It's human nature to recognize patterns and organize like objects into larger, related groups. In music, this behavior leads us (Both critics and fans) to force acts into genres and micro-genres, for not only do we love to organize, we love to forget the past. How else does one explain the need for dub-step when we already had trip-hop? For the Nashville rock duo, JEFF the Brotherhood , any number of genres could do - Rock, punk, garage, psych - but, with a track like "Shredder," one which combines the low-end riffage of Queens of The Stone Age with [...]

If you happened to be at Fun Fun Fun Fest, we hope that you caught Jeff the Brotherhood early on Saturday, as they rocked their set, winning over new fans, including us. We've been waiting for this day, as the band have gotten closer and closer to the release of their second album, We Are the Champions , which will hit record stores on June 21st via Infinity Cat. Once you get a whiff of this first single, you'll probably be on board with us too. It's got hints [...]

The aptly-dubbed "Shredder" kicks off with a buzz saw of theremin before Jake and Jamin Orrall lay the hammer down with their respective guitar fuzz and drum dynamite. Just over the two-minute mark, "Shredder" is everything it should be: short, furiously fast, and imbued with killer riffs and drum breaks. The song is the first taste off JEFF The Brotherhood's forthcoming We Are The Champions LP out on June 21st via the brothers' impeccable Infinity Cat label. If you're a vinyl fiend, catch JTB on their May tour to nab this on sexy [...]

mp3: Jeff The Brotherhood - "Shredder" So weird. This was on Alt. Zonez, didn't think this was 'chill' enough but whatevs. We got the Natty Child track. Now we got the Jeff the Bro'hood track BACK - TO - BACK. Mebbe we'll throw that Ty Segall one on just for good measure. You know Jeff the Bro'hood by now. Heavy Cream killed you and the upcoming We Are The Champions will resurrect you. "Shredder" will...uh, shred you. We Are.. . is out on June 21 on the [...]
A friend this weekend pulled me aside and told me, "Dude, this band sounds exactly like The Blue Album-era Weezer." To which my ears perked. And yes, JEFF The Brotherhood, on a smattering of tracks on their stellar new album We Are The Champions sounds like some modern hybrid of lo-fi garage rock and the [...]

I actually caught JEFF the Brotherhood at one of their last sets on their prolific 230 show stretch, a tour that almost lasted for the entire duration of 2010. It might as well have been their first, they showed no signs of fatigue as they ripped through over an hour of raw, dirty south garage jams. Their latest full length effort, We Are the Champions , shares the same intensity and is perfectly demonstrated in their latest track. "Shredder" starts off (almost literally) like a chainsaw, cutting through the air with a guitar driven ferocity that doesn't [...]

New West Blue Rodeo's annual Summer shows at the Molson Amphitheatre are pretty much a Toronto tradition and they never have a problem getting people to come down to the lake's edge and lounge about listening to old favourites, whether there's a new record to support or not (their last release was 20092s The Things We Left Behind ). But this year's edition is notable for offering the extra incentive of having Steve Earle & The Dukes and Duchesses on board as support. [...]

March was a bit of a tease. Some days in the 70s, others in the 30s... we are clearly at the border of two seasons. As we prepare for the big spring/summer releases, it is no crime to look to the past for instances of greatness. After all, two artists this month - Nicolas Makelberge [...]

JEFF the Brotherhood slayed Death By Audio, playing a good mix of Heavy Days along with new tracks from We Are The Champions (which they are selling a limited clear vinyl version of on this tour). Check out some more photos below and a newish mp3. MP3: JEFF the Brotherhood - Diamond Way

Colleen Green was the first of four bands opening for JEFF the Brotherhood at Death By Audio. She performed her cute pop songs with her friend to a drum machine. Her sweet voice paired with fuzzy guitars sounded excellent live, plus her tape Milo Goes To Compton is a nice reference to The Descendents. Check out some photos below and an mp3 from her Green One + 3 73 that is available from Hardly Art . Mp3: Colleen Green - Y Do You Call Me?

Mmmhhmmm, this is one of those reliably excellent rock-your-face-off shows. JTB is supposed to be the "secret guest," but the cat is all the way out of the bag at this point. JEFF has been playing places like Bowery and MHOW lately, so this show is going to be packed, sweaty, and an absurd amount of fun. All of the openers are excellent, as well. If you haven't listened to JEFF's new album, We Are The Champions , you're sorely missing out. It's excellent drum/guitar duo punk rock, but they do it better than anyone else out there right now. [...]
Our favorite thrashers are back in NYC and they're playing Cake Shop tonight. Not the best venue for a band like Ballzy but it is what it is. The always awesome JEFF The Brotherhood are playing Santo's Party House. If you're itching for some real deal country then check out The Dixons at Union Pool. By: David Schultz Over the course of 4 days and nights, I managed to catch 54 different artists over a total of 61 different sets. For music fans, South By Southwest is the equivalent of Disneyland. There’s a lot of standing in lines, there’s lots of ups and down, you are exhausted at the end of the day and your feet hurt but you don’t care. Lord Huron (Red 7 Patio) The California band had

Day 4 of SXSW was perhaps the most fun of all, and it began with the most delicious vegan peanut butter cup I’ve ever had. I washed it down with an agave wheat beer at the Spider House, where Norwegian noisers the Megaphonic Thrift rocked me back to the early nineties with their can’t-quite-put-my-finger-on -it nostalgic noise concoction. It felt like a couple dashes of Dino J, a pinch of Sugar, and a sprinkle of… what? The Meat Puppets? Tripmaster Monkey? Poster Children? You know how the smell of pink sawdust can bring [...]
