It's new band hype time here at ATH, and today we're here to build some hype for newish Austin band Good Field . The band has an impressive resume featuring former members of Brazos, The Early Tapes, and even local legends Voxtrot. Paul Peirce originally started the band as a solo project but has since expanding to enlist the help of several friends and putting together a 4 track EP ( Said EP is actually available to stream for free on the band's website ). At their core, the band is a shoegaze pop group, but they also offer a [...]

Jesse Woods was a star wide receiver for Texas A&M before four surgeries brought him out of the game and into making music, a detour he says many of his former coaches and teammates, while supportive, don't necessarily "get". Ever since Jimmy introduced me to Woods's music, a comfortable place of rest between Fleet Foxes and The Tallest Man On Earth, ever since I heard the refrain "I'll be waiting in Northern California for ya" , I've been hooked on his saintly dreamfolk tinged with regret like an early morning beneath warm covers. [...]

Hurricane Irene has made her way up the East Coast, and is hitting the fine city of New York. In my frustration and free time simply sitting around, I have made you a very special playlist of new music that you can stream/download so that even when your power goes out, you can continue your listening. Enjoy the music and get your Jenga , Monopoly , Life , Scrabble , Risk and/or Sorry! on. Enjoy the music and please stay safe. [...]
Sparks - Jesse Woods Jesse Woods was a football star at his Texas high school and even played wide receiver for a few years at Texas A&M University. That was, however, before he traded the pigskin for a Gibson and began writing gentle songs not generally expected from an athletic, explosive personality type. Woods is a member of a crop of young musicians influenced by traditional American roots music who don't indulge in the unnecessary overproduction common to most radio friendly country hits (other members of the crew include [...]
Jack-of-all-trades Steffaloo puts ethereal spin on Feist, Jesse Woods, and yes, even Wham!
New Zealand band, The Naked and Famous have accomplished what many bands from the island country aspire to. In less than 5 years, The Naked & Famous have exploded into the international music scene with key U.S. support. Many of the band's tracks have been prominently featured in various U.S. pop culture programs such as Gossip Girl, and The Vampire Diaries. Embarking on a U.S. tour with The Foals, B-Sides got a few moments to talk about the band's take on their success, Nine Inch Nails, and future plans. The band's first full-length LP, 'Passive Me, [...]

Photo by Charlotte Zoller I have no clue how I landed on this Jesse Woods cover of Neon Indian's "Mind, Drips" but it's absolutely stunning.. Jesse released the song back in... **Summary** Go to website for downloads, videos & more.

So I put together a little list, and I'm exhausted. Why did I do this to myself? I get caught up in these lists and a ton of artists come to mind, each of them so deserving of their own place immortalized in the archives of friends' but I could only give them a few lines each. Instead of putting together a year-end 'best of' list, not necessarily albums, not necessarily current artists- simply artists that I discovered this year, in 2010. These artists made an impact on me in some way, whether it was just one of [...]

Jesse Woods has been a favorite of mine ever since I heard his Neon Indian cover of "Mind Drips". I think I've talked about him a few times on this blog, and I take full credit for anyone else turning on to him, I hope thats cool. He was also kind enough to contribute to the Mixtape Series . Anyway, he recently sent over some demos recorded with just $100 worth of equipment- that he prefaces, should be listened to as such. Yeah yeah yeah, Jesse, they still sound amazing. Enjoy. Jesse Woods- Gold in [...]
All Hearts Fail by takethesongsandrun

I swear that if I have to listen to another person debate the pros and cons of the home recording movement in indie music I'll stick a fork in my eye. Yes, people can record music on their laptops, yes some of it is good, and of course some of it (alot of it) is really really shitty. But, just as an old college roommate of mine once told me about girls, "You have to slay a few dragons to get to the princess"- the same can be said about music made in a less-than-pro studio. In this case, Jesse [...]

I'm paralyzed, the idea of writing about this dream of a song is what gives me the worst kind of writer's block. It feels born, not made. I won't do it anymore injustice by failing to write about it, but only say: Jesse Woods is an Austin, TX based artist who was discovered by the band Neon Indian. His debut EP, Moon Rocks , was released in August. Fans of A.A. Bondy, Bon Iver, and Blair are sure to enjoy. Jesse Woods - Sparks Buy Moon Rocks [...]

If you are looking for one last glimpse of that summer sound than I recommend the debut ep from Austin's Jesse Woods . Moon Rocks was released last month by the small boutique Venice Beach label Guns in the Sun who pressed 300 vinyls. Jesse captures the essence of the campfire crooner over these five tracks which include a cover of Neon Indian's "Mind, Drips". To give you an idea, Woods has been compared to Rocky Votolato, Bon Iver, and other. There is something so pure and genuine about his vocals. He is headed in the studio [...]

It's less than 60 days to the elections in November… my buddy The Prez "Obama" o' America has been hard on the warpath, doing his best to convince voters to go with Democrats. He's brought up plans like the $300 billion in tax incentives, he's been steadfast on ending the tax-cuts for the wealthy, and he's gone on ABC News to casually speak about how he deals with his kids, wife, and bad press. That's alotta-Obama in the past few days. I don't know where this will all lead to, but it's apparent that [...]

Who : Jesse Woods from Austin, TX. What : Jesse Woods has had an amazing summer. After being discovered straight out of his garage in Austin by Neon Indian to cover one of their songs ( Mind, Drips ), the Austin artist went on a grass roots tour up the west coast as support for Bill Baird's ( Sound Team ) new band Sunset . Before he left, he had the Neon Indian cover and the track below recorded, when he got home, an EP was finished. [...]
