Not so much a Top 10 list, as there is plenty of music I haven't heard this year, but these 10 albums represent the discs that rarely made it out of rotation on my iPod or Spotify account. These are the albums that I turned to when I was happy, when I was caught in a blinding moment of despair, when I needed someone else's words to articulate the emotions swirling in my head, if only to allow me the chance to breathe in, breathe out, and steady the ship. Music has that power - to soothe, to [...]

So, as the New Year approaches, here are our favourite albums of 2011 for your consideration. Feel free to dispute, argue, or otherwise put us right because, if nothing else, music is as about as subjective topic as it is possible to get. Some of these may not be the "best" albums of the year as far as the critics are concerned, but that matters not, as they were the ones we enjoyed listening to most - give them a try, you might feel the same. 50 Jessica Lea Mayfield [...]

A list of our favorite albums of 2011. Below you'll find the records that meant the most to me this year. A smaller list than in previous years which is a result of these records remaining in heavy rotation all year combined with an equal amount of time spent listening to records not released this year. [Note: this list does not include releases from the artists I work with directly] Bon Iver | Bon Iver ( buy ) MP3: Bon Iver - "Holocene" [...]

Thurston Moore at Williamsburg Waterfront. Photo by anonymous Live music in 2011 saw several newer bands consolidate their hold on greatness, while well-established acts from the 90s brought out crowds for reunion shows and, sadly, farewells. For those of us at the site, we were inspired by crowds of people who were, in a lot of cases, younger than we were checking out bands like Archers of Loaf live for the first time, or finally gaining appreciation for the work of artists like Cass McCombs and Bill Callahan. At the same time, favorite new or [...]

photos by David Andrako Jessica Lea Mayfield , who is opening for Ryan Adams at Carnegie Hall on 12/6 , toured through NYC earlier this month when she hit Glasslands on 11/17 with local Daniel Wayne and Ri¢hie ... "This was the most packed I've seen Glasslands on a Thursday in ages, and it's not hard to see why. Mayfield's latest record, the Dan Auerbach-produced Tell Me , moves Mayfield beyond her neo-country [...]

[Photos by Dominick Mastrangelo ] Jessica Lea Mayfield sure is a heartbreaker. She has the affect of the pretty, reserved, stonerish girl in the back of the class - you always wondered what that girl was thinking. If that girl actually was Mayfield, well, that girl would have a hell of a lot deeper feelings than her air of ironic detachment might suggest. She'd be all-but-given-up on God ("Bible Days"), head-over-heels in love ("The One That I Love Best"), or maybe flat-out horny "Grown Man." And that voice of hers... well, it would hold your [...]

Photo of Ray Davies compliments of the artist Here are this weekend's XPN Welcomes concerts. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 18 Bell X1 is Ireland's best barely-kept secret. The group, originally known as Juniper, used to feature Damien Rice as its lead singer; unfortunately, it's still often recognized for that fact, rather than for its Talking Heads- and Flaming Lips-inspired fusion of rock and electronic music. Bell X1 is a sensation in Ireland, nominated for Best Irish Band at the Meteor Music Awards three different times. It was also nominated [...]

Bumbershoot 2011 Day Two (September 4th, 2011 - Seattle, Washington) **Atari Teenage Riot Maybe it was a mistake to kick-off the second, glorious, sunny day of Bumbershoot (a fun, colloquial way of saying umbrella), Seattle's annual international music and arts festival, by arriving at 6pm after seven hours on an airplane, and walking straight into the dark pit of the Exhibition Hall music stage. Watching Anti-Flag rage incoherently about social injustice to a group of half-interested, disaffected, fans who couldn't be convinced to mosh or crowd surf despite the [...]

More awesomeness that is Bumbershoot. Pictures and narrative from Day 2 includes shots of Atari Teenage Riot, The Kills, Tennis, Carbon Leaf, and Jessica Lea Mayfield.

When i was looking through the bumbershoot lineup i found Jessica Lea Mayfield. I've only heard this one songs of hers and i literally replayed it 4 times in a row because its pretty, pretty, pretty, good(in voice of larry david). I don't know anything about this girl yet, but by the time she visits i will. For now it looks like i'll be skipping Das Racists to watch her on sunday. <div class="topspin-widget topspin-widget-email-for-media "> <object type="application/x-shockwave- flash" width="300" height="400" id="TSWidget38651" data=" http://cdn.topspin.net/widgets /email2/swf/TSEmailMediaWidget .swf?timestamp=1314598563" bgColor="#000000"> <param value="always" name="allowScriptAccess"/> [...]

The Bottletree is Birmingham's best kept secret. Bands that play there are constantly raving about it in a way that you never hear other venues discussed. Case in point, in a recent interview with Pitchfork, Cults called it their favorite venue. Friday night The Bottletree played host to the last date of Jessica Lea Mayfield 's tour - it was quite an intimate experience. You listen to Mayfield on her records and you expect a woman weathered by years of battles with love. You see her live and you [...]
