Boston-bred emcee and born survivor Elemental Zazen presents the first single from his forthcoming album Nothing To Lose But Change, also featuring Fashawn and Jean Grae. In 2007, a month after losing a close family member in an accident and his home in a five-alarm fire, The Weekly Dig voted him one of '10 To Watch In 20072. Shortly after undergoing brain surgery to remove a tumor - a procedure which left him with permanent sight damage - and learning how to walk again, The Boston Globe voted Zazen as one of their '5 Locals On The Verge' in 2008 [...]

Brooklyn native Talib Kweli returns with his 5th studio solo album (not including the collaboration with Mos Def or producers Hi-Tek and Madlib) on his own label imprint, Blacksmith Music; guests included are Jean Grae, Sean Price, Kendra Ross, Outasight, Blaq Toven and Chace Infinite. The title track paints a picture of how 'Gutter Rainbows' would look like in a city, envisioning a dynamic picture of Brooklyn, 'Palookas' produced by Marco Polo and featuring Sean Price is the highlight of the album with a 'gangsta' beat while dropping some smart, witty punchlines and out-performs the usually show-stealing Sean Price. Snow Days In College Are Like This It's official no classes, I slept until 3 and every minute was glorious. Word on the street is a lot of folks out there are in similar situations. Here's a few tracks for everyone else out there who is snowed in as well. Mr. Posner gangs up with Tunechi for a pop tune that is sure to please. Jessie J sounds just enough like Avril Lavigne for me to sponsor her. Lastly, this is just another timeless Kweli song in the making. [...]

From the very beginning, "Uh Oh" sounds like the soundtrack to a horror film. Not the cheesy, faux-scary feel that usually draws a comparison like that, but the kind of atmosphere that makes Dracula's castle or Camp Crystal Lake leap to mind. The stomping drums, fluttering synth and chanted chorus exude a sense of menace, and the gothic organ stabs bring the crashing lightning and pouring rain to complete the scene. And, as is only fitting, Talib Kweli and Jean Grae are lyrical monsters on the track. The first lady of Blacksmith Records says [...]

Talib Kweli is so consistent. I just realized that the Black Star album came out in 1998. I still remember my first time hearing that album. Here we are, 13 years later, and Kweli is still going strong. Despite the coming and going of trends, styles, and sounds, Kweli remains Kweli. Whether it's with Black Star, Reflection Eternal, or solo, the man has contributed a lot of good music. "Uh Oh" was produced by Oh No and will be on Talib Kweli's album Gutter Rainbows , out on January 25th. Preorder the album here . [...]

Talib Kweli 's Gutter Rainbows album is coming up and now another track from the album has dropped. The title of the track is "Uh Oh" and features the amazing wordplay of Jean Grae. She pretty much destroys the track and of course Talib does too but that's not a surprise. The album is set to drop next week. Check out the track below. Life is all about progression. Time doesn't stop, we don't get any younger, and it's always the early bird that catches the worm. With the closing of another year, I know I speak for the entire Blind I staff when I say that I hope you've all grown as we have; seen what's being done and aspired to be better...for as you know, Blind I ALWAYS says GO!... DJ Franchise came at this mixtape with a dope approach. Like many of us, he was fortunate enough to become a hip-hop fan in the Golden Era where the rawest of the raw was coming out. Now he's witnessed the common debate about whether or not the new rappers are any good and comparing them to the vets. To highlight the talent in the new school, he put together this mix. Dope! Jean's musical output hasn't increased as much as I hoped since she linked up with Talib's Blacksmith movement. Sure, Jeanius got it's proper release, but other than that fans have been patiently waiting. What I am grateful for are the strides her flow has made in the mean time and, while not an equal trade-off, it's something that will help her down the line. Employing a nimble double-time flow on "The Bridge," the second leak from the Year Of The Blacksmith Community Mixtape , Jean's seducing [...]
