Jerry Leger is a man out of time, to coin a Costello. His recently released, digital-only min LP, The Good Old Days Are Back in Drag , is that rare beast, a temporally disjointed garage rock sound that's as comfortable in 2011 as it would in an earlier era. I guess that's testament to the timelessness of Leger's brand of revved up raw and unrefined rock 'n' roll, but in order to pull something like this off, you need more than just a passing knowledge of genre and style. You need the rock 'n' roll attitude [...]
There's not much to speak of in the way of new releases. This is interesting though: Common The Everybody (David Lovering & Joey Santiago) Jerry Leger- MP3 Kevin Hearn

I've been a fan of Jerry Leger for a while now, but even with the strength of his songs and the surprising depth of the characters he creates (considering his age), I've never thought his recording style fully matched his potential. The young songwriter is raw - in terms of the emotion he exposes - so any polish or precision he adds to an arrangement contrasts the life that he puts into each verse. Leger's new EP, The Good Old Days Are Back in Drag , is [...]

So hear it is. The result of months of hard work from some of our favorite bands across this nation (and even a special cameo from one of our favorite American outfits). Basically, the idea was simple: Pay tribute to a Canadian legend on Canada Day. Oh, and get some free content for the blog of course. In all seriousness, Gordon Lightfoot has been making music for decades and his stories are passed from generation to generation. Unfortunately, when asked about the greatest Canadian songwriters, Gordon is often left off the list. [...]

by teepoo Jerry Leger is one of those Canadian songwriters that sit beside Ron Sexsmith as one the many great ones. His album Traveling Grey is his fourth and does not fail to meet up to this expectation with his guitar story telling like the likes of in Truth is All Around You . "25 feels a lot like 243 , simple yet memorable line of this upbeat charismatic guitar pluckin' song. Jerry Leger- Truth is All Around You [...]

Much like American folk poet Joe Pug , Jerry Leger seems too young to understand and document the human condition so accurately. You wonder if Leger was born too late, missing out on his destined era. His preferred vocabulary and imagery could slide into coffee shops decades ago, when the song writer was embraced not just by the people attending show, but those trading songs in hotel room or back stage guitar pulls as they killed time waiting to take the stage. Leger's latest LP, Traveling Grey is a [...]

As always, it seems the good artists flood Halifax's venues in waves. We can go a few weeks with nothing but local acts and all of a sudden, three or four really great bands (well, well, that's what my iPOD playlist shows) roll in at once. Case in point? This week. I won't tread on Nadeau's week-end show posts, but two shows really grabbed my attention and I wanted to give them an extra bit of shine. Gypsophilia is prepping to release their new [...]

myspace It would be easy to talk about Jerry Leger and point out the talented musicians already in his corner. Knowing that Ron Sexsmith used to show up at his Toronto gigs, played piano on his last record and called him, " One of the best songwriters I've heard in quite some time " is probably enough praise to get most of you interested. Throw in the fact Josh Finlayson (Skydiggers) and Tim Bovacanti (Sexsmith's band) produced/played on You, Me and the Horse and it's pretty obvious that [...]
