De bezoekers van het Incubate festival in Tilburg (13 tot en met 20 september) konden kiezen uit een kleine 200 optredens. Daarnaast waren er tentoonstellingen en veel aandacht voor Hermann Nitsch , de Oostenrijkse kunstenaar die met schilderijen, films en een door hem zelf geregisseerde Aktion van de partij was. Maar het was mij vooral om de muziek op Incubate te doen. Daarvoor moest je niet zozeer bij Nitsch zijn: het snerpende kabaalorkest (fluitjes, ratels, blazers en synthesizer) die de indringende acties tijdens de performance accentueerden, was letterlijk oorverdovend. Ook ik ben wel 'ns in de war. Het zal wel met de leeftijd te maken hebben. Zo was ik druk bezig om iets te schrijven over het erg mooie nieuwe album van Shannon Wright , Honeybee Girls. Ik wilde het op tijd af hebben omdat ik in de veronderstelling was dat Shannon komend weekend in ons land zou optreden. En daar wilde ik wat aandacht aan besteden. Maar in mijn enthousiasme heb ik Shannon Wright en Jessica Bailiff door elkaar gehaald. Geen van beide dames maakt erg laagdrempelige muziek, maar hun aanpak en geluid verschilt toch [...]

Once upon a time, when I was a younger girl, and had more expendable income to jizz on records, I fell in love with Kranky. The Chicago-based label lured me into its web of aural delight, took me behind the rainbow and over the edge of the horizon.
