Last week I returned to the present with only a few throwbacks to the 90s toward the end of the show. The split digital/vinyl show featured new tracks from Sleeping Bag, The Babies, Sweater Girls, Gospel Claws, Suturee and Thunder Power. We also featured a few favorites since the year 2000 with tracks by The Anniversary, Tvärvägen and The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir. I'm excited for the show coming together for this Friday. It'll be a bit more electronic with several favorites from 2012 including Social Studies, Pure Bathing Culture, Purity [...]

Last weekend was my grandmother's Celebration of Life. It would have been her 92nd birthday. We all had margaritas (it was also Cinco de Mayo; I had three) and told funny stories about her life. It was a blast, a good closure and celebration to a woman who meant a lot to a lot of people. Upon returning on Monday, I took a trip out to Anacortes and The Business, picking up the new Cloud Nothings LP, Attack On Memory , which served as inspiration for tonight's show. [...]

Well folks this is it. This is the end of the line. 80+ songs of tasty emo goodness. I know I missed a bunch of stuff so let me know what you would have included. If you missed any of the first three in this series, you can find them here: Part 1 , Part 2 , and Part 3 . For those of you new to the game, these 80+ songs should give you something to chew on for quite awhile and for all you jaded [...]
Way before what teens today think of as emo, the term was shorthand for emotional hardcore. It was not a dirty word that referred to the lifestyle that gets so much negative press these days. Originating in the Washington, DC music scene of the mid-1980's, some so-called "first-wave" emo or emocore bands included Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Moss Icon.
