Parfois les filles me plaisent parce qu'elles m'excitent. Rousseau World - Je suis Animal Misty Roses - Colin Blunstone
Is it me, or did March fly by? Either way, we like to think we introduced you to some pretty cool bands throughout that month and to celebrate, we're giving away a lovely mixtape of all the bands featured! Not only that, but you could win the mixtape on an actual cassette (pictured above and below). For your chance to win this special mixtape, all you need to do is: 1. [...]

Je Suis Animal make the sort of music that's easy to write about, and coming from the point of view of a reluctant writer - it makes all the difference. The band formed in our fine country back in 2004 but they soon moved to Oslo and it certainly shines through every note they make. Whether or not they intentionally set out to make the kind of music which acts like hand warmers to cold climates is questionable, but it certainly warms my heart. [...]

Always one to champion the latest fuzzed-out pop group, I cannot help but talk up Je Suis Animal . Their songs boast the heavy guitar distortion and pointed percussion so rampant in some of today's greatest artists, with a soft and smooth vocal styling not typically found in groups such as this. And that's what makes them special. Je Suis Animal comes from Oslo, Norway and "Fortune Map" is their latest video. The song is off their recent LP Self-Taught Magic From A Book (2008), available on [...]

Je Suis Animal - Hotel Electrique Classic indie pop from Oslo-based quintet with just just the right measure of twee sentiment and throwback sounds. They recorded their debut album, Self-Taught Magic from a Book , in a remote community hall somewhere in the Norwegian woodlands with no intention of combining the songwriting style of Belle and Sebastian with the recording process of Bon Iver. Honestly. Buy MySpace [...]

As usual with every year-end list i've done since we've started, compiling a list of songs is usually last on my agenda. This time around, as of late last night, I decided to put this together before actually posting our favorite albums. It was so spur-of-the-moment in fact, that I made no mention of even doing this to our other contributors, in turn making mine the sole list here, unfortunately. You'll notice a lot of these songs made the mid-year list, as I never really listened to a lot of new music towards the latter portion of [...]

In Latin, they used to say, De gustibus non est disputandum . Roughly translated it means, I'm right and you're wrong. No really, it translates to There's no accounting for taste . Since this blog is a one person show, this list was created in a vacuum. The only debates that happened putting this list together went on inside my head, and since my tastes lean toward pop, this list reflects just that. As far as how this year compares with previous years, there wasn't one record that jumped out at me a screamed best record of the [...]

This year seemed to be the year in which the 73 single returned to prominence. It's not like it ever really went away, but this year bands and labels were putting them out left a right. Vinyl in general, is making a resurgence with the prevalence of file downloading a cd is just a lousy digital copy that takes up too much space, whereas a slab of vinyl is more like a work of art with it being big enough to actually appreciate the cover art. It also comes in many shades, with colored vinyl showing up almost as much [...]

"Self-Taught Magic From A Book" heisst das Debüt der Band Je Suis Animal . Alles in allem sehr "charming". Cheers to Skatterbrain for posting this recently released Cloudberry single from Je Suis Animal , as this was my first chance to finally listen to this band. I've seen their name tossed around here and there, but for some reason or another just didn't bother to give them a chance. Of course, I know absolutely nothing about them, so I was able to learn a thing of two from The Finest Kiss who tosses a few comparisons that include the likes of Broadcast , Electrelane , and [...]
Je Suis Animal are classy . Let me just say I have done a terrible job of keeping up with Cloudberry as of late. – Odd, too, because ever since reaching 100 3" CDRs their output has slowed dramatically, you know, to that of a normally functioning record label. Every 7" Roque's released so far has been an absolute cracker and the new(ish) Je Suis Animal single is no exception! I've known about it for a little while now, but it wasn't until this morning that I actually gave it a [...]

Njótið vel! photo from _light_°'s flickr photostream With the end of the year quickly approaching I was trying to assemble a rough cut of my favorite albums for 2008 and when I looked through the stack of cd's I realized that there were more than a couple that I somehow neglected to write about. It's probably laziness or just a simple lack of time. I work slowly, and am in constant awe of how other people seem to be so prolific with their writing. So in an effort to bring you up to speed, at [...]
Excellent Norwegian indiepop act Je Suis Animal has reportedly signed with Angular Recordings in the UK and will be releasing the album "Self-taught magic from a book" over there on December 1.

The a-side for the forthcoming Je Suis Animal "Painted my face" 7" on Cloudberry Records is now streaming at myspace: http://www.myspace.com/jesuisa nimal Sounds quite nice I must say.
