Like one the many music bloggers in the world, great music doesn't stop coming our way. Luckily this was the case with The Jezabels . I was checking my inbox one day and sitting there is this absolutely gorgeous song from the group's latest EP Dark Storm . Next thing I knew, I had it on repeat and kept finding more and more things to love about it. Once I got my hands on the full EP I became an unstoppable force of listening. This is the third EP from the Sydney group and [...]

Sometimes when you see a band live, you just know they are the real deal. Seeing the Jezabels at Fat Baby during CMJ was exactly this moment. With three enormous EPs in the can, a full length on the way in 2011 and certain label interest, they are one of our break out acts of the next year. Last week we traded some emails about fear of cruise ships, shooting pool and what the hell is next, you

Macy Spray (Acoustic) - The Jezabels Macy Spray (Acoustic) - The Jezabels ( Free Download ) Australia's The Jezabels were without a doubt one of the highlights of my CMJ experience. Before I ever had a chance to see them plugged in and firing on all cylinders, I was treated to sweet seductive vocals of Hayley Mary in a stripped down setting. Though our session nearly didn't happen, the band found a way to come through a delivered one of the most spectacular acoustic versions of a song I'd ever heard. [...]

Frank Yang The "see something new" mandate largely fell apart on the third night of Halifax Pop Explosion , but with good reason; when you get the opportunity to see Basia Bulat perform with a symphony, you take it. Bulat was the third artist to be brought together with Symphony Nova Scotia as part of the Pop Explosion, Ron Sexsmith and Owen Pallett had done so in past years, and it was Pallett who crafted the orchestral arrangements of Bulat's songs for this performance which took place in [...]

LISA MITCHELL Indie/Pop/Folk Myspace | Website | Twitter While television shows like American Idol rarely ever find musicians who can translate successfully into popular music sphere, it seems as if a shy Aussie beat the slim odds. Lisa Mitchell , an Australian Idol alum, stood out on the talent show for her coy, singer-songwriter demeanor. Released in 2009, Mitchell recorded her debut full-length Wonder in the UK, which has now reached Platinum in Australia. Canadians who do not know her might have [...]
~ The Jezabels - "Mace Spray" ~ From the EP Dark Storm , out October 1, 2010.

The Jezabels - Sahara Mahala When I first heard The Jezabels ' "Mace Spray" , there were three names that came to mind- Neko Case , Florence Welch and Amy Lee . Never mind whether any of these comparisons are accurate, because there's really only one name that matters. And that name is Hayley Mary . Sure, she may have the appearance of any ol' Plain Jane , but this girl's been blessed with a phenomenal vocal presence. Your attention is demanded within the first note that [...]
Already written about in a million little places, The Jezabels are making their bid for something real in the next few hundred hours. With a three EPs released over the last 18-months, the band bring their latest, Dark Storm, to New York for CMJ where they are one of our odds on favorites to emerge with serious buzz and the interest of a rain-making label here in the States. On "Mace Spray," the

Sydney, Australia's The Jezebels are set to head out on a national tour of Canada in support of Two Hours Traffic following the recent release of their new EP Dark Storm, out October 1st. Before Canada though, and having heard a little from them, this might be one of those must-see bands to track down during CMJ. The Jezebels have toured Australia since the release of their EP She's So Hard in November 2009, supporting artists like Tegan & Sara , Katie Noonan and Josh Pyke [...]

The more I hear, the more I love. Hurt Me - The Jezabels Bought their 2009 EP She's So Hard this weekend - a five track stunner. Driving beats, melodies and hooks that rattle around my head for days and the outstanding vocal talents of lead singer Hayley Mary. Though The Jezabels only have two EPs under their belt, I'm hanging out for a full length release and I predict great things to come. Keep an eye [...]
The Jezabels // This Sydney four-piece first caught my attention with "Hurt Me" off of their She's So Hard EP back at the end of last year. Check out the official "Easy to Love" video above. They're currently in the midst of writing and recording (stay tuned), in between gigs alongside acts such as Tame Impala , Wolfmother and other oz indie heavy weights. [...]
It's all quick pre-scheduled posts here for the next few days I'm afraid as I'm away from home for work this week. I love all the songs you'll see here though, even if I've not had the time to write a lot about them! The Jezabels are an indie rock type four-piece from Sydney who spent much of May touring Australia in support of Tegan & Sara. I don't know much more about them than that, but their track 'Easy To Love' has copped a serious flogging around my place this weekend, and it's all down to lead [...]

iotah - Foreign Lover Errant leaves scattered clumps of brown on the tar of a quiet road in Siren. Siren, a town of no more than two-hundred inhabitants and, if fortunate, a visitor or two each year, was gifting Autumn its final hurrah, a pat on the back before being gift-wrapped in brown paper with a violet string and sent on its way to college. Winter this year was falling hurriedly on the sloping hills surrounding Siren; hills made not altogether of dust and weeds, but awash with beehives in every rocky alcove, every [...]

I've been hearing a song on triple J a lot lately and there's something deeply catchy and affecting about the piano riff in it. I soon discover it's a song called Hurt Me released on an EP last year by a band who've been unearthed on triple J but have also been making waves across the blogosphere for some time. Always with the missing of good Aussie music, I am! The Jezabels liken themselves to Sarah Blasko, Arcade Fire and Cyndi Lauper, but I think they sound more like PJ Harvey crossed with Yeah Yeah [...]
