You're probably worryingly aware that most artist's biographies hammer on pointlessly, portentously explaining how the second to last guitar note on the album came to them in a vision where Dave Sitek floated down from his regal musical cloud on high and whispered "Give F# a whack, my son" in their ear. You're not? Well, the ones that I end up reading do spend far too long trying to explain just how painfully relevant and authentic they are with such anecdotes. But even though I had already fallen for San Francisco's [...]

I love getting band recommendations from friends & from stranger. It is impossible to find everything by myself, so it is always helpful when a friend recommends a fresh new act for me to check out. This happened this weekend when my friend Broker sent me an email with the title of "check out this band". The only thing in the e-mail was a link to the myspace page of a band called Jetskiis . If your reading this Broker, thank you very much! Jetskiis are a fresh band straight out of San Francisco who are bound [...]

The April mixtape consists of a collection of tracks that will be featured on upcoming releases that I'm eagerly anticipating such as the National and the Black Keys; a few tracks that weren't eligible for the Motown mix because of the time period when the were recorded (Syreeta & the Temptations); some exciting miscellaneous tracks that have been released so far this month (Nas + Gil Scott Heron & Chiddy Bang); some exciting new discoveries (Jetskiis & Hooray For Earth); and a number of old favorites including the XX, Aesop Rock, Southeast Engine, Millionyoung, and Matt & Kim. Straight out of my favourite city, San Francisco, come Jetskiis . They've got that laid back, reverb-drenched sound that is the musical equivalent of waves crashing on the beach, while guitars wail in the background like hungry seagulls. With such a perfect sound these guys are worth watching, so catch them if you can - they're playing at the Hemlock Tavern in their hometown on May 21st, and their Jeremy Black produced album Spraycation is hitting the shelves soon. Jetskiis are a San Francisco-based five-piece formed by "a singer living under house arrest, a bassist without a valid mailing address, two recently unemployed drummers, and a guitarist in the midst of a gender epiphany." If you were to think that sounds like the perfect combination of people to devote some serious time to form a unique band and begin work on an awesome debut - you'd be right. On Spraycation , Jetskiis fill a darkly atmospheric soundscape with spiraling guitars riffs, crisp bass and distant driving percussion to craft a sound they describe [...]
Icy, temperamental post-punk-infused indie rock that swells and sweeps, San Francisco's Jetskiis are still very much an unknown act, despite the great efforts of the band and the coverage they've already received. We'll let their songs do the talking for...

The recently-overhauled Milk Bar is slowly transforming into a go-to live music space in San Francisco. The venue has found a niche playing host to a variety of locally-themed indie rock shows over in the Haight, and with any luck, will continue on this same path. Case in point: this Wednesday, March 31st (8:30 pm, $7), Milk will host two local bands and one welcome out-of-town guest. Fake Your Own Death will headline, a fairly new band comprised of members from Elephone . JETSKIIS will open, another group formed from other bands [...]

I was about to write a post about Jetskiis being chillwave with cojones but decided it would be a disservice to Jetskiis to lump them in with chillwave. There's a bit more going on here. Jetskiis is a new band out of San Francisco that falls somewhere between Roxy Music and the xx - filtered, atmospheric and above all moody. "Bodymore" is a bit of a backwards love song - love sorted out by the process of elimination. Or maybe it's not even love. Best thing to hit my ears in weeks, [...]
