So a little over a month ago Wilco's Jeff Tweedy (as he does from time to time) played a sold-out solo show at Chicago's Vic Theater. I unfortunately didn't make it to the show (thanks to the $100 ticket price) but it was for a good cause (a benefit for the Montessori school his kids attend) and I still have my memories from his solo outing at the Vic back in March 2005. With Sky Blue Sky out this past Tuesday, this offers a few of those songs presented in a different and stripped-down fashion [...]
The new Wilco b-side I posted up a couple days ago got me all excited about Wilco again; the past 48 hours have seen me searching through all my favorite old tracks from Tweedy & Co. I definitely have some favorite Jeff Tweedy moments, and I've been thinking about where "One True Vine" might fit in. Ok, it might not be quite that good - Tweedy has blessed us with some seriously astounding moments - but it's still pretty wonderful. Anyhow, here are some of my favorite Tweedy moments... I'll [...]
MP3: Ian Hunter - "Words (Big Mouth)" featuring Wilco's Jeff Tweedy on backing vocals, from the Mott the Hoople leader's Yep Roc debut, Shrunken Heads, due May 15. This track also features the E-Street Band's Soozie Tyrell on fiddle. Tweedy...

To say I am knackered would be a royal understatement. It was a non-stop weekend of late nights and early mornings. And also a weekend of celebrating. Saturday started with the celebration of my Nan's 95th birthday. An occasion which saw the coming together of the family and the meeting of eldest family member with the youngest, 3 month old Bailey. Despite the vast difference in age, there were some resemblances. Both are small, wrinkled and probably weren't 100% sure of what was going on. For while my Nan is doing well for her age, she [...]
Jeff Tweedy - "Inner Voice" from Odd Job Jack, a Canadian cartoon. "What's this Wilco lead singer doing when he's not making real music? He's doubling as Jack's musical inner voice."...

HELLO FRIENDS! It's been awhile, but HTFAF is finally back up and running for your enjoyment. In January I started a Song(s) of the month series, featuring my favorite songs of the month and a random classic. I realized in the midst of all this that I never delivered on my promise to make songs of the month...well monthly. To make up for it I'm combining February and March for what seems to be a fittingly thick return post. Let's get down to business shall we? [mp3] Dr. Dog - [...]

"The new wilco record is not going to be great," I thought aloud upon hearing the track What Light . It's not that I don't like the song, I do, but It's certainly not on the same level as the better songs on Being There , or Summer Teeth , Or Yankee Hotel . The problem is that Tweedy, or someone in his camp, have convinced him that he is Bob Dylan (Listen and you'll understand why I say that.) Upon further investigation, I don't think the album is going to be [...]

The parallel between Wilco and Jeff Tweedy and Jay Farrar and Son Volt has been hard to ignore. When Uncle Tupelo broke up, and the songwriters went their separate ways, it was anyones guess as to whom would be the bigger success with their new bands. It started off easily enough, Wilco released a rather rushed and not incredibly well accepted debut in A.M. While Son Volt on the other hand, dropped a classic on the masses with Trace. Since that time though, Wilco has been catapulted into super indie stardom, while Farrar has [...]

If you have been able to brave the storm that was yesterday's leak of a couple of Wilco tunes from the new album, Sky Blue Sky, and are still breathing, then good for you, cause it was messy. As expected with any band that has set the bar incredibly high, Wilco are bound to get mixed reviews almost regardless of what they release. It has happened with each of the last three albums in different ways, from the folks that thought Summerteeth was too poppy, to those that didn't "understand" Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, (im looking [...]

ummm, yeah. i have not been so smitten with a young lady in a magazine since the early days of heidi klum. ms marisa miller is one spicy enchilada - as i heard someone once refer to a lovely young lady. she's not even really my type at all, but dear lord if there isnt [...]

Wilco fans have been anxiously awaiting an album release, or even news of a release, after the bands 2004 gem, "A Ghost Is Born." Now we've got answers. On May 15, given that Nonesuch doesn't mess up the release like Reprise did with "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot," I am happy to inform those of you who don't know, that Wilco, the best band on earth (possibly universe), will be releasing "Sky Blue Sky". Thanks to Wilco's more than generous recording policy, many of the songs that will potentially be on the album have been recorded in live format. Knowing [...]

Jeff Tweedy of Wilco has announced a short solo tour for early next year, beginning in mid-January. The tour, supporting his recently released solo DVD Sunken Treasure: Live in the Pacific Northwest , ironically hits mostly the Southeast. His new album is out in late spring. Dates: 1/16 - Memphis, TN - Germantown Performing Arts Center 1/17 - Nashville, TN - James K. Polk Theater 1/19 [...]
Uncommon Folk is a feature in which artists we admire talk about the music that inspired and influenced their own work. We are thrilled to have Matador artist Jennifer O'Connor provide the latest entry, on her album Over the Mountain, Across the Valley, and Back to the Stars. On this album O'Connor hits the sweet spot between honesty and mystery, aided by her engaging, conversational voice,

Pitchfork reports that Jeff Tweedy had to get physical with a fan about a half-hour into Wilco's Monday night concert in St. Louis. "According to an anonymous Pitchfork reader, Tweedy punched a rowdy fan in the face about 30 minutes into Wilco's set yesterday evening. "So some dude jumps on the stage," the reader claims. "After he gets on stage (who really does this at a Wilco show?), he runs up to Tweedy to give him a fat smooch on his cheek." How does Jeff respond? How any red-blooded American with balls would have responded -- punching him [...]
There are many reasons why Mr. Tweedy is awesome (such as that webcast ). Here is another one that I think applies directly to music blogs and the sharing of music. I agree with his philosophy of music Look at what he has to say about "stealing music" Here is a discussion Jeff has with Lawrence Lessig about "Who Owns Culture" Intro Opening [...]
since moving to the atlanta area i have become quite a big falcons fan. now, they wont ever over take the bears but they are damn fun to watch, even though they are quite frustrating. todays game, at least offensively, should have solidified a new look falcons. the falcons will never go all they way, see super bowl, running the ball - no matter how great the ground game is. vick can throw the ball, i think thats apparent, but he has to start early to get himself and his receivers into a groove. once [...]
i had, up until about a week or so ago, been wilco'd out. for a good 8 -9 years i had hung on their every move or sound as it were, but something changed with the release of a ghost is born. actually the record had nothing to do with my change in feeling toward wilco, it was my own actions that caused the momentary breakup. i just filled my life with too much wilco. i downloaded and listened to too many shows, read too much, and cared maybe a little too much. so over the past year i have sparingly listened to [...]

Modern technology is stepping in again and making us even lazier, for those in the DC area at least. Not that I care, mind you. It works out quite well for those of us nowhere near the 9:30 club. You may recall the band doing the same deal last year when in DC. Wilco's live set tonight can be heard on either NPR or Wilcos website at 10pm est. Also, we have already given you plenty of leadtime on the new Jeff [...]
