Sundown / Sunrise EP by jesu As many of y'all know, I wasn't huge on Jesu's last album, Ascension . For me, the mix wasn't heavy enough, and nothing really struck me as memorable. All we can do at this point is go back and listen to old Jesu. Thankfully, the band is making that easy with the digital reissue of an EP that was dropped in '07. Sundown / Sunrise is streamable above, and you can grab it on Bandcamp for six bones . Enjoy!
Whether you're a pesto shrimp kinda gal or a spicy sausage man, hopefully one thing the two sexes can agree upon is that Justin Broadrick's Jesu project is fucking beautiful. It rocks, it's haunting, super earnest.....the perfect soundtrack for a late-night getting-to-know-you lovefest. -KW
One of the things that I love most about underground metal is that so many diehard fans fulfill so many roles within the metal community. A lot of the kids that you see at the grind show are also in bands. The dude rockin' out at the front might own a distro. That girl might [...]
The story of Osho—master, mystic, madman… "Trying to define Osho is like trying to imprison a rainbow or catch a cloud that's floating through your room. Like sand, he slips through your fingers: like a sparkling drops of dew, his magic vanishes with the rising sun of definition. Samuel Johnson, in his Preface to Shakespeare, [...]
Is there music more epic on this earth than Justin K. Broadrick 's? I know "epic" is an overused term in Interwebs discourse these days but with Ascension , Broadrick's one-man project Jesu 's first conventional full-length since 2007's drone-metal classic, Conqueror , even its short song titles inspire vision of a grand sweep (e.g."King of Kings", "Brave New World"). And Broadrick's output justifies the word. It's not like he's been resting on his laurels for four years since Conqueror : two splits, a one-track drone opus, three EPs, and a [...]
I'm just not enjoying this like I have Jesu's past work. I'm sad. WATCH THE REVIEW
Iroha is a UK metal band that produces a heavy, blissful sound that is pretty comparable to Jesu's. That shouldn't be a surprise since the guy spearheading this project is Andy Swan. He's said to have worked with Justin K. Broadrick in one of his previous bands, Final; plus, Iroha itself even features Jesu's Diarmuid Dalton. There are a lot of parallels, similarities, and connections here, no doubt. But Iroha's self-titled debut is still worth checking out if you love your rock loud and hazy. On "Last Day of Summer," chords doom slowly and patiently against [...]

Tim Mclean, having just wrapped up a seven week run working a carnival in Edmonton, called his girlfriend Alexandra Storey a little after midnight on July 30, 2008 that he was on his way home to Manitoba and then settled in for the 850 mile bus trip. He sent her dozens of texts as the [...]
Jesu Ascension Calo Verde As a general rule, I wouldn't recommend the creative path Justin K. Broadrick has chosen with his projects Jesu and Pale Sketcher, steering his heavier music to one (Jesu) and the more electronic based music to the other (Pale Sketcher). Why not have one project that encompasses elements of both, with a rockin' track here and something more mellow there? Wouldn't that produce a more fulfilling experience for the listener? How are you going to ensure the quality of both projects? Wouldn't you be better off with [...]

Jesu - Ascension Release date: May 10, 2011 You can tell this is an older photograph because overprotective moms and governments don't like children having fun on spinny thingies. And because there are no quasi-hipsters with iPods in the actual playground.

In case you haven't heard, Jesu is a three piece post metal-band with Justin Broadrick as their frontman. Justin is jack of all trades, performing all of the instruments and vocals alone, back in 2004 on their first EP. Needless to say, what Mary was to Jesus, Broadrick is to Jesu; a proud parent. During my first listen to the album, I thought, "Hmm, not my cup of tea, but may be more suitable for a bus full of dead people." However, as I kept getting more familiar with the album, I realized I was wrong. Jesu's album [...]
This week is more action-packed than a Richard Simmons tape. You need to be jamming stuff from Manchester Orchestra , Man Man , Ben Sollee , Joan of Arc , Le Butcherettes and Jesu . In the "haven't made it all the way through yet, but you know it isn't bad" category, we've got The Lonely Island , Here We Go Magic , Zombi , Moving Mountains , Sam Roberts Band and Oxbow . I'm pretty sure I missed some [...]

Stream: Jesu- Birthday Justin K. Broadrick's Jesu is gearing up for another album. May 10th will see the release of Ascension, which features the track "Birthday." The guitar chords here are as rough as ever, and get a nice backup from some sparkling synths, too. Justin's voice comes of pretty robotic as well. This LP will see Broadrick going back to what I assume his fans like seeing him do most: Pump out drone-y, uplifting doom jams that rumble the hi-fi. Unfortunately, the 49-minute track and [...]
News Because I'm guessing - and I know I'm going way, way out on a limb here - that the song is sadder than watching child burn victims watch a puppy get run over. Just a guess. It's not based on anything, really, other than every other Jesu song ever. But I'm sure the song, "Small [...]
