Over here at ATH we've been raving about Tiger Waves for some time, but we hadn't seen the young band in the live setting just yet. So, we jumped at the chance to catch the boys over at Frank , along with a few other local Austin acts, Milk Thistle and Gentleman Rogues . Read on for our thoughts. First, I'd really like to impress upon you how great the sound at Frank [...]

whaaaa? 4 posts in one day? that hasnt happened since probably 2007! well i dont know if you can really count this, technically, as a post cause its actually a repost, but hey im logging in more than twice in a day! actually i log in quite a bit and actually start a lot of posts, but then never finish em for one reason or another. i probably have over 100 drafts of random shit that i shouldve gotten around to. sad thing is, its not like anyone comes here for the editorial content so i dont know what i [...]

One of our favorite Web series, the ace "Dirty Laundry", continued their reign of profiling the excellent when they pulled Forgetters, the band that came from the wake of other wondrous indie rock acts from the mind/spirit of Blake Schwarzenbach, formerly of Jets To Brazil and Jawbreaker, to name just a few. The three-piece band [...]

Label Me is an education. A schoolin'. A lesson on the most interesting indie Record Labels of current and bygone days. Imagine you're sitting across from Ricky in a dark, smoky, bar booth and he's had a few too many to drink and there's no stopping him now. Words by Rick Moslen Jimmy Eat World and Thursday are touring. The Get Up Kids and Braid are [...]

Forgetters is Blake Schwarzenbach's latest project. I hope this one lasts longer than his last project, Thorns of Life, which I quite enjoyed as well. Rather than ramble on about whether or not this new material sounds more like Jawbreaker, or more like Jets to Brazil, I'll let you listen to "The Night Accelerates" below. Blake is joined by former Against Me! drummer Kevin Mahon and bass player Caroline Pacquita. Seems like the same type line up as Thorns of Life, but I haven't confirmed if his bassist was part of the ensemble [...]
The acoustic side project for Jets to Brazil bassist Jeremy Chatelain. The self-titled track of CC's debut album which is full of mellow, sit-back-and-open-the-window jams just like this.
forgetters perform "I'm Not Immune" in Chicago from WBEZ on Vimeo . In its first year of existence, Blake Schwarzenbach's new trio, forgetters, has released exactly one double seven-inch . With one song per side. That's three trips to the turntable just to listen to four songs. I like the throwback nature of the release on double vinyl, despite all the effort, and I am slowly coming around on the songs. If you're a Jawbreaker fan it's difficult to listen to any of Blake Schwarzenbach's subsequent bands without yearning for him to let [...]
:: Spin has some rare Joy Division photos, all of which feature Ian Curtis looking weird/awkward/creepy . But what would you expect? In addition to just being Ian Curtis, dude was also British... :: Looks like the new Manchester Orchestra album will be called Simple Math . :: Pretty obvious that Orange Rhyming Dictionary from Jets to Brazil is a great album. Buddy Nielsen of Senses Fail agrees liked it so much that he stole his copy from an ex-girlfriend . [...]
Had I not stumbled upon Matthew Berlyant's review of the debut double 73 by forgetters on The Big Takeover website last week, I probably would have missed this show. As it was, the mere mention of a new band featured ex- Jawbreaker / Jets to Brazil singer/guitarist Blake Schwarzenbach was enough to make me fire up Google and find out anything and everything I could about forgetters (no "the" and lowercase "f", thank you very much). There's not a lot out there, but I did find some [...]

Here's some things I listened to last week. Feel free to tell me what you listened to by leaving your list in the comment section below. No Age Saw these guys open for Pavement a few weeks back, can think of a few different ways to describe them: 1) "Like Times New Viking but with tuned instruments" 2) "Nirvana covering My Bloody Valentine" Stream the new CD here . Bad City Love it when kids play homage to '80s glam [...]

For the past year, I've been inexplicably haunted by Jawbreaker. It's inevitable that musically inclined people of a certain age and sensibility feel very, very strongly about Jawbreaker; I, by contrast, have always felt a certain ambivalence towards the band. Still, every barbeque this year had a secret but familiar soundtrack, a trip to my favorite bar on what is usually metal night yielded all of Dear You , multiple friends' Facebook statuses have all urged me that "it sounded good, I felt ashamed, I knew every drum fill." The moment anyone has stopped [...]

Can't believe it's Thanksgiving already. Here's a little playlist I threw together. Based it more on the mood of the songs than the lyrics. It's best for the after dinner tryptophanic/drunk slumber. Share it with the family and friends while you reminisce and share stories about each others lives. Happy Thanksgiving!!!! MP3 :: Monarques - Everybody Needs Somebody To Love MP3 :: Bowerbirds - Northern Lights MP3 :: The Walkmen - New Country MP3 :: Volcano Choir - Sleepymouth [...]

Flight of The Conchords I'm keeping up my glacial pace of one post per month, so here's some songs to keep you sated. I'm going to see The Wrens and The Pixies over the next couple of weeks so hope to get some good posts up. thanks, mike Denali - Gunner (mp3) Beach House - Norway (mp3) Volcano Choir - Island, IS (mp3) The Promise Ring - Red Paint (mp3) Flight of the Conchords - Sugarlumps (mp3) [...]

[Pavement] These are just some of the many many songs I listened to back in high school and beyond. So nostalgic MP3 :: Architecture In Helsinki - Kindling from Fingers Crossed MP3 :: Pavement - Gold Soundz from Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain MP3 :: Built To Spill - Center Of The Universe from Keep It Like A Secret MP3 :: Bright Eyes - Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh from Fevers And [...]
Photos from the new band from Blake (Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil) and Kevin (Against Me!) live at the Lit Lounge in New York City.
:: Turns out Glenn Beck is a big fan of Muse . Who knew? I'm also assuming Larry King is a big Kings of Leon fan, too. :: Sign of the apocalypse number 2,519: Cobra Starship 's new album is projected to move 40,000 units in its first week. Everybody in the bunker. :: Nettwerk is looking for some rubes eager go-getters to work as interns . So if you live in New York and want to hobnob with the people who hobnob with [...]

Image From Here If you have been reading MNG for awhile now, you will definitely know that I like lists. I am trained as an Electrical Engineer and was one for 18 years. I like order instead of chaos and things to be listed a certain way. It may be the fact of my formal Engineering training or more of the fact that I am somewhat an obsessive compulsive person. I have done many posts that feature lists like the Shoegaze top ten, 80's by year the band was formed (still gotta finish [...]
