Playing essentially the same set list from their South By Southwest showcase, legendary Scottish band Jesus and Mary Chain played a show that illustrated perfect examples of what is best and worst about these types of reunions. You have to love a band like San Diego's Crocodiles for being able to channel their obvious influences (Jesus & Mary Chain / Echo & the Bunnymen / Spacemen 3) into creating a sound that mines this genre without sounding derivative. A tour is brewing for The Jesus and Mary Chain . After recently being announced for North Carolina's Hopscotch this September, the UK shoegaze outfit has issued a bracket of dates for mid-June. It's not much, but the band's website indicates that more dates will be announced shortly. I'm a lucky guy. At this year's South by Southwest, I had the chance to see The Jesus and Mary Chain's midnight gig at The Belmont . It was the perfect storm of intimate venue, sizable crowd, great weather, and the band being as witty and on the ball as possible. It's got to be good to be Glen Hansard these days. Over the last five-plus years, the Irish singer-songwriter starred in the critically acclaimed movie Once, won an Oscar for Best Original Song, toured relentlessly with The Swell Season, while concurrently being filmed for a documentary, and is now seeing his work on the big screen adapted into a Broadway musical. At a recent show in London's Royal Albert Hall, Feist, and her current tour mate M. Ward, took the stage together to cover the Jesus and Mary Chain's "Sometimes Always." The song was the first single from the JAMC's fifth album Stoned and Dethroned. Originally a duet between Jim Reid and Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval, the single had an alt-rock acoustic sound, which was newer territory for the brothers, but concurrent with the overall direction of Stoned and Dethroned. Still more coverage of the conference left...
