The fourth annual Pitchfork Music Festival goes down July 17-19 at Chicago's Union Park. Tickets go on sale March 13th. This year marks a small change in format, as Friday night's performances will be "Write the Night: Set Lists by Request". When you purchase your ticket you'll be given a link to vote for which songs you'd like to hear the band's play. The idea of an all-request Yo La Tengo show makes me giddy. Here is the initial lineup, with many more to be announced soon. [...]

Ironically, not reported first by Pitchfork , but instead by respected Chicago Sun Times music critic Jim DeRogatis [via The Daily Swarm ], the 2009 Pitchfork Music Festival will be dropping their "Don't Look Back" classic-album theme, and instead will allow fans the chance to come up with the set lists as part of a new series called "Write The Night: Set Lists By Request." According to DeRogatis' posts, the acts announced so far for Friday, July 17, are Built to Spill , reunited Chicago noise-rock legends the [...]

Well the dates (July 17-19) were actually announced last week and it will be returning to Union Park right next to downtown Chicago, but now we have some confirmed bands on this thing. Last year's lineup was ridiculous (see above photo) but the experience was soured a little by the cramped conditions and savage downpour on Saturday, hopefully the weather will cooperate a little more this year. List so far after the jump. The first night will be a fan created setlist night, which is an awesome idea, so if you buy [...]

The Pitchfork Music Festival is starting to roll out the acts playing Chicago's Union Park July 17-19, with the slate for Friday night—where bands will play setlists chosen by ticket buyers—being announced. The lineup is loaded with indie's elders: Built to Spill , Yo La Tengo , Tortoise (wait, who knows names of Tortoise songs?) and the reunited Jesus Lizard . Built to Spill and Yo La Tengo are obvious big names for the Pitchfork set, and Tortoise can likely coast on Millions Now Living Will Never Die [...]

Oh, Pitchfork is doing things with real class this year when they return to Union Park in Chicago the weekend of July 17-19 for the annual Pitchfork Music Festival. Not that they haven't been classy affairs in the past, but it seems they're looking to one-up themselves this year in particular. There's been a small portion of the lineup leaked out (nothing has been posted on Pitchfork's website as of my writing this), though I'm betting word will have spread by mid-afternoon today. So here's the lowdown for 2009. Night 1 - Write the [...]
Via Chicago Breaking News:The reunited Jesus Lizard will play its first hometown show in 11 years July 17 at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park, promoters will announce Friday. The noise-rock quartet broke up in 1999, but the original lineup of David Yow, Duane Denison, David Wm. >> We had completely forgotten how much we were anticipating the release of the full-length debut from Dananananaykroyd until the band posted the video above for the exceptional new single "Black Wax." The track, whose b-side is the non-album track "No Wage," is taken from the sure-to-be-gigante long-player Hey Everyone! , which will be released by London-based Best Before Records April 6. Get ready to embrace your Glaswegian fight pop overlords by pre-ordering the set from BanquetRecords right here . The "Black Wax" single streets March 23 in the U.K., and it is also being vended [...]

With record stores large and small closing as a result of a crummy economy and ongoing changes in how music is consumed, the idea of Record Store Day seems like a quaint misplaced sentiment. Still, for a noise rock geek like me, this April 18th "event" might be too enticing to resist since there [...]
While promoting his recent solo release Happy In Galoshes , Scott Weiland let slip that Stone Temple Pilots will be releasing a record sometime in 2010. The stars are aligned the DeLeo brothers have begun writing music and Scott's back on heroin. The Swiss hardcore band Solid Ground has recorded one final EP This World Keeps Spinning Without You before breaking it off as a group. Let it Burn Records is making it available as a free [...]

Though we've only received information in dribs and drabs regarding the Jesus Lizard reunion, I'm so damn giddy about it. So far, a mere three May dates have been confirmed, two of these being an already announced All Tomorrow's Parties UK weekender "The Fans Strike Back" and the third being the Primavera Sound festival, [...]

Pitchfork TV has a bunch of live videos from The Jesus Lizard in 1994 over at their website. Below is one of my favorite tracks of theirs. R.I.P Touch and Go Records.

This week venerable Chicago indie Touch and Go Records announced they will cease to release new music. This sucks... I grew up on T&G - they held an ethic that was second to none. No contracts with bands, just handshake, 50/50 deals. They released amazing records by Big Black, The Butthole Surfers, Girls Against Boys, Slint, The Jesus Lizard and countless others. Please check out Pitchfork this week as they are offering a full concert video of The Jesus Lizard live from 1994. I had the privilege of seeing [...]
As a tribute to not-quite dearly departed Chicago indie stalwart Touch and Go, Pitchfork TV posted video of one of its essential artists performing in their most exciting capacity--live. To watch cathartic chaos personified, head over here to watch The Jesus Lizard perform "Destroy Before Read" and "Puss". Or watch the video at the top of the post. Either way, just sit down and watch. It's

It hurts my heart to report this, but Touch and Go Records has announced that it will shut down its distribution and stop putting out new albums . In addition to being one of the best labels of the last 30 years and being responsible for furthering the careers of more than a few iconic indie rockers, they also distribute releases for Merge , Kill Rock Stars , Drag City , Suicide Squeeze , Flameshovel , Jade Tree and Post Present Medium . In other words, uh oh. [...]
