Tweet I stopped following Beast Coast on Twitter a while ago because I was tired of reading about her getting stoned or how awesome her cat was. It's a cat, all cats are awesome! Get over it! Anyway, to celebrate herself almost reaching the 50k follower mark on Twitter she's uploaded a new track called "How They Want Me To Be" in stereotypical Best Coast fashion, reverb-laden harmonies and draped with that drudging cloudy Summer sound. Naturally the [...]

Oh yes, it is that time again. Here is a round up of the very best of what we posted in July, plus a couple of new ones to add to the mix. Enjoy. Download Dennis Hopper Choppers – Good To Me mp3 (from Be Ready) Morricone inspired spaghetti western feel and Tijuana style horns combine to give an authentic dusty desert twang. Nirvana - Nevermind Tribute (DL) JEFF The Brotherhood - Something In The Way Jessica Lea Mayfield - Lounge Act The Strokes - Is This It Tribute (DL) Real Estate - Barely Legal Computer Magic - Take It Or Leave It Tweet
The first in a four part series recapping some of the best music to come out of Nashville during the first half of 2011.

For a duo, JEFF the Brotherhood has an incredibly full and distorted sound. There's a lot of kinetic energy flying between these two Nashville musicians on this new recording, We Are the Champions . And if these guys are champions as anything, it's bringing back the vocals and melodic power pop that powered Weezer's self-titled debut. Oh, yeah, Pinkerton , too. There are harder, faster moments on here that show's the duo's muscle, but that still doesn't take away from the fact there's some serious influence worshiping going on here. I [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Dana Nalbandian, WireImage Be on the lookout: JEFF the Brotherhood have had some of their gear stolen, including frontman Jake Orrall's go-to guitar. The Jay-Z-approved band revealed the news on Twitter , writing "Please keep an eye out for Jake's white three string guitar, it was stolen out of our van last night along with amps." As BrooklynVegan [...]

As we mentioned yesterday the latest issue of Spin magazine is dedicated to to the 20th anniversary Nirvana's seminal album Nevermind , with the cover story dedicated to answering the question - What Nevermind Means Now . The album, which essentially eliminated hair metal, introduced the world of the heavy rock sounds emanating from the Pacific Northwest that came to be known as Grunge. As a way of celebrating the record SPIN assembled an impressive array of musician to record a Nevermind tribute album , that features the likes of the Meat Puppets, Titus [...]

SPIN may not know the difference between Jake or Jamin Orrall or how to put together halfway decent album art, but the magazine has been known to compile an entertaining tribute album (see the Purple Rain tribute featuring Sharon Jones and Mariachi El Bronx). Today, the magazine released it's ode to the 20th anniversary of Nevermind with a collection of covers by groups like Surfer Blood, Jessica Lea Mayfield, and Telekinesis. While there are some serious duds on the album, there are also some clear winners, like Charles Bradley's [...]

Here's an interesting tidbit: Nirvana 's seminal album Nevermind turns 20 this year (how's that feel, Generation X?). A grunge masterpiece that transcended its boundaries, the album is as relevant now as it was when it hit the shelves in September 1991. Case in point: SPIN has put together Newermind , a cleverly titled tribute album that sees acts both new and old covering each of the record's 13 tracks (including the hidden "Endless, Nameless"). Now available as a free [...]

[photo by Eric Phipps courtesy of Impose Magazine ] Two Saturdays ago, JEFF The Brotherhood played a set at 285 Kent under the most intense conditions that we've ever experienced at an indoor concert. The audience members were drenched in sweat and one can only imagine the heat on stage. I felt like I had jumped fully clothed into a swimming pool. At one point early in the set, Jake received an electrical shock from a sweaty contact with the microphone, and was left to place a sock over the mic to prevent [...]

I'm not sure if it's my aging bones or that I've been restless in Cleveland, but spending time this past week with my family was fabulous. Each year that goes by I feel a slight tug back toward the town of my childhood, and any time spent in Cincinnati is usually restful and fulfilling. After a quick visit in Porkopolis and a jaunt down to the rolling hills of Tennessee, I'm officially back in Cleveland and enjoying the sauna....sort of. This post is to serve as a quick catch-up with some things I've missed over the last [...]

You may recall a light, sitar version of "Health & Strength" on JEFF the Brotherhood 's album We Are the Champions . The duo/ real life brothers just released a heavy version of the same track, replacing sitars for guitars and hard-hitting drums that are sure to get you head-banging- or bobbing, if you're at work or something. The track can be found on their limited edition tour 73. Grab the mp3 below. MP3: JEFF The Brotherhood "Health And Strength (Heavy Version)" [...]

Photo by Beka Cope JEFF The Brotherhood , congratulations! You've also on the list of bands I missed when they came through town and now I'm kicking myself for doing so! * Man, I'm on a roll . Anyway, their latest album We Are The Champions is one of those rare discs that hasn't been deleted from regular rotation after the first few listens. It's catchy rock and/or roll at it's best. A bit of pop, a dash of stoner, a smidge of metal and teensy sprig of [...]
JEFF The Brotherhood got sweaty with Fucked Up and Iceage at 285 Kent a couple of weeks ago. In that punk spirit, here's a revved version of "Health & Strength," a track that appears in lighter sitar-threaded psych form on the Nashville siblings' We Are The Champions . This one's from a limited-edition (500 pressed, now sold out) tour 73. As JEFF's Jake Orrall explains, it's the track's original form: Read More...

A good buddy of mine never goes to shows. I always try to drag him with me, but it usually never works out. So when he expressed interest in attending this one, I couldn't have been more happy/apprehensive. I told him about JEFF the Brotherhood - a pair of all-denim-everything good ol' boys from Tennessee playing loud, chicken-fried CBGB's stuff. And then I told him about Fucked Up - a six-piece Canadian hardcore outfit, vanguards of the genre, who just wrote an involuted rock opera that makes Zen Arcade seem like Bye Bye [...]
