marc riley just played a song from this album, and almost from the first bar i knew i had to have it. thanks emusic. can't tell you much about jessica , except she's from ohio, the album was produced by a guy from the black lips, and she strikes me as a mixture of chan marshall, jana hunter and maybe neko case?? anyway, here's that song... ::: jessica lea mayfield - kiss me again coming soon: beatnik filmstars, great leap forward and fucked up

If you would've asked me two years ago if i liked music from females, my short answer would have been no. And then i would have gone into a "but, i kinda like...." consisting of a few songs here and there. i don't know who to credit with opening my eyes to the beauty of female crooners ( most likely Kasey Chambers... ), but sometime over the last couple years i've come to enjoy more and more music from women. It's gotten to the point now where the gender of the artist doesn't matter one bit - as [...]

I originally read about Jessica Lea Mayfield's new album, With Blasphemy So Heartfelt , over on HearYa . Oz's story about a middle school friend of his that had died sort of stuck with me all day and I tossed the album into my cd player when I got home that afternoon. Here in the last few years I've reached this weird station in life where I am young, I feel young but at the same time I've had a few friends/acquaintances die of totally natural causes. It kind of makes you acknowledge your own mortality in a [...]

Jessica Lea Mayfield. Only 19, yet already sounds like a weary veteran of love's battles. A li'l bit of country, a li'l bit of bluegrass, a lot of mood. This album is drenched in it. It wallows in it. Her cd, With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt , is one of my favorite new albums of 2008. Here is 'Kiss Me Again', the first track. Jessica Lea Mayfield - Kiss Me Again

MP3 : You've Won Me Over Here's a song from the debut full length album from 18 year old Kent, OH singer/songwriter Jessice Lea Mayfield . It was produced by Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys. I first heard her thanks to a post on I Rock Cleveland . The album is a great combination of lazy, strummy folk that sometimes goes a little twangy, and it sometimes goes in the direction of Mazzy Star. Be sure to check out her MySpace page [...]

Nee, een fan van de Black Keys ben ik niet. Maar dat is waarschijnlijk geen verrassing als je dit weblog een beetje in de gaten houdt. Maar ik ben wel erg gecharmeerd van het debuut van Jessica Lea Mayfield . Mayfield viel op met haar vocale bijdrage aan "Things Ain't Like They Used to Be" op het Black Keys album Attack & Release. Haar album With Blasphemy So Heartfelt is geproduceerd door Dan Auerbach van de Keys. Auerbach speelt ook mee op het album en ook leden van Dr. Dog zijn van de [...]

There were lots of choices for this week's mix, and I've tried to make it more of an upbeat mix this time around. Even the Ray LaMontagne is a feel-good dittie. Plastilina Mosh is defeinitely a high point for me. The Swedish duo First Aid Kit released their version of Fleet Foxes' Tiger Mountain Peasant Song in a YouTube video weeks ago, and were kind enough to re-record it in the studio. The harmonies are just cool. Arsenal are a Belgian duo- not the lame football club from London. They asked Offfice 's Scott [...]
You didn't think just because we gave you our One Year Anniversary Mixtape earlier this week meant that there would be no Friday Mixtape today, did you? Of course not! After all, how else would you get your fix of the week's newest singles with a bunch of other mp3s worth checking out? After listenin' to the melancholy 'n hauntin' sounds of Jessica Lea Mayfield's debut, the doctors and nursemaids' tear ducts are droppin' tears as big as elephants into our glasses of prescription whiskey. Patients, it's quite possible that you heard the Tree City songstress, Mayfield harmonizin' on the Black Keys' "Things Aren't Like They Used To Be" offa Attack & Release . On Tuesday, she released her debut studio album, With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt . Produced and recorded during a two-year window by Dan Auerbach of Black Keys fame, Mayfield sounds like she has black [...]
One of the first things you notice about Jessica Lea Mayfield, besides that powerful voice of an old, heavy soul who's lived through a ten lives of hard times, is how she can turn a song on its end with the twist of a single phrase. At the beginning of "We've Never Lied," as Mayfield slowly strums her guitar, and states, quite remorsefully, "Kiss me like you love me/I'll pretend we've never lied," there seems to be a small glimmer of hope that a broken releationship can be mended. However, as it progresses, she reveals who's really in control of [...]

I received some horrible news last week. I saw a message on Facebook that a good middle school friend of mine died of a stroke in his apartment. His body wasn't discovered for days. I don't know if it was the news of his death at the age of 30, that he died alone, that he left a child behind, or maybe that no one bothered to check on him for several days, but the news really shook me. Johnny was a big guy. He was big in stature, big in personality, and he had a heart that [...]

When two of your favorite artists endorse a fellow musician, you take notice. Scott Avett (of the Avett Bros) and Dan Auerbach (of The Black Keys) sing the praises of this singer (the ladder produced her debut which comes out 9-16). Not only do Scott and Dan dig them, two of my favorite bloggers Heather and Bruce have also giving Jess two thumbs up. Jessica Lea Mayfield has a haunting voice that uses reverb as well as Jim James. With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt (which is the perfect title for [...]

Me and brent will both be out of town this weekend, so there probably won't be many posts. But here is this month's mix for you to enjoy over the weekend. Some of the songs we have posted on already but are just too good to keep off the mix, others are brand spankin' new. As always, if you like what you hear buy the album/EP/etc. Enjoy. Holy crap, it's already September! I ushered out the unofficial end of summer/Labor Day Weekend with a camping trip that found me sleeping in a real, live, badass teepee after being eaten alive by mosquitoes while making several s'mores. AND I got five bugbites on my face . That's just hot any way you look at it. I've also been developing Space Bar Wrist (new ailment) while trying fruitlessly to crack the leader board on the new awesomely '80s Monolith [...]

I think in this picture you can really feel the bass below your feet! I know I know, you can punch me for that one, but you gotta admit that it looks pretty rad! Jessica Lea Mayfield is pretty much one of the luckier 18 year old singer songwriters out there, yes yes I know she's talented but come on, how often does your debut album get produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and then parade it with your brother playing the stand-up0 in opening sequences all over a U.S. Black Keys tour? [...]

Friday, August 29, 2008 Alright, the wife and I are off to take on the greatest road trip ever. I hope you all have a wonderfully safe and awesome two weeks without me. As a parting gift, I give to you one more snazzy EP, which brings the total of artists shared this week to a whopping 25! Enjoy. BTW, part of our trip includes Bumbershoot, so there's a small chance I may write a tiny review of that. [...]

I'm going to let you in on a little secret: When you hear Jessica Lea Mayfield's new disc, With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt, you are going to be thoroughly impressed. Some of you may recognize her as the young artist from Kent who used to play gigs around town under the name Chittlin', others may recognize the name from a guest spot on The Black Keys' last album, Attack and Release. Well, she's going by her god given name these days, and with such a heavy heart, such an old soul, and such a powerful voice for a woman [...]
Jessica Lea Mayfield is a singer-songwriter from Kent, Ohio. Her debut album, With Blasphemy So Heartfelt , was produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and features her brother, Auerbach on various instruments, and Scott McMicken, guitarist from Dr. Dog. I can't remember the last time I was so transfixed by a singer; maybe Jim James or M. Ward or Iris Dement or Cat when she's at her most beautiful or Lucinda singing "Something About What Happens When We Talk". Perhaps you caught your first taste of Mayfield on the closing [...]
