Juno award winning country blues singer Jim Byrnes is out with the unexpectedly delightful album of 1960’s country covers, Hear The Wind In The Wires. Teaming-up with longtime producer and multi-instrumentalist and guitar master Steve Dawson, the two spent four days recording on vintage equipment in Vancouver, BC with some of the town’s best session and group players including Geoff Hicks (drums), Chris Gestrin (organ, tack piano, wirlitzer), Mike Sanyshyn (fiddle), John Resichman (mandolin), Rob Becker (bass), and Colleen Rennison (No Sinner) who is featured on the duets "Pickin' Wild Mountain Berries." Their repertoire spans North America, from [...]

Sometimes I feel just like a pilgram. This is Jim Byrnes .
Here are The Wheel’s Still In Spin’s suggested new releases. Jim Byrnes – My Walking Stick. Download “My Walking Stick” (mp3). Douglas Brinkley recently wrote an article in Rolling Stone about Bob Dylan being the last man living in his America, a land of Chuck Berry and Walt Whitman. If that’s the case, Jim Byrnes is the last man living in a similar Canada. Influenced by Gene Autry and Muddy Waters, this Canadian blues musician and actor has released a roots/blues album that may garner him yet another Juno Award. Clues – Clues. Download “Remember Severed Head” (mp3). Download “Perfect [...]
Jim Byrnes new album My Walking Stick was just released this week. While other singers are quick to capitalize on any previous claims to fame, the press release for this album doesn't even mention Byrnes' acting career. I personally know him best as watcher Joe Dawson on Highlander the Series (my biggest guilty pleasure), but the general public may remember him better for his role on Wiseguy . Byrnes obviously considers himself a singer and musician first, an actor second. It's easy to understand why when you listen to his music. [...]

So I haven't done a "New on the 'Nets" post in a while, but I did post some recommendations on Thursday already...so, this may be a condensed version. So in order to fill out the post, a Saturday Playlist is in order!! Couple of items that I need to recommend: Daytrotter posted their J. Tillman session from SXSW . Very Nice - go sign up and pick up the 4 tracks! Laundromatinee has their Great Lake Swimmers session posted as well. Hit them up for some of the video [...]

jim byrnes looks like he knows something we dont, and he may or may not be a prick about sharing this "something" with the rest of us. i just get that feeling by looking at his pic, but listening to his music give off another vibe all together. here's a man that i am positive has got more than a few stories to tell. i am currently downloading the record, legally mind you, and will report back with findings. but dig into this until then. "walk on boy" is the lead track from his 5.12 release, my walking stick [...]
