With all the stress of looking for a new hosting provider behind me, I figured i'd post these little Halloween goodies that had been littered in my email. At first, I was only going to post these few songs I had but today ended up being extremely boring. So much in fact, that I decided to go ahead and make a Halloween mix to post here. I think Andy is making one as well, and his will probably be much more thought out and creative. So whether you're giving out candy (like me) on [...]

It's been a long time since the last Sunday Shuffle, but I didn't think i'd ever be able to do it again after my computer decided to crap out on me. This isn't really a shuffled list but just a bunch of songs from a lot of my favorite bands/artists. Plus, I was kinda bored and I still don't like posting anything on the weekends. I kinda wanted to make a mix of fun, up-beat songs so I hope you enjoy these and that you're having a great weekend! If you're [...]
Henri Cartier-Bresson Emails about olive trees and throwing paint lead to handcrafted letters and nightly conversations that cracked open my sternum so that everything I had been hiding could seep out, in color. I used to think that I wouldn't be able to do it again, the stitching back up took too long and it just hurt [...]
recently, i asked my brightest diamond 's shara worden the way she feels about music and art. this is how she answered. I was just in New Orleans on tour and that city feels like art itself. I want to simultaneously hold the city in my arms, smile from ear to ear and burst into tears. I kept thinking of Bjork’s Olympic dress, and how if she could come to New Orleans like a mother hen and cover the whole city with her [...]
the other day this song appeared. it was a few minutes of WFMU's DJ Nick Hill, joined with a few musicians, making a phone call to jeff buckley. they ask if he may sing something special with everyone there in the studio and jeff performs a lovely dylan cover of *i shall be released*. singing through the telephone with the musicians playing in the background, its quite amazing, important and very

(Photo by MuseBellamy ) More covers today, the first courtesy of Foewheel , an interesting blog which occasionally throws up something really cool. As in today. Everybody knows that Jeff Buckley is really, really good. Anybody who's anybody will be able to tell you that Grace is one of the finest records of the last twenty years, one that pulls together a searingly emotional vocal style with incredible instrumentation and orchestration, and not only that but some of the most inch-perfect songwriting combined with a couple of the best cover versions you'll [...]

...V ale muito dar uma espiada no blog 'I am a fuel, you are friends' trazendo faixas novas de 'Damien Rice' (que promete para Dezembro o tão aguardado segundo disco), umas raridades (e das boas!) de 'Jeff Buckley' e a fantástica história das 500 fitas encontradas dos 'Beatles', da sessão do 'Let it be' , com mais de 200 covers, de 'Elvis' a 'Rod Stewart' ... Given that some of my favorite artists of forever have come through town recently (with many more on the horizon), I thought that it would be appropriate to compile a shortlist of sorts for my Top 10 (Modern) Singers that I have come into contact in my life. Of course, it is completely unfair to put these in any ranking order since they all have different talents, and gifts that all need to be

I had this long post written and it detailed the period of time right after college in the summer of 1994. It was how I discovered Jeff Buckley while my life was filled up with and about a girl named Jenn, indie bands at the time, Juliana Hatfield headlining for Buckley, a G. Love industry showcase, Discovery Discs, breakfasts at Blue In Green, Bono's tribute to Buckley and another girl named Olga. Oh well. I did have the privilege to see Buckley at the Tin Angel in Philly a week before Grace was offically released and [...]

I have this amazing secret reference person, known only to me by email, a San Franciscan named Lisa who is a veritable treasure trove of Jeff Buckley information. She found me after my first Jeff Buckley post , and she has been a superstar ever since. My friend Matthew, who runs the Don't Need Anything blog, recently posted some intriguing-sounding Jeff Buckley songs without any information about what they were or where they came from. Since you know that I just finished reading that [...]
Growing up in Rhode Island I watched tapes become compact discs, CDs become mini-discs, mini-discs fail and when I went to college I learned about mp3s, Napster and Discrete Dynamical Systems. This all becomes important (except for the Discrete Dynamical Systems) when I direct our discussion to how a young ruffian from Rogue's Island found out about new music when he was in his formative years. 1. He didn't. 2. He listened to what was on the radio (or MTV). See #1. 3. He listened to what his older brother played (Corrosion of Conformity, Megadeth, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, [...]

Well, that was intense. I just finished reading Dream Brother: The Lives & Music of Jeff & Tim Buckley this afternoon and I feel a bit more in love with the music, somewhat eviscerated by the sad details of untimely deaths, and pensive over all the history that I didn't know. I highly recommend the book to fans of Jeff or Tim Buckley, or even to just your average music lover (which, clearly, you are, because you are here on my site). The book seems about [...]

Being the son of a famed songwriter must be interesting. Jeff Buckley grew up as the son to Tim Buckley, a brilliant songwriter who died an untimely death when Jeff was 9, due to a drug overdose. Despite only meeting once, these two had a lot in common. Besides their visually striking similarities, their songwriting were both innovative, inspiring, and dwelled in several genres. Buckley released only one album, Grace , in 1994 before he drowned in Wolf River (Memphis, Tennessee) in 1997. The question remains whether it was suicide or not, but [...]

Sideways is such an excellent movie. You actually end up learning a lot about wine, but I enjoy the film because Paul Giamatti's character is essentially an older version of a close friend of mine. I'm pretty sure he doesn't read this blog. Plus writer/director Alexander Payne is a UCLA alum and the whole movie was filmed on location in the California wine country. Nice. Peter, Paul and Mary - "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine": mp3 Jeff Buckley - "Lilac Wine": mp3 The National [...]

There's a weird, eerie mirroring to the lives of Tim and Jeff Buckley. Both posessed stunning voices. And both died unexpectedly young. Jeff grew up not knowing his real father. Having left Jeff's mother while pregnant, Tim had little contact with Jeff. Spent little time with him but clearly thought of him. Indeed, 'Dream Letter' is about him. As the title suggests, it's an imagined letter from an estranged father asking after his son. Wondering how he is, [...]
