringly linear i’m afraid (yet all over the goddam place). first up were towering breaker. i liked the tape destruction and reeltoreel abuse, i liked the use of walkman and tables spaghettied with wires and boxes, i liked the skaters style fug and klang of metal. yr chocolate monk man [...]
I discovered Jazzfinger when I started reading the Aquarius Records new arrivals lists a few years ago, and have tried to find as many of their releases as possible. Much like Machinefabriek or Jasper TX or many of those underground ambient-noise-drone bands, their output is very consistent. They release maybe five-to-ten records a year in a good year. "What separates Jazzfinger from their peers is the way they combine multiple strands of underground music where other bands base their entire CD-R careers on one idea. Even if “View from Sea to Land” was just shopping-cart-full-of-cans percussion and shortwave [...]

MSN and Men's Health have teamed up to create a list of "18 Things A Grown Man Should Never Have" . And I think I could do better. Much better. I am, after all, the purveyor of one of the Internet's leading Top Ten-centric websites. Why I haven't received offers from various mainstream magazines to pen original Top (blank) lists is beyond me. I'm, like, the voice of a generation. But like any wunderkind, my work won't be appreciated until long after I've expired. Also, I could never work for a mainstream magazine, because I've got integrity. [...]

The heat wave continues. I spent all afternoon in the Glendale Barnes and Noble reading various texts to pass the time. The few times I stepped outside I could instantly feel the sun scorching my skin. My car's thermometer measured the air temperature at 108 degrees. I thought that was a little high, but the owner of the market around the corner from my apartment said the one in his store reached 105. I think it's supposed to continue like this for another day or two. I need to find something else to do tomorrow to occupy my mind. If [...]
I'm not even sure how to begin retelling the story of the first day of this trip. Everything started out innocently enough. I awoke long before my alarm was scheduled to sound. This could be attributed to my horribly sore muscles begging for attention, or it could be related to my long history of waking up early due to distrusting alarm clocks. Either way, I awoke an hour or two before I should have, showered, packed, and waited for Ilya to pick me up so we could head over to Steve's and begin our caravan to the bay area. [...]

In the company of friends last evening, I popped the cherry on my new deep fryer. I even made the tempura batter myself, by using a vegan recipe from the Internet that everyone could enjoy. I think it called for something like a cup of flower, teaspoons of salt and pepper, one half teaspoon of baking soda, a cup of water, and a teaspoon of vinegar. Everything we fried, with the exception of the strawberries, turned out really tasty. The strawberries just became very mushy on the inside. Although we purchased much more to fry, we did not get to [...]
