On this Sunday, some of the good stuff starts early: ► Philadelphia trio Good Old War visits the Avalon Hollywood behind its new album "Come Back As Rain," with L.A.'s own the Belle Brigade and Family of the Year opening. ► Big doings at the Bootleg Theater, where KXLU's LA Psych Fest brings the Entrance Band, Lumerians, Jeffertitti's Nile, Farmer Dave Scher, Allah-Las to a daylong event that kicks off at 2 p.m. ► And Allen Stone is back for a second sold-out night at the Troubadour. [...]
Your Tuesday things: ► The Silent Comedy bring their foot-stomping blues-Americana to the Roxy for a headlining show that features rockers Taylor Locke & the Roughs , who are working on the follow-up to the two albums they released in 2010, and Races , the indie-rockers whose debut album "Year of the Witch" is out March 27 on Frenchkiss Records. (And Buzz Bands LA will be selecting the between-sets music, any requests?) ► Norwegian rocker Ida Maria , who was dynamite last year when she visited the Roxy, comes back [...]
One thing about Jeffertitti's Nile last full-length album, "Hypnotic River of Sound" : With a title like that, you don't need a lot of adjectives to describe what they're doing. With their guitar benders and reverb-soaked vocals, the psych-rock revivalists have one hand in the 1960s and the other in their parents' medicine cabinet. And so it goes with their new single, "Midnight Siren," seemingly lifted from a sun-baked 8-track tape I once left on the back seat of my Chevy Impala. The video, the work of Alec Singer and Johnny Maroney, brings to mind the Grateful [...]

Live This Month: January 2012 (Podcast #268) In Live This Month , we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. If the beginning of January feels a little slim on the live music front, things should ramp back up into the usual overwhelming number of interesting shows by the month's end. Several young local bands recently came onto our radar - including Churches, Poor Sons, and Primitive Hearts - and they're all partaking in locals-heavy bills in the next [...]

Jeffertitti's Nile has always been one of my favorite bands to see live ever since I heard the ever so sweet opening guitar riff to Mountain Jam some months ago at a TimeWarp show. I caught this set of theirs at The Sanctuary . The Sanctuary's next show will be on Friday, May 6 at 7:00pm . All acoustic show with a great line up!

Last month, Tom Tom Magazine celebrated its 5th issue with a release party at the Alexandria Hotel in Los Angeles. See photos from the party, here . Tom Tom Magazine, for those who don't know, is dedicated to female drummers and beat makers, which is very cool. Since it's based in New York, founder Mindy Abovitz enlisted Swahili Blonde's Nicole Turley to give them the lowdown on L.A. women who beat things well, so issue #5 featured Tearist's Yasmine Kittles, Voices Voices' Nico Turner & Janean Farris, Danielle Devincenzo of Jeffertitti's Nile, Laena Myers-Ionita of [...]
