While I usually only post mp3 downloads I couldn't be bothered to wait for the pr company to get their act together to send me an mp3 from the new record from Jeff Black . So here is an embed of a song from his new record Plow Through The Mystic . I've been a fan of his ever since I heard his debut record Birmingham Road . I'm not the only fan that Jeff Black has accumulated so far - on this new record he is joined by Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Matraca [...]

Paper Airplane is a melodic, satisfying, but somewhat unadventurous album from Alison Krauss and Union Station.

Their last go around saw raves from critics who witnessed...

The album features an impressive roster of guest musicians, including: Alison Krauss, Dwight Yoakam, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Rob Ickes, Stuart Duncan, Byron House, Gary Burr and many more. With this album, Shaw, a Montgomery, Alabama native, establishes himself as an authentic addition to the Bluegrass community. Born with [...]

With all the interplay that goes on at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival between artists, it should come as no surprise that festival newcomers Mumford & Sons fit right in at their first TBF. The following segment features the band cavorting with Jerry Douglas, Big Cadillac and Sara Jarosz while rehearsing Where Is My Heart as well as bits of a raucous Hey Jude and their hit, Awake My Soul. Also, it's tough to spot Sara Jarosz back there on the mandolin behind all those big oafs, but I highly recommend investigating her music as she is remarkably talented and gaining [...]

By Jon Stone | @jwstone grass|roots - ep. 1 I don't remember the first time I heard Jerry Douglas play, but I do recall when I first started to notice. It was on a solo number -" Tribute to Peador O'Donnell " -on the live Alison Krauss and Union Station record . It wasn't life-changing so much as it was game-changing. Hearing Douglas - his virtuosity, his unmistakable style, and, really, hearing what a resophonic guitar (or Dobro ) can do - was like stumbling upon something completely new, yet totally familiar. [...]

I've been thinking bluegrass all week, thanks to a pair of tickets to this weekend's Joe Val Festival - an annual mid-winter marathon excursion which we've written about profusely in past years. It's a form that often doesn't get included in the folk blogger pantheon, save for the tradfolk and oldtimey set, and a tiny handful of Bluegrass specialists, but here at Cover Lay Down we like to define our terms broadly. In an older sense, of course, our inclusion of the 'grass is easy to defend: bluegrass is most definitely [...]

This Spring will see the inaugural Hangout Music Festival bring an "eclectic lineup of 60-plus artists" to the Gulf Shores of Alabama. "We're shooting for the stars," found Shaul Zislin told Alabama Live upon announcing its creation in December. "We want the best that are available in the business to come here." Well, it took a little long than expected, but Mr. Zislin has returned to announce which of these stars will hanging out on from May 14-16. Among them include the now Grammy Award winning outfit the Zac Brown [...]

With the word "collective" bringing images of hippies and the faint scent of patchouli to mind I wouldn't normally jump on a band that defines themselves as such however if you start tossing around names like Glen Phillips and Sean Watkins I start putting aside preconceptions and take notice. Tell me they just released an album and you'll get me excited. Well that's just what's happened. Works Progress Administration has released WPS. I can't figure out how to describe Works Progress Administration so I'll just them do it in their own words: [...]
