This is some of what has bouncing around my playlist this week; some old, some more recent. Enjoy. Listen: Ray LaMontagne â€" Three More Days Annuals â€" Brother The Epsilons â€" Black Sky Phoenix â€" Long Distance Call Sebastien Schuller â€" Sleeping Song The Mountain Goats â€" Cotton Jeremy Enigk â€" Wayward Love The Long Blondes â€" Autonomy Boy ...
I'll be honest, I haven't followed or paid much attention to Jeremy Enigk since post-Sunny Day Real Estate. I never listened to The Fire Theft or Jeremy's first solo album Return of the Frog Queen. So basically everything i'm hearing from him now, including this new solo album (first in 10 years) World Waits is completely new to me. I'll also be one to tell you that you don't have to be emo

first of all, i should say that, in a few days of rotation on my computer and ipod, these 3 songs have somehow become connected in my mind. i'm not sure if it's similar lyrical content (although i think i may be stretching it there), or if it's just that they fit together musically well, although i couldn't really see all three on tour together. regardless, this one's for some people. let's start things off with the admission that i am probably the only person who is not a huge fan of alexisonfire who still owns some of their swag. Jeremy Enigk World Waits [Lewis Hollow Recordings - October 17, 2006] *Sixeyes Score: 7.5 out of 10 Review by JP Swenson Let me start off by saying that in the mid 90’s, I LOVED Sunny Day Real Estate’s first 2 albums ( Diary & the self-titled/Pink albums). In 1995, in the Pacific Northwest, Sunny Day Real Estate were enigmatic legends: they didn’t do interviews, they wouldn’t play shows in California, they were featured on a movie soundtrack that also had U2 (even if [...]

FEATURED ARTIST: A WEEKS WORTH official site myspace [MP3] A Weeks Worth - When The Week Died It takes me a really long time to go through all my email - Damn spam filters never seem to really work. Thrown in the mass press releases and mailing lists I didn't even know I subscribed too (yeah seriously that shit is annoying) and you have a recipe for a disasterous inbox. I try and get [...]
The Fire Theft's singer, Jeremy Enigk (also the frontman for Sunny Day Real Estate) is coming out with a solo album on October 17th called World Waits, and if it is as good as both of these songs, it might be the surprise album of the year. IGIF successfully describes the album as:A grandiose selection of triumphant piano ballads, soft acoustic drifts, and reverb-out-the-wazoo, every song hits on
the shins are a band that i find really hard to dislike. i cant remember the last time i listened to an actual shins record but when the tracks pop up on my ipod i typically hit repeat. i dont know why i cant sit through a whole record? interestingly enough, i know quite a few people that feel the same way. here they are on the current 89.3 recorded on 4.12.05. 1. hot for teacher 2. talk 3. girl inform me [...]

By reading this blog, and this post in particular, you'd probably get the feeling that I have some kind of deep love for Sunny Day Real Estate, but the reality is, I totally don't. I obsessed about Diary for the length of exactly one summer - one which happened to be like 8 years after the album's release. I could never get intrigued by the whole "the singer's christian and he's breaking up the band but now he's not anymore and the band is back together but only kind of and this time they're calling it The Fire [...]

Things will be a little spotty here this week. I'm going to DC for a few days to visit some friends, see the sights, etc. I'll probably post once or twice during the week, but certainly not every day. Some of the things I've been distracted with the last couple days... The Red Sox got swept by the Yankees in a five game series this weekend. It was truly awful, as they found pretty much every way imaginable to lose. Pretty much [...]

If not for Chad over at Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands it's likely I might have let Jeremy Enigk , former singer of Sunny Day Real Estate, fade to black the digital black hole of my iTunes library. When we last left in Enigk, in 2003, he had formed the Fire Theft with two of the other three members of SDRE. I enjoyed the group's self-titled debut, though at that point, there had been so much drama surrounding Sunny Day â€" too many breakups and makeups to keep track of [...]

Ah another week has passed, which means it is once again time for my weekly concert calendar of the Baltimore region. I must admit that things are looking pretty sad in Charm City this week. Fortunately there is enough life in the outlying areas to make this week worthwhile. The lone concert of note that I have to report in Baltimore this week is fortunately a good one. On Wednesday night, The Ottobar has a bill featuring Aloha , Rahim [...]

On the one hand, it's easy to dismiss the need for another Jeremy Enigk solo album. Part of the magic that fueled the success of his debut, Return of the Frog Queen , was the fact that it was completely unlike anything his full-time band, Sunny Day Real Estate, was doing. SDRE created an aura about them, to be sure, but it was nothing like the world Enigk developed on ROTFQ. That album achieved an orchestral lushness, yet it was more organic and personal than a project like, say, The Polyphonic Spree. ROTFQ balanced rough-around-the-edges songs like "Explain," highlighting [...]
My attempt to post an MP3 by every band/artist from Lollapalooza (excluding those on the kids stage) has finally come to an end. Hooray! At this point, I think I got almost everyone except Sa Ra, Manishevitz, The Burden Brothers, Moses Mayfield, Assassins, and Makeshifte. I did post a few by nands that cancelled from the orignial lineup so hopefully you can all forgive me. Posts will be infrequent over the weekend as I take in the sights and sounds of Lollapalooza and a full wrap-up will follow next [...]

I'm not sure why anyone else is talking about this, but I guess not everyone holds Jeremy Enigk in such high esteem as me and ECEU do. Last week, two new songs were released for Enigk's upcoming follow up to 96's Return of the Frog Queen , and you can bet I'll be the first in line to grab it (especially based on the quality of these two tracks). If you aren't familiar with Jeremy Enigk, he's the mastermind behind Sunny Day Real Estate and The Fire Theft and [...]

He is coming back in october with a whole new album (World Waits) which will be reason for lots of reviews - especially one here. I've been his fan since Sunny Day Real Estate. Anyway, he just opened his Myspace website with a couple of new songs and several studio pictures. He is also kicking off tomorrow his US Tour in Denver, CO. So stay tunned! "Been Here Before" has touched my ears in such way that I can't stop listening to it. "Now that you're gone... only in your eyes your sunny [...]

In honour of his upcoming show at the El Mocambo, I've decided to share some of my favourite Jeremy Enigk songs. The former Sunny Day Real Estate and The Fire Theft frontman is expected to release his second solo album later this year, and judging from the two new songs posted on his MySpace page, it's unlikely to dissapoint. >>>> Jeremy Enigk Abegail Anne from 1996's Return of the Frog Queen [...]
during my 21st year, myself and a couple of friends headed to the metro, in chicago, to see velocity girl. velocity girl was fronted by the object of our collective desire, sarah shannon . velocity girl were pure pop bliss, btw. we happened to be running on time that particular evening so we able to catch the opener, sunny day real estate. if i had to choose between nailing scarlett johansson and reliving that show, it would be a tough call. i would still probably take scarlett, but you get the picture. while, [...]
