Live music picks for TUESDAY MAY 15 through SATURDAY MAY 19, 2012. TUESDAY MAY 15 / PS I LOVE YOU / THE GARRISON / 1197 DUNDAS W / $10.50 / 19+ This is as polarizing a band as you're ever going to find, and on a personal level, I'm not even entirely sure what I think of them. On the one hand, PS I Love You is made up of two clearly talented musicians. And they're from Kingston, which is only a stone's throw away from Toronto, so [...]

Well you can't win em all. Despite constantly searching out new music occasionally an artist or two gets past me. That's the case with these two today. It hurts even more that one of them ( Jeff Pianki ) is based in Michigan - not very far from me. The other is a bluegrass inspired group called Troubel . Jeff Pianki is a young singer-songwriter from Milford, Michigan. He has a gorgeous voice and already a nice catalog of songs. "Missing Parts" is from his 2010 release Paper Window . Currently out [...]

~Jeff Pianki~ ~Folk / Acoustic~ ~Milford, Michigan~ ~ Website ~ ~ mp3 / ogg ~

This one time at bandcamp...I found Jeff Pianki . This album is a bedroom album, meaning both that it was recorded entirely in his bedroom, and that I would prefer to listen to it in my bedroom so I can feel sorry for myself in private. There's a lot of heartbreak and chasing of broken people woven through the eight songs that make up Paper Window. What makes this worth throwing a few bucks towards is the honesty that hits you over the head, the emotions in the songs feel incredibly genuine. He reminds me [...]

Jeff Pianki - Old Habits Been listening to this album a lot the last couple days (thanks to Caleb from Happiest Lion sharing a youtube video on Facebook). It is definitely easy on the ears and another reminder that there is so much great music being written, recorded and shared these days. Doing your best to keep up is all one can hope to do. This one is worth making some time for. You can grab Jeff's album 'Paper Window' for whatever price you wish [...]

i didn't recognize the name when i first came across paper window on bandcamp, but i now know that i've seen jeff pianki before, via his youtube page . coulda been one, maybe even two years ago, but i've definitely seen some of his videos. feel free to check out his channel, but for this post i'm going to focus on this album, as it's clear that he's more than some 'bro' posting acoustic covers on youtube to pick up ladies. he's pretty damn talented. like myself, jeff is in the midwest...michigan to be exact, [...]
By the time you read this, we'll have been in the fields for two days already, camping out just a short hop from the Falcon Ridge Folk Fest mainstage while we help build the place from the ground up - and I'll have spent Saturday at Grey Fox Bluegrass Fest , too, so it's a reasonable bet that I've got a starter burn across my neck and nose, and a camera full of close-up press-access shots and shaky video of the best cover sets I could find. I'll have a lovely guest post [...]

Illustration by Mike Okay, before we begin, just a tiny tiny follow up to our iPad-related post the other day : Just sayin'... Okay, movin' on. Were was we about to begin? Oh yeah, hot digitty! Train: Yo Axel, you're not still mad about Frank's pizza-man fakeout are you? Axel: I mean, I was really amped about getting my 'za on that day. Train: Don't worry, I've some special jams that should raise your spirits, including a special Cudi cover by some good friends of The Muffin... Axel: Bring ...

Credit where credit is due today to other bloggers for turning me on to the following cover artists and songs. First, major kudos to Chad of the newly-resurrected, totally refurbished Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands for finding and promoting Jeff Pianki , a young upstart who knows how to play and how to play the social media rising star game. The Michigan-based artist, who posts his own new covers at both YouTube and Tumblr , refers fans to his homegrown last.fm collections for [...]

Unless you have roots in Michigan, chances are you don't know who Jeff Pianki is. And that's a shame because he's quite the gem of modern folk and deserves more attention than he's getting. But everyone has to start somewhere, right? Pianki, for one, is starting by self-distributing cds and mp3's of his lovely songs and youtube-ing a buzzworthy cover of Fleet Foxes' White Winter Hymnal . He seems like the archetypal sensitive indie guy - Laid back with a sense of humor and quite proficient with his guitar, how [...]
