Lexapalooza is a charity all-dayer in aid of Breast Cancer Care and those lucky enough to be in the UK (or elsewhere if you fancy a flight, I guess), might want to get down there this coming Sunday. The event was the brainchild of Alexa 'Lexi' Burrows - a fundraiser for the aforementioned charity - who, unfortunately, lost her battle with breast cancer in 2007. Lexi's friends have organised the Lexapalooza event since then and have raised a lot of money for Breast Cancer Care in the process. If this sounds familiar to you, it might be because [...]
I'll be seeing Frank Turner very early Friday morning in Denver which I am genuinely excited about. But, later that night this is happening in Austin. That's right, Texas. There was a time when I never thought I'd see Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun in the United States, let alone on tour here. That's right, Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun, and Glossary will be celebrating ten years of Xtra Mile Recordings (official favorite record label) with a SXSW showcase. [...]

"England's Dead" from Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun "Sparks" from 3421 "Take Me To The Mountain" from Great Peacock "Borrowed Time" from Parquet Courts "I like it small" from [...]

Jim Lockey at The Castle Hotel, Manchester (12/02/13) © 2013 Hannah Neild Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun are quickly becoming one of the hottest properties in the UK and if, their albums, 'Atlases' and 'Death' didn't convince you of that then their live show will. Having seen them multiple times already this year, I can tell you it never gets old and that these guys are destined for bigger venues than the back rooms of pubs and dark converted cellars. Though they were last performing in front of thousands every night on tour [...]

As I've mentioned on many occasions, I keep a running playlist throughout the year. You've seen bits and pieces of it here but as 2012 comes to a close, here is the final product. Full of the singles that I listened to on repeat to the tracks I put on every mixtape this year and now with the added bonus of being influenced by the year end lists of my friends and contemporaries. It's all over the place genre-wise, but I think it is a pretty solid collection. Amanda Palmer - [...]
Instead of just presenting our favorites, as much as we love to rattle on about the songs and records we loved here, we've asked some experts- people we have befriended in the process, those we admire and respect, our favorite musicians- what records they loved in 2012. FRANK TURNER : JIM LOCKEY & THE SOLEMN SUN - DEATH Frank Turner is a folk punk hero. If you're reading this, you've probably heard of him. He is pretty much our favorite musician and [...]
So it's that time of year again. No, I'm not referring to Christmas decor, but to the season where bloggers pick the best and brightest of the year and put them into a list. 2012 has been a great year for music and an equally wonderful year for The Ruckus. The incomparable Barlow joined our ranks as we crossed city, state, and country lines to bring you the music we love. 2012 has been exciting and unbelievable as is usual in the Ruckus world and we look forward to telling you our favorite bits over the next month. [...]

Here's a lovely video (from the one and only Greg Nolan ) of Jim Lockey and Frank Turner performing my favorite track from one of my favorite albums of the year. Does it get any better than this? Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun are currently on tour with Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls. You should go. I wish I could and am painfully jealous.

Last weekend was spent exploring the south rim of the Grand Canyon. It was an experience . This mixtape came about when on the last night, I hiked about a mile down the canyon with some friends to watch the sun set from a different vantage point. We agreed to take some time to listen to music and enjoy the view. Lissie and I both chose Josh Ritter's "Lark" in a moment of musical perfection. These songs capture the awakening, the astonishment, and the insignificance I felt throughout the trip and I'm just as excited to share them as [...]

Throughout the year, I keep a running playlist on my iPod with my favorite songs. Back in June we did a half way list , but lately I've been making amendments to my choices. And, since we just happened to have passed the 3/4 mark of 2012, it was a good excuse for a post. Apologies, I Have None - 60 Miles Apologies, I Have None - 60 Miles This one came to me from Barlow, who I immediately messaged to get the name of the band [...]

As mentioned in our first "Best of 2012 So Far" post here , picking and choosing a list is a difficult task. There is always crying and self doubt and hours of rethinking involved in making Best Of lists and this was no exception. However, these are the albums we've been listening to start to finish from the first half of 2012. Apologies, I Have None - London Apologies, I Have None - Clapton Pond [...]

2012 has been nothing if not an awesome year for music. The awesome releases will have to taper off eventually because I'm already overwhelmed. We easily started off with a playlist twice this size before narrowing it down to ten tracks a piece. Apologies, I Have None - 60 Miles Audra Mae - The Real Thing Best Coast - The Only Place Chris Stowe - Sometimes They Give Us Beer For Free [...]

This record was released a week ago, but I needed some more time with it before writing a review. Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun ’s Death was my most anticipated album of 2012. I probably had plays in the triple digits for the three advance tracks (“Wishing Well”, “Warriors”, and “A Song About Death”). I’m so glad to have another brilliant eight tracks to round out the story. From the twenty seconds of mayhem that is “Sail Me Down the River” to the sprawling anthem “Home/Hospitals”, my current favorite track. [...]

Being the editor of a UK music blog, it seemed only fitting that my first night would end at the British Music Embassy’s home for SXSW , at Latitude 30 on San Jacinto Boulevard. To be quite honest, I was planning on an as stress free as possible first night, and when we were having a walk around, I flipped through my book to see with some shock that Frank Turner was playing a showcase there that very night. I expected to completely miss Frank in Austin, [...]

09 As I currently reside in Colorado and have for some time now, I've always felt a bit of kinship with this song. It's a brilliant song from a brilliant album by one of my favorite bands. Then another band I'm crazy about covers it. Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun has been likened to Bright Eyes so it's especially apt. Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun - Landlocked Blues Bright Eyes - Landlocked Blues Thanks [...]

I've fallen in love with Jim Lockey & the Solemn Sun via YouTube clips and a track on bandcamp. Such is the tragedy of living on the wrong continent for all of these indie British acts I am exposed to via the internet. They have an album coming up through Xtra Mile which I cannot wait to get my hands on. Today this track surfaced and I've got it on repeat. "Warriors" is brilliant. Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun - Warriors Download it [...]
