Before Other Lives comes back through Denver in March 2012 to open for Radiohead , and after I sat next to fellow Oklahoman Wayne Coyne for their midafternoon set at Sasquatch last May, you should come see them Wednesday night in Denver at the Hi-Dive. Fuel/Friends is presenting the show, and elegant, intricate favorite JBM opens, so that makes it double fantastic. WIN! I have two pairs of tickets [...]
Other Lives left the Café du Nord crowds a bit lovestruck.

When I heard that Other Lives was playing a show at the intimate Cafe du Nord venue in San Francisco, I was a little shocked. Hadn't I just seen them open for Bon Iver at the Greek Theater in Berkeley? Didn't I just get a [...]

Jesse Marchant is a Montreal born musician who puts together some of the most beautiful guitar driven arrangements that are meticulous and so well thought out. He is the kind of song-writer that will put his everything into an album and then need to take a break for awhile to digest all the emotion that went into creating these songs. This first full length album is honest and absolutely wonderful. In A Different Time - JBM Not Even In July [...]

October means we're happily knee-deep in baseball, surrounded by seasonal pumpkin ales, and, regrettably, wrist-deep in the slimy insides of jack-o-lanterns. Music has been my quiet oasis. I figure it's high time I stop futzing over my autumn mix and share it already. The fall mix is one of my favorites to make. In addition to being generally hyperaware of everything around me in life, especially subtexts and undercurrents, I notice an acute sharpening of my senses every time the seasons change. It's why I make you guys these seasonal mixes: as everything in the natural world [...]
While this might not be something you can expect to see us post regularly, I do need a break from all this hip-hoppery and electronic bleepy-bloopy every once in a while. With that said, here are the latest visuals for JBM's (Jesse B. Marchant) single, "In A Different Time", off his most recent project, Not Even In July . While the song itself is pretty damn emotional, the video unearths a profound feeling of sentiment that really makes you think how beautiful the two work together. I probably would have skipped over this video completely if I hadn't already [...]
Sometimes you just want to listen to a good ass song along with a nice video. I do believe this fits the bill. JBM (Jesse B. Marchant... but what does the B stand for?) is effing classic man... classic. Listening to this song really makes me want to hang out on the porch drinking a beer and whittling a bear out of driftwood. Now I just have to find a porch and some driftwood. If you are lucky enough to be SXSWing this week check him out... Friday, March 18th Partisan Records / KF Records / [...]

JBM has released a new video for his single In a Different Time off his recent full-length Not Even In July . Lush with beautiful, emotional imagery; summer lakes, campfires and sunsets, it will have you wondering; what's more artistically outstanding; the song or the video? The answer: they're gorgeous equals. Canadian singer-songwriter JBM (Jesse B. Marchant, for those of you who, like me, possess a compulsive need to know what initials stand for) has written an exceedingly raw, reflective album brimming with loss, loneliness, dignified hope, and quiet quests [...]
Check out the new video from JBM for song 'In A Different Time.' The footage is absolutely gorgeous, it really lends itself to the very personal sounding song. Most of the video appears to be home video footage. A very cool look and a perfect visual for his lush and haunting vocals. More JBM: http://www.jbm-music.com/
JBM is one of those bands I'm following, waiting to see what happens. I really enjoy his voice.
This is JBM's video for "In A Different Time" from his album Not Even In July (which is really great). The video was directed by Brody Baker and it was shot in Upstate New York. The song's really beautiful, as is his entire album, and I think the video suits it very well.

We've talked about The Voice Project before , and today they continue their tradition of bringing us excellent, intimate cover performances with JBM (Jesse Marchant) doing a cover of M.Ward's "Carolina." It's a touching performance of a song that Jesse says is "...just a beautiful song," as well as "one of the favorites of my mother, as well." Have a listen: JBM » M. Ward from The Voice Project on Vimeo . [...]

Halloween next week, what's everyone dressing as? Any great music-themed costume ideas out there? Another week with no posts- one of these days, I'll get back on top of things... Tracklisting: Cold War Kids - Royal Blue Gigi - Alone at the Pier Impossible Hair - You Can Own JBM - Ambitions [...]

We Are Trees Going into 2009's CMJ Festival , Surfer Blood, The xx and Warpaint were poised to be the breakout acts. In 2010, the field is wide open with over 1200 bands seeking approval from NYC audiences. Still, the bands that should generate the most attention are Lord Huron, We Are Trees, Cloud Nothings, Lower Dens, Wild Nothing, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Circle Pit, and Yuck. Out of that group, I expect Lord Huron, We Are Trees, and Lower Dens to come away with the most accolades of the festival. [...]

At the time of this writing ( a few weeks back, at this point-Ed .), The Tallest Man on Earth is the Hype Machine's most-blogged artist. If you'd like to hear a folk singer who doesn't sound like a cartoon character, however, you - and the blogosphere, which failed to alert me when this record dropped a few months ago - should look up JBM. His debut, Not Even in July , is a somber collection lead by minor-key pianos and lingering lead guitars, the kind of stuff Michigan -era Sufjan Stevens (or the still-great White Ladder -era [...]

By Addy Danti AA Bondy proved himself once again Wednesday night, wielding his low-slung Guild Starfire guitar and his high-class honesty to deliver an hourlong set of captivating songs to a receptive Spaceland crowd. Backed by two understated multi-instrumentalists (Ben Lester on pedal steel and drums, Macy Taylor on keyboards and bass), the Southern-bred troubadour sipped his scotch and charmed the packed house with songs from his two full-lengths — and a new one whose pounding bassline and sonic build-up reveal Bondy heading toward a louder, more frenetic version of folk-rock. [...]

Last night we stopped in at Mercury Lounge to catch fantastic sets from two fiercely divergent songwriters, and to celebrate a record release to boot. The first, Sondre Lerche , delivered his customary playful, endearing, and rocking set. In contrast, Jesse Marchant (as JBM ) delivered a set that leveraged his own unique musicality over a variety of genres and sounds. Sondre Lerche took to the stage just after 9:30, and broke into the set with a new song on a tuned [...]
